i rode in th back of a many a dc9-50 back in the 80's and the engines always seemed to make the pulsating noise when taking off and crusing and when the pilot would reduce thrust it was a really neat pulsating sound. i think it is beacuse the rpm of the 2 engines isnt exactly equal and thats what causes the sound.

@eltfell It's interference, but not in the traditional sense...the mic gain is too high, so it sounds like the engine noise is overdriving the mic.

Very good sound recording. This is the way we remember it sounded.
The same engines on Caravelles were even louder. I guess it must be gear vibrations transmitting thru the metal structure.
