i've read a lot of negetive comments about the serpa...however...i carry the level 3 serpa as my duty holster and i must say that it is a excellent product. well made, fast draw, and holds up well during weapon-retention training. its also nice because it locks in as soons as it is re-holstered. with the safariland, you have to rock the hood back to retain it once holstered. safariland does make a quality product, but i think the serpa "makes more sense" in its retention characteristics
the hood is the SLS and that little piece is a lock that locks the hood(SLS) the ALS is the mechanism that is just under the hood release and you release the hood and then release the ALS...which locks the ejection port of the pistol...you have the ALS with a level III and IV.
would these be okay for open carry because in ohio you can open carry at 18 but can't conceal until you are 21 so I will probably open carry for three years
Yeah they're a good choice. Just remember though, that you won't always want people knowing you have a gun on you, depending on the situation you're in, so just be careful when you choose to do so.
so with the top hood down on the safariland, how is the retention on the gun? I'm looking to a range/competion speed holster with Minimal retention. Just slips in and out easiy, then close the hood when all done. Is that kinda how this holster would work? My serpa just doesnt' fit my index finger well and scratches up my slide too
seriously thinking of selling my fnp-45 to get a glock 21. I like the grips alot better on the glocks, dont get me wrong i like the fnp-45, but the grips are just so aggressive.
I heard the Black Hawk Serpa scratches the slide. I have Blackhawk nylon inside the waste holster i picked up for $15. Do you notice if the serpa scratches up the slide?
blackhawk improperly indexes your finger inside the trigger guard upon extraction. Get a safariland als holster. They are suede lined to protect guns finishes. Blackhawks do not.
The Blackhawk holster i have is inside the wasteband. It is just a simple cheap holster but the inside is not hard like the serpa. The inside the wasteband blackhack i have doesnt scratch my Glock and there is no trigger guard to worry about. It just slides in and out. I was just askin about the serpa for winter carrying. I always Index before im ready to fire. When i draw from inside the wasteband the main thing is gettin my shirt out of the way.concealed carry.2 shots on target in 2.8 sec.
Thanks. Im gonna check out saffariland for winter. Might be the new holster for the Walther im gettin. Is 2.8 sec slow for concealed carry? Gonna be lookin for shoulder holster for winter, I have heard the Serpa scratches but have seen a lot of people using them. Definatley goin to check out the safariland. Thanks again. At least i know something else about the blackhawk. I just lucked out gettin mine.
To quote Clint Smith, "I've never seen a stopwatch in a gunfight." Remember the adage slow is smooth; smooth is fast. A technique I use for IWB is to take the support hand, in my case the left, and place it at about the two o'clock position at my waist. I then proceed to forcefully pull my left hand and arm up towards my right shoulder while establishing my firm firing grip. I let the clothing go and bring the support hand and firing hand together whist pushing the pistol towards the target.
It is the current threat level. if your a police officer just on patrol or a security officer at your post there is little threat. if there is a threat you are about to walk into, you would want to have the level 2.
You DO NOT have to PRESS the thumb button to lock the hood in.

you have one for a glock21?
yoroot20 5 months ago
dude you're fucking stupid you don't have to hold the retention button to put the hood back on
