I've tried to find this recording for years; I remember seeing David Wiffen sing it so many times around Ottawa in the mid-70's. Everyone knew all the words and sang with him. It's wonderful to see him play it again after so long.
@MsPlanet3 Are you a "John and Jim Smale" from the London area. If so, I'll bet we met many times at Smale's Pace. Is this important? Prolly not, but it keeps some of us in communication regarding an important socio-business event in London, Ont., and feels cool just to remember. If not - sorry you missed it.
I have this LP along, with Coast to Coast Fever and have played these songs myself for years. I saw David in London at the Change of Pace way back. One of my heroes. So good to see these videos posted. This is a gorgeous performance with a beautiful arrangement. Thank you.
Love this. Brings tears to my eyes for all the times we saw David play at The Bunkhouse at Seymour & Davie in Vancouver. My family used to play there, and a few years later in my life I was with a band that opened for "Three's A Crowd" at a concert at SFU. He and Mike Dorsey both had that smooth-as-hot-buttered-rum bass-baritone - but David could write. Lord, but I do miss those days. I'm still singing - and I heard he's living in Ottawa, now. Wish him the best - "wherever he is."
1977, Blue Room in Oshawa, what a voice, loved him then, even more now, cant' believe he's not more well known, but then none of the real ones are. God, there were so many great folkie back then, ie. David Essig, Original Sloth, Pied Pumkin, Perth County Conspiracy, Rick Mazeriek?, Willie P. Bennett, etc., love them all.. Thank you for posting.
David is part of my life. Met my wife listening to him at Hiboo. If the Chaudiere Geen Door means anything to you like it does to meor dancing to the MRQ at the Rendevous, God bless David.
This is one of the most wonderful songs that I have the chance to listen in my life. David Wiffen has a tremendous talent and I am sure that it will be appreciate with the time like all the talented artist !
Brings back memories from the 60's and 70's> Seems like his voice really held up over the course of time, and of course, the song is still great! Happy New Year David.
