I imagine that would've been the best NYE for some people. A chance to forget all of the 9/11 attacks and celebrate the end of such a bad year for the Americans.
@NWRGeek Usually, people would be so happy to say goodbye to a bad year and 9/11 made it so for lots and lots of people. Of course they shouldn't forget the people who died, but I'm sure they'd like to forget about all of the attacks and cries and all of the negatives associated with it, which is probably every bit of 9/11.
Times Sq. felt very different when it turned 2002, no fireworks in Times Sq this time. Respectful. You still had the (still) smoking rubble of WTC a few miles down Broadway
@CottonBelter Yeah, but he's still sharp as a tack. Last night he hit the countdown perfectly. He was still slurring his speech, but he looks the same as he always did and his mind is in tip top shape. God bless him.
yea i remember being at a party in an apartment in Hells Kitchen near Times Square and u can look out and see where the Twin Towers used to stand and when the ball dropped we all just started crying because we lost a lot of people that wasnt there to see this new year and thinking about kids who lost their parents and loved ones i remember a friend wisper to me "WE MADE IT" cuz it could have easily been US in that tower had they attcked 1 more hour later
I remember watching Times Square Drop 2002 while I was living in Japan, i was eating lunch when the ball dropped and my mom was sad because we had to see our nation get attacked on 2001.9.11 when we are so 60,000 miles away:( RIP World Trade Center... but the good thing in 2002 is when I came back to America..
the attack has happened about four months before this, i had a feeling that something was gonna happen in 2001 , some kind of terrorist attack, i just wasent sure when or where.
Class of 02 right here. Can't believe its been eight years already. I still remember sitting in class watching the attacks on TV. We've come a long way, wars not withstanding.
Give New Yorkers credit. They are tough SOBs and still celebrate the promise and hope of a new year. They'd find a way to drop the ball from the Statue of Liberty if it was the only thing they had left to drop it from.
2002 . . . I remember this New Years eve vividly. We went to the "holidome" hotel. They have a special new years eve package and a big carnival type thing. They have several of these hotels across the country. I remember people dropped balloons over the balconies and we did party poppers. Some parts 02 were good and others were bad. I was almost 13 and a major geek going into 8th grade. Also this new years was sad because of the 9-11 tragedies and also my great uncle had just died.
He's the reason it's called Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin Eve! Don't judge him by the way he's feeling now.. He'll count us down to 2010 on Thursday!
to tell you the truth the 2001 was the worst year for every american. This also marks the new beggining in our lifes as americans and it is a beggining to forgetting the sadness and look ahead. This video does bring some tears, because it is just sad to see this and remember it.
I agree and New Years is my birthday I cried when he said that :( But i was living in japan during 9/11 and it hard to see OUR country get attacked by terrorist!
Well, they still had to clean up the mess left from 9/11, some forests had wild fires, and it personally wasn't really pleasant for me because a lot of my family's pets died.
Yeah, the worst thing is now that my great-grandparents are dead now, the house they lived in is going to be sold. I used to go to my great-grandparents house all the time and now, its time to say goodbye to that house. (cries)
i feel the same way dude my grandma has altimerze (sorry if spelled wrong) and he emptied out here house because she cant live there because of her disease and her house is to be solded, i had a lot of great memories there and i dont want it to be sold
Well, my great-grandpa probably died of a stroke. The day before he died, it was said that he had a high fever.
My great-grandma died three weeks after my great-grandpa died because she couldn't live without him so she died and probably she also has natural causes.
Yeah, that's something.. I recorded 2000 because it was Y2K, and 2001 probably because I came in at the later part of the TV-38 Three Stooges Marathon and switched over. After recording so much during the 9/11 period I think I wanted the NYE 2002 as well, shown here.
The only chance that I have any that follow are if they are in any 3-Stooges Marathon tapes. Several are recorded; none I've reviewed yet.

If you ask me, that's exactly what he's been doing! I mean, if he wasn't, he wouldn't continue to do New Years Rockin Eve after his stroke!
God Bless you, Dick Clark!
and in all honesty, I don't know why people are saying they can no longer remember him as "America's Oldest Teenager."
As far as I know, no teenager has had a stroke. but, Dick's still going strong after his!
In short, we can remember Dick anyway we wish, even if he's not exactly the same! He's still Dick Clark!
DorvellTStewart 2 years ago 4
I think that the reason Dick Clark chose to host the show indoors is probably b/c he can't stand cold weather when he's getting up in age.
Some people whether they're young or old can't stand cold weather and I don't blame them and I can't say as I blame Mr. Clark.
