Brilliant vlog thank you so much... Now I can actually go out and get my light. Can I use the Halogen white light? If so would you suggest that I buy them separate and then place them or could I buy the twin head on stand and then direct them? Let me know what you suggest. I look forward to your response.
I'm starting to think it's actually a pasta strainer, a really, really old pasta strainer.
I picked it up at a thrift store, it was the only thing the right size/shape, and best of all, its metal, so i can have it right on those halogens without worrying about any plastic melting.
Even if your bowl is plastic, the foil should reflect most of that heat away, so it shouldn't be a problem.
Haha I use those same halogen lights on a bunch of my shoots. One tip: step away from the wall and you'll get rid of those nasty shadows. Also I like to cover my lights in some sort of diffusion. My favorite low budget diff is Parchment Paper. It's used for cooking so it can withstand heat. Nice vid man.
The room where I shot this is only about 8 feet wide, so i can't really step away from the wall without stepping too close to the light.
Diffusion will be the topic of a future video. Good call on parchment. That stuff is hard to burn. I use paper over my camera flash, never would have thought to do the same over my halogens. using parchment for that never occurred to me. I use a foil covered salad bowl, sort of a DIY ring light. paper would have been much easier/

I like the salad bowl idea. I never thought of that. I'm going to give that a try some time. Thanks.
