Yes, but as we all know it takes more than talent to make it in the nfl. It also helps being in the right scheme. Ex., in the '89 draft, GB Coach Lindy Infante, really wanted Barry Sanders. Not only cos he was a once in a decade rb, but also cos he would've fit his offensive scheme MUCH better than Darrell Thompson & Brent Fullwood did. As we all know, GM Tom Braatz chose a OT who couldn't pass block, who was on roids & who was a headcase instead......
.............Of course it was because of that huge blunder & a bad team that Braatz & Infante were fired after the '91 season (Braatz was fired w/a few games left in the season) & Bob Harlan hired ron Wolf who hired Mike Holmgren & then traded a 1st round pick for Favre & then signed White, Sean Jones, etc.....
/It's too bad Wolf was a failure @ drafting in the 1st round during his stay in GB.
//Still can't believe Holmgren traded Green for CB/Fred Vinson....every great rb fumbles.
the only thing that confuses me is why he was picked up in the 3rd round. I'd would have had him as a top 10 pick. Shit if in these days and ages he'd definatly been a top 10 pick
Neb. (& option backs) had had a long history of great backs being busts in the nfl (mike rozier, jarvis redwine, lawrence phillips, johnny rodgers, i.m. hipp, calvin jones, etc...), just like wr's from florida & rb's from penn. st. Scouts also thought that Green was more of a "straight-ahead" runner, in the mold of LeShon Johnson & Darrell Thompson, who were also great college rb's but busts in the nfl. That's why Green fell in the draft even though he had sub 4.3 speed, etc...
Green was a beast in his hay day when favre was still with the team. I remember him running around, over, under, through people. He really used to be special.
@Apocalypz26 I played with him (or against him, I was on defense) He was probably the best......his only problem was he played at the same time with 3 other I-backs that probably could have started anywhere in D-IA......Damon Benning, Jay Sims, Lawrence Philips, Corell Buckhalter.....plus Tommie Frazier's running game......and great fullbacks Cory Schlesenger and Joel Mackovica.......
This guy ran with reckless abandon strong upper body strong lower body great balance what was seattle thinking would u rather have him or alexander? ok I gotta give alexander credit he wasnt bad either everybody hates a running back that fumbles but when you play like he did it's hard not to look a peterson his never quit power additude puts out fumbles
I love his no BS style of running. Head to the line where the hole should be, keep it straight or make one cut and just go. Perfect angles, no wasted movement, no loss of momentum and already trucking at the point where the linebackers hope to meet him.
ahman is great and will be a huge threat to the opposing teams and that's for sure. but the question is, can the Packers O-line do what they did for him in 2003? although they have both of their offensive tackles back, the inside will be a weak spot.
Not unless they bring back Mike Wahle, Marco Rivera, and Mike Flanagan he won't. The Packers O-Line is atrocious, but the real thing that is killing the running game is that stupid zone blocking scheme. The Packers need to go back to the Power-O style of rushing.
true that! they already have tauscher back. They just need those other lineman back. Just imagine Aaron Rodgers with the receivers he has and an amazing line. FRANCHISE QUARTERBACK!
He needs 46 yards to become all time leading rusher in Packer history. This pickup for the Pack should be very helpful going into the second half of the season.
The Nebraska I-backs are the best ever in college football. . . . . . Roger Craig, Tom Rathman, Mike Rozier, Lawrence Phillips, Ahman Green and so forth.
I know he was a trouble-maker, But the NFL labeled him a NFL (the only reason)...thats how I leraned about him and i googled him before i never heard of him, and i was impressed and watched his highlights from Nebraska....i was like DAMN
in my opinion lawrence phillips was better than ahman green. he had better agility. but green had a better NFL career. but it dont matter for me cuz phillips was better in college
Damn the F'N sucks I hope he's a Packer again insted of that Greedy bitch Ryan Grant who wanted more money and did not do shit for Green bay this year with only 3 fucking touchdowns!!!
Ahamn was the best running back we had ever yes even better than Juim taylor Ahman had fumbleing problems but quickly fixed it.
3-4 1000 yard seasons over 50 touchdowns man should got a super bowl in 2003!
I wouldn't say he sucks ass now, he's just beat to shit. He'll still get 4 or 5 yards a pop when he's healthy, but he can't ever manage to stay healthy.
Sucks, too. I think with a couple more 1,000-yard seasons he'd be a legit hall of fame candidate.
damn ahman disappeared of the face of the earth he was one of the top 5 running backs in the nfl when he was with green bay come to think of it there offense was probaly the best in the nfl next to indianapolis during those years they didnt win any championships in those years in my opinion cuz ahman and brett favre would turn the ball over at such costly times and there defense didnt really get a whole lot of turnovers...
yah, they shoulda won a superbowl with ahman, he was a packer great and i will always remember the years he had at GB. i really think brett and him should have won 2 SB's. if you look at numbers, ahman was the league leading rusher over a 5 year period i think but was under the radar cuz of some other guys.
Nah he didn't win one. He was kind of in Ricky Williams' shadow in the Big XII in terms of running backs. Ended up dropping to the third round of the 1998 Draft for whatever unknown reason (had a great career, but I think Lawrence Phillips and the lack of success by NU backs in the recent years affected is stock).
@moffo0101 i am a huge ahman green fan, but im not going to lie to myself, philips WAS better at nebraska than green, not in the pros, but at nebraska
He only played 3 years his 3rd year 1997 heisman went to Charles Woodson. His first year he was backup, second year he was hurt. Maybe if he played his 4th year he would have won it.
Ahman made losing Lawrence Philips easy his freshman season...it wouldve been nice 2 see em play an entire season together...the gators definitely got a taste in the Fiesta Bowl...Geaux Tigers!
Joel Makovicka, one of the greatest fullbacks to ever play at NU. He was drafted in the fourth round of the 1999 draft by the Cardinals and played in Arizona for four years.
I don't think that's his problem. He just can't stay healthy. And he never had more than 5 lost fumbles a year, or 7 total. He had 20 fumbles over his best 5 years (his worst as far as fumbles go). 4 per year isn't awful.
was a stud 4 green bay. still luv him even tho hes with the texans. i hate 2 say it but his football days r fading away. i miss him as a packer. GO PACK!
reggie bush?? adrian peterson?? u serious? yeah yeah they were good...but wouldnt be where they're at today if they didnt have 2 running backs like AHMAN GREEN and LAWERENCE PHILLIPS to watch grow'n up.. now those 2 husker running backs were the TRUE bad boys of running backs...prove me wrong? didnt think so....no one produced backs like NEBRASKA. GO HUSKERS !!!
Comparing this video to Brandon Jackson's video, Ahman Green is a better running back. he's faster, stonger, and bigger. Packers shouldn't have let him go.
I don't know how you can even compare the two. For one, this is a career highlight reel, with Ahman's best runs of his 3-year Nebraska career. B.Jax's highlights are only from his junior year. Also, Ahman was in a different system, with those mid-90s Nebraska O-Lines, which are quite possibly the best that college football has ever seen. B.Jax shared time with 3 other backs behind a decent (at best) offensive line in a West Coast system. We'll see how B.Jax does in Green Bay.
Honestly I don't know much about College Football. You probably have a point but look at how Ahman Green break those tackles and how he make his cuts and how he jukes people. All I see with Brandon Jackson's running is him running through big holes. And when Brandon tries to juke defenders he can't guit do it like Ahman and gets tackled. Also look how Ahman explodes through them holes and out run them defenders. But hey like you said we'll just have to see how Brandon does.

If he would've stayed with Seattle and ran with the best O-line in the league for 10 yrs he would have easily had 13,000 plus yds after watching what a turtltle in Shaun Alxander could do there. Stupid Mike Holmgren, I guess 106 yds on 6 carries isn't good enough for a rookie's first game.
If Green would have played his senoir year he would have torn it up and set a bunch of NCAA records, so its not a fait comparison. He wasn't the athlete taht LP was but he is one of the smartest patient running backs ther are.
I agree, I guess when they at that level it's like apples and oranges.green did have a higher rush average in his junior year than ricky willaims in his senior year.
