  • @Wiiviewsowner Haha... Thank you! This is an old video now but it was one of my favorites to make.

  • watching this video makes me really enjoy my msr. Peace

  • I just bought one and got 8 extra batteries so all together i got 10 batteries

  • Hey how r u getting thiskindof flight time while outside when igot full throttle outside i get about 58 seconds.

  • @wildcatfan42 There is something wrong with your batteries or heli. You should get a bare min of 3 min even at full throttle to fly in the wind.

  • God Damn great flying Mr 510 sir!!

  • @1521joe Wow thanks!

  • @HeliDragon510

NO- I thankyou for a great dispaly in flying skill

Many kind regards MR 510 sir.

    keep up the good work

    salute:

  • If you could respond to this that would be nice. Where did you get that radio and how much was it?

  • @yamaha212121 The Spektrum DX6i us probably one of the most common 2.4Ghz radios on the market today. If you ate in the Unites States I recommend A-Main Hobbies. Youtube will not let me post links so you can do a google search for it. The brand is Spektrum, I use them for my cars as well as aircraft and they have all been rock solid. The DX6i is about $150 US, radio only, or about $199 US for the radio and a full range receiver. Good luck...

  • Does anyone know how to put the msr in performance mode with the ready to fly radio? is it possible?

  • @bmanfactor705 I also want to know this. I want to buy this for Christmas, but not if it's going to fly just like my mCX without getting an expensive controller.

  • @bmanfactor705 @bushpilot223 Hey folks the information you are looking for is found in the users manual and it is possible to do high rates on the RTF version of the heli. Youtube will not let me post links in the comments. But just go to Google and search for "Blade msr manual" without quotes and the first link should be a PDF of the users manual. On Page 27 of the paper manual (page 14 of the PDF) you will see information on how to access dual rates. The new SR is even more fun doing this too!

  • hey cameraman .... your mouth is right in the camera mic .... stop talking and making so much unnecessary noise an let the subject to the talking . Your too loud, and yet we can hardly hear him ..

  • Get a new camera man.

  • Let me tell you all something, I first flew this today, and I started in easy easy mode, low rate, normal swash. Then I went to full rate, easy swash, not much diff, then I went to hard swash, full rate. Still, it seemed weak. I kept thinking, I wasted my money... Then on a whim I switched my mode switch on my Dx5 from 1 (the good one for my p51), to 0... and I nearly swallowed my gum cuz the thing went from slug to peregrine falcon in a half second. I can't stop flying it now!

    GREAT HELI!

  • @D3mang3l Yeah one thing I always tell people above all else with this little FP Heli, make sure your swash is always level with the included tool and when your ready you can actually make it pretty responsive. Glad you like it. I still fly mine and have had it since they came out, no mechanical failures at all.

  • @D3mang3l ... said, ... Then on a whim I switched my mode switch on my Dx5 from 1 (the good one for my p51), to 0... ..... what are you talking about ? There is NO Mode 1 and Mode 0 on the DX5 ???

  • @RexxWayne

There is on mine. Top left switch.

  • @D3mang3l .... The Spektrum Dx5e 5 channel radio on Mode 2, has two switches on the top left area, ... The Trainer Switch, and the Channel 5 Switch ... that's all .. There is NO "mode switch" ... Do you even own a Dx5e and an MSR ?

  • @RexxWayne Just because I forget what the switch was called you have to accuse me of somehow lying? Meanwhile everyone else who has the same set up as me and responded to my comment understood what I meant? Yes I was wrong to call it a mode switch, but on another of mine that IS a mode switch. So I just made a minor error calling it something it's not. EXCUUUUUuuusssSE ME....

  • @D3mang3l

God Damn smart asses, comming here to correct anything and everything.

    Damn it!!

  • I like this video. great shooting.

  • By NOT reading the manual, you are missing out on some extreme advanced settings!!! You can swap the linkages from the swash plate short balls to the long balls and it gives the swash plate MUCH more throw and thus, extreme twitchy and VERY responsive / FAST Heli!!! Forward/Back, Left/Right speed will almost double. READ your manual!!! Manuals are NOT for dummies in this case!

  • Just a tip.I noticed you plugged in the lipo and tried to set it down real quick before it initiallized.I usually leave it sitting and plug the lipo before I put it in the frame. After the light goes solid,I pick it up and put the lipo in the frame.Just my way....Nice video by the way.Fun stuff.

  • Pt2: The Helo itself also has a 'Performance' mode wherby you can move the control linkages on the Swash to a second set of ball-joints - they are 90deg to the ones that the control linkeages are hooked up to ex-factory, and the ball-joint's shafts are longer. This creates more throw from the Swash to the main rotor in both the Thurst and Bank directions, making for a wild old ride....LoL

    Q:)

  • Er... I think the 'Performance' mode you are talking about here is the high/low rate you can apply via the Tx that comes with the RTF version - if you press the right stick in, you'll hear a beep and the on/off LED flashes - that means low rate is being used (if you push the left stick in on power-up, it sets the Tx to bind mode). Switching the Tx to low rate screws the trims up a bit, but nothing that can't be fixed by re-trimming the Tx.

    Q:)

  • you can make it roll

  • Quick little bird. I have the same one but stock radio and the right cyclic tells the mode if it's low/high.

  • great vid guys!!!!

  • upgraded main shaft, blade grips, swashplate, anti rotation collar to cnc ali.. helis not as stable and getting a slight "toilet bowl effect". ive gauged the swashplate with the tool you get with the heli and fitted correctly and set up fine.. i guess its the added weight and now there is no flex whatsoever, i will try what you suggested and try just the blade grips. The damn lil thing looks awesome but doesnt perform as well as a total stock msr. thought id give it a go anyway.

  • @budjulica Yeah, you're gonna lose performance by adding CNC to any microheli, especially if it's in the rotor system, It's the added weight. It slows the hel,i and in the rotor system it adds TBE.

When upgrading to CNC it only makes sense to upgrade the parts that break often or are likely to break. On the mSR that's only the blade grips, and maybe the flybar, which wears out or breaks easily (or so I've heard).

I only got CNC blade grips, but I'm using the stock ones until they break.

  • Hey who ever posted the video response of the mCX and the mSR can you please post it again? I deleted the approval notice thing by accident and can't get it back. Thank you!

  • i got this heli so I can learn for something like a t-rex 450 but this one doesn't break and shatter to pieces so I can take chances with it to really get the feel of a single rotor heli. I can't wait til these damn blizzards pass so I can fly mine outside finally.

  • As the owner of a TREX 450 & TREX 250 I can say they are still very different to fly, but it still teaches you orientation, yaw, roll & elevator. When you go to (or back to) collective pitch you will have an advantage for sure. Also make sure to pick up at least RealFlight Basic for $99 or the new version 5 for $199. I personally think thats even more of a help than the mSR. Good luck!

  • hey i recently got my msr im kinda a beginner and from 1 day of flying macx i think im alright but im good now is there just a switch somewhere on the heli?

  • Did you get the RTF version? There is something you have to do with the transmitter it comes with. You like push one of the sticks down when you turn it on or something. Its actually covered in the manual how to do it. As a beginner though I would suggest leaving it stock for a few weeks.Congrats on the move to single blade. I have hundreds of flights on my mSR and never had a mechanical failure.

  • love these,i bought a solo pro 2 couple months ago and its ok but when i got the msr last week i cant stop flying it,also noticed that you can hover very low without lots of down wash its so stable for its size, thinking about getting the cnc aluminium rotor head upgrade.

  • Personally I would just get the metal blade grips and leave the rest stock., Every gram counts on the mSR and the aluminum adds some grams. But the metal grips should improve one of the weakest points of the head more than anything else.

  • i crashed my msr into a pond went 4 feet under water came out and flew it 10 min later awesome little gagit

  • cool vid

  • Great video guys! I got one for Christmas and like you I LOVE this copter. This lil guy can burn th skys! Im guessing "Performance Mode" is High Rate mode?

  • their are settings on the inner swashplate that makes it even more agressive

  • thank you

  • do u know if the blade cx2 trainsmitter will bind with the msr

  • raymansmilel... Yes it will. I have a crash of my mSR on here and I am using my CX2 transmitter

  • What a great vid, guys!!

    Great camerawork...

This tiny heli is freakin' nuts!! I've never seen a micro fp heli like this one!!

  • E-Flight did a great job, my camera guy is happy to get so many kudos. Thanks much.

  • hey dude I watched this vid and you haven't even touched the advanced tune on your swash plate yet in this video. I have this unit and i'm in love. I also have the cx this msr is the goods hands down enjoy more E-flight

  • I did eventually move to the advanced swash as well. She is a little screamer for an FP.

  • Your cameraman did a GREAT job filming this little speed demon! The dragonfly chasing it was cool. I have had hawks chase my planes before too. I have got to get one of these.

  • I let him know he got some kudos. Yikes, I can only imagine getting chased by birds.

  • lol lets see a loop!

  • Hard to believe this was over 2 months ago. I have learned so much since that day. It is technically possible to do a loop on a fixed pitch heli, and I actually have tried it with this little mSR, but it always results in a loss of LOOOOTS of altitude, and often times, a smash into the ground. Thanks for the comment.

  • lol tru. i dont think ive ever seen one with a fp heli before!

  • Hey...very nice video! I've just adjusted my swashplate to the longer ones. I got a DX6i also - could you tell me how you enabled the "5th channel" thing you mentioned? Is it just in the Travel Adjust menu? Cause it looks like its 100% by default on the DX6i.

  • In this video I literally was discovering it for the first time. I intentionally waited to fiddle with it till we got to the park. A way to test is to move your aileron all the way over, then flip the gear switch and you will see the servo that does aileron move a little further. Thats it. Please reply here and let me know if it worked. Oh and make sure you bind the mSR as a plane and not a helicopter, this is per the manual. Good luck...

  • I just got one of these yesterday.

    Is that Lake Elizabeth/Central Park?

  • Never heard it called Central Park but yes Lake Elizabeth in Fremont, CA. Thanks for the comment.

  • WTF was the bug at 4:33 :-/

  • It was a dragon fly. They did that so much eventually I made another video.

  • if you wanna put it in performance mode then you need to move the swash links on the ball links to the longer ones

if you look on the upper part of the swash head you will see 4 control ball links and you will see the 2 without any links are longer, you simply swap the ball links to the longer set

you need to still have the transmitter on high rates too then viola! you are on the 4th or highest rate possible, it will really shift the speed and go like stink :D

  • camera guy needs to speak up, can't hear a thing he's saying

  • I will make sure to bump his volume next time he records for me. Actually it was my fault. I leave the mic sensitivity a little high on my camcorder but if your right next to it and talk, its BLARING.

  • Awsome, simply awsome. Just ordered mine.

  • Saweet. Get some extra blade grips along with a feathering shaft kit. It will come with the extra copper shims that you will loose if your blade grips come apart. That was the first thing that happened to mine after many many crashes. I am still using the blades it came with. Hope you have as much fun tiny flying as I have with mine.

  • LOLZ,

Got mine yesterday, flew loads of batts, then boom my blade grips came apart. They seem to be quite weak along the mould line up to the screw holes. By some miracle I didn't lose the small shims either. Still flying it with the damaged balde grips at the moment although i've removed the shims for safe keeping, the handling doesn't seem to be affected, tho the blade tracking is out slightly.

  • Yeah I flew with only one shim when mie came apart. Snag a couple sets of grips as soon as you can and put them back in. It flies better with them in. Smoother. Congrats on your mSR. Fun fun HELI!

  • Oh that should help. I know this thing has WAY too much aileron for some reason I will give it a shot. I have been just pointing it into the wind and pumping the throttle till she tilts forward and off we go! Hmm I bet I could go into the wind easier if I get her going at a 45 degree angle first to use some of that aileron to help. Thank you!

  • Hey man, just followed your link from HF. If you're having troubles in the wind, give it a little lateral cyclic and kick the tail in... this gives it enough to kick the flybar over... you can challenge the wind all day this way! :)

  • Nice vid well done!!

You gotta say E-flite kick ass in the heli department!

I think our shop in the UK will be ordering some of those!!!

  • Greetings from across the pond. Yeah I am a Horizon Hobby nut! I am a big fan of E-Flight and Parkzone (Don't own any parkzone yet, but want to get a T28D Torjan foam. Love Bind N Fly and Spektrum! While the mSR is not perfect, it is an awesome super tiny heli. Thanks for the comment.

  • have you tried setting the D/R & EXP settings?

set the AILE and ELEV to -100%

you need to set the D/R to about 90% when you have the EXP maxxed out so the servos dont try to travel too far.

you can also assign this mode to one of the flight mode switches so you can toggle back and forth. it makes it super responsive!

  • Oh thanks for the tip. I will definately try that!

  • Hi, will a dx5e work on this heli, if so, what will the high rate & low rate do on this heli, and will the dx5e work ok, only i have used it as a airplane tx for a while.

    Thanks

    Great video---5star

  • I double checked the manual and the DX5e is specifically listed as a supported "Bind N Fly" DSM2 radio... Thanks so much for the kind words and the rating. Its a super fun little heli.

  • dx5e will work, the rate switch just adjusts the "aileron" and "elevator" throws, the "Ch. 5" switch adjusts the rates at the receiver end. So, you basically have 4 settings.

  • Hi, can i use the dx5e with this heli

  • Set mine up in HELI mode on my DX7, "Performance Mode" is by my Idle1 switch.

  • Hey thanks for the feedback. Was not too sure about the DX7.

  • Stop it! you are making me one one sooo badly....

5 stars great review and flight!

  • Thank you so much! So you get one yet?!

  • Tried the gear switch and no change. Is there a gear setting in the DX6i? Couldn't find one.

I hear you can adjust the mixer too but don't know how. It seems that the rudder control moves the cyclic as well. I found that drifts a little if you only rudder, so I'll bet this is why the have the mixing going on.

  • If you start a new model as an airplane (Acro) and then bind it, all default settings are fine. I think it HAS to be Acro to work. In the manual it says to bind it as a plane.

Mixing is built in to the yaw after you bind it as a plane. I literally discovered all this in the video.. Well, after reading the forums... and not the manual. Good luck

  • Indeed! In heli mode, it's full throw. In plane mode, the gear switch does indeed change the servo throw. I'm still looking for the servo mix control. In both modes the rudder stills mixes to the elevator and aileron servos. This thing is tough too. Flying in a tight space so when it gets going fast, you have to know just when to reverse before you hit a wall.

Way cool fun! Now when will they come out with a CP model that is as stable?

  • I think CP us just the way it is. You can tame a CP a bit by adding weight to your flybar. I mean you see the phatty flybar paddles that the mSR has. Keep a close eye on the HeliFreak forums. There are dudes in there modifying the mSR to actually make it less stable, but the trade off is more manuverability. But honestly with the high stick rate mode and advanced swash combination, she is a fine micro bird for me.

  • Comment removed

  • I was telling many of my big heli friends about how fast this thing is.. You guys did a good job of showing that!! My 400 has been in neglect since I brought my little heli out!! Again, great job!

  • Hah, I did the same thing. Didn't fly my TREX for almost a week, and then when I finally got back to it, I had some trouble controlling it till my second pack. First pack is always a warmup for me anyway. You are very welcome and thanks so much for the positive feedback. I want to post another vid in a few weeks. I am already a bit better at flying it than I was when I posted this vid. I am convinced that I can get some funnels in with this thing with enough practice.

  • Great video.. I love how much you and your buddy are enjoying the heli..

You mention setting the timer.. What batteries are you running and for how long?

  • Yeah it may not always look it in the video but in person the thing can move scary fast for being so tiny. We had a blast.

I have a timer on my DX6i transmitter. When flying in "perfroemance mode" I get just over 5 minutes. using so much forward elevator you use way more throttle meaning tail fan pwr as well. In the stock stick rate mode I would get just over 6min, or maybe 7 if I just gently hover in place. Just using the 120mAh batts it came with. Want to get 2 more. Thanks!

  • Hey thanks for the reply.

I notice with this heli it's very hard to feel when the battery gets "low" ..

So i've been running the bats until the LED blinks.. The manual says that is bad..

Should I care? Do you run it until the led blinks?

  • With big Heli's like my TREX 450 its best not to run the batteries past 80 percent discharge at the VERY most. But those batteries also cost $70+ dollars. THe batt's for the mSR are about $10 or less in a hobby shop.

But yes its hard on the batteries. After about 50 flights you may notice reduced flight times and may need new batts. You can nearly double their charge-cycle life by using a timer and stop flying a min before you would normally get the blinking LED. 5 min is good.

  • Ok, Thanks a lot for the advice.

  • Any time.

  • Not sure if you knew this or not, but if you move the links to the outer balls on the swash plate you will now be in advanced mode which gives even more cyclic response.

  • Thanks for the comment. Yeah we covered it a few times in these very comments. I actually finally broke down and tried it yesterday in the early afternoon, the thing really books! And if you want a bit more maneuverability than stock, but still want more than stock, just flip the Gear switch back to 0 and its a little more time while still on the long balls. Flies a tiny bit more like my TREX on the long ball links too.

  • what settings did you make to the radio to put it into the performance mode?

  • Its all in the video. I just moved the switch on my DX6i from 0 to 1 that is called Gear/F Mode and thats is. OK well not AAAALLLL in the video, but most of it. Just makes the servos move a little further.

  • ya i noticed after i posted the question.. i also found your posts on helifreak. stick rates. i'll have ot try it when i get my dx7

  • Hey cool man. Have fun and good luck.

  • im assuming you already know this, but just in case, you know you can also change the linkage on the swashplate to the "aggressive" setting too right?

So that plus the performance mode should be rediculous... i am not quite good enough for all that yet though

  • Yeah covered in some of the comments above. The high stick rate is PLENTY for me right now. Ill move to the outer balls on the swash as soon as I think I want/can handle more performance. Thanks for the comment!

  • Thanks for the radio suggestion! I will certainly get the DX6i, because I don't want to get too far ahead of myself both skill and money-wise. They run like $150 at my local hobby shop. Almost like getting another ultra micro heli, but it seems more than worth the extra dough.

  • For the money I don't think you can get a better radio. I don't honestly see myself needing more than 6 channels for the life of this radio. Have fun out there!

  • How did you set up your radio? Do you have it set on plane or heli? I saw somewhere that says to set it on the plane mode. I also don't see a difference with the gear switch in either position.

  • Nice flying....... this thing goes really fast! And nice sunset too... congratulations.

  • Thanks it was a decent day for flying for sure. Wind was a factor but it was not too bad. Still learning here so I was hoping to do better, but still happy with how the vid came out.

  • oh damn thats incredible! make sure you show the guys at the club!

    Is that Lake Elizabeth?

  • I did show the guys and they are blown away. Yeah thats Lake Elizabeth. I found a quiet place to fly my TREX there too but Victor says they will confiscate it if I fly it there. I will ask the main office what their policy is.

  • LOL! you guys should try doing a backflip with that beast~!

  • Sadly I don't think it can be done with a fixed pitch heli. I have heard a rumor that it CAN be done but never seen it.

  • well it looks like it can be done since u took a nose dive when u did ''full forward'' cyclic haha

  • Oh man thats my special move! Yeah to make it go really FAST you gotta add a LOT of throttle while pushing hard on forward elevator. But because its so light it does not always respond the same way. It takes a lot of getting used to ether way, coming "up" from a co-ax or coming "down" from something like my TREX. I do plan on trying to get it to do a loop, but I am waiting for a VERY still day and would prefer to try it while on camera. I don't think it can be done though.

  • hmmm when it goes into performance mode does the heli have full cyclic? or does it just have a bit more cyclic thannormal mode?

  • You basically get 15% more travel on the odd little servos that are built onto the main board. I am told the main board is very similar to an mCX. I don't have one to compare, but basically the servos just move a little further. Amazing what a small amount of extra movement on the swash actually makes.

  • The Novus I have is the CX or coaxial version, and so it might have the reflexes of a TREX, but can't do all that cool 3D CP stuff. I eventually will either get the Novus FP or maybe even this awesome mSR. But first thing is first, I need a radio that has a timer and at least 4 aircraft memory capability. I am seriously considering the Spektrum DX6i or DX7s.

  • If you evert plan on moving up to something like a TREX I can strongly recommend the DX6i. If you ever plan on flying scale, you could get a DX7 and have a spare channel for something like landing gear retract or something. The future is DSM2 IMO. I love my DX6i. 10 aircraft memory and you can make copies of aircraft in other slots and use them like backups.

  • Super awesome flights! Man... I am still glad I got my Novus CX, but this is really a whole other ballgame with it being a single rotor rocket! Btw.. brandn14; this heli doesn't do any 3D or barrel rolls because it is a fixed pitch heli and not a collective pitch.

  • The Novus looks awesome. I wanted to get one but decided to wait till this came out. Does the Novus fly like a TREX? The mSR almost makes me feel like a pro!

  • Thanks so much for posting this! This is the first video I've seen to finally show off it's true performance. E-flite why didn't you do this??!?!

It looks so much fun! I'm going to take mine to the park now too lol. Please please please post a video with it doing a barrel roll. It's going to be so awesome X_X !!!!!!!!!!! Thanks so much guys! Beautiful video.

  • Thanks for the comment. I was hoping to post this before anyone else.

  • hey wheres the swarm of dragonflies only saw one

uv got a good camera guy and able to keep up as that thing is FAST!

  • THanks I will let him know. He doesn't think that he did a good job. I believe there are 2 in this video and the rest are in my other vid of the Blade. THanks.

  • Sorry, I meant I was trying to get her to do a Loop not a roll. Also I find sometimes the rudder looses it on hard turns or tight banks......had a crash today & my blade grips came apart from the shaft & list the brass washers on the center spindle. Put it back together & she runs fine .....I'll be posting some vids soon too. Looking forward to your next video. !!......

  • Thanks. A loop is supposedly possible with a Fixed Pitch heli. You may be able to take it way up high get it going as fast asyou can and bring it down about half way so you have some fudge room. Pull all the way back on elevator, if you can get the msr pointes straight up, full throttle and she may tip back on you, resulting in a quick ugly loop. I have a bunch of rather boring TREX hovering videos I need to post, but may be able to record some more MSR fun this weekend. Thanks again & have fun!

  • Lol yes you're right she does move eh?!! I got mine on Wednesday & have tried it on the long arms of the awashplate & it does move faster but I like the agility you get!! Nice to be able to kick the right stick back hard before hitting a wall. Lol I was trying to get her to do a roll, I get to the top of the circle & she runs out. Any ideas?

  • Hey thanks so much for the kind words! I do plan on moving to the longer arms, but I am going to wait till I am really good at it and want more speed. For now it is plenty fast enough for me. Got to fly it 6 times today in rather heavy wind. At one point someone was flying a kite behind me. But my last 2 pack there was very little wind though. WHEEEE ZOOOOM SWWOOOOSH!

  • AWESOME VIDEO!!!!! If you haven't yet, move the control links on the swashplate to the balls with the longer arms...... It'll go Supersonic!!!!! Crazy Fast!!
