  • The Republican candidates are pro-Theology and anti science. The best option is Barack Obama. OBAMA 2012!

  • the devil knows how to talk. that's why God sent his own son to save us. he may give the best speeches but has the worst intentions. Ron Paul is our only answer unless you wanna have another revolutionary war. just take it easy and vote for Ron Paul in 2012

  • ... and now Nasa is gone.

  • I am studying for a chemistry degree, and I am inspired to work harder by President Obama's words. Regardless of your political affiliation, it is good that he encourages youth to study hard.

  • Obama 2012!!!!!!

  • @fasfsdfasd that's exactly what he is saying. It's not bad to not be good in math or sciences, but it's nice from him to reward these who are good. go fuck yourself now

  • I'm a student, whose been struggling quite a bit with my classes recently. Whenever Obama gives out a speech I feel a lot of genuinity in what he says, and it just makes me feel so much better that we have a president who truly cares more than downright how much we apply ourselves in school. Obama does not just look at one aspect and judge from it, but rather he looks roundabout and makes sure that everything is 100% comfortable for students, starting with making education easier to grasp.

  • illuminati

  • I Love Obama!!!

  • @amitzivitzie Me too! Some American citizens are too ignorant to appreciate him.

  • maybe science can help Barry with his stuttering without his teleprompter

  • Remember when we had a REAL President?

    ----

IMPEACH THIS PIECE OF SHIT AND JAIL HIS LACKEY CRIMINALS--START WITH THAT RACIST DOUCHEBAG AG ERIC HOLDER!

  • This is useful to help me sleep. I'll run this video tonight and I will fall asleep in 10 minutes =).

  • Obama looks real uncomfortable saying god bless america.lol

  • He said everything just right... Somehow his promise just seems too good to be true.

  • @googoo120 no he didn't say everything just right. as long as secrecy has higher authority than anything else science cannot thrive and USA has had a dark cancer of secrecy for many decades. and beyond that his promises are even too good to be true. he talks a lot but has failed to stop the wars and even escalate them and do saber rattling for more wars like the unfounded rhetoric against Iran. however much I'd like him to be what he seems to be I fear he is not at all. indeed I know he is not

  • About fucking time. America may actually atone for it's dreadful leadership in the last decade.

  • His knowledge of science, evidently, is not that extensive, but he does have a fantastic appreciation for science, as an enterprise, and that's more that I could have hoped for.

  • "God: Hidden Science" - Google it!

  • @byScrooby

Stop filling your head with fiction, boy. Get an education.

  • im becoming an engineer

  • @JUKIO01 I am too! What kind and university? Just curious...

  • Thank you Obama for your words. I come from Italy and to my gov'ernment's priorities science, education and culture are as important as rubbish. World needs people like you.

  • italy sucks, went there for vacation, see the vatican 16 chapels, the ruins, colleseum, all they care about over there are looks and religion,i felt out of place

  • @POOPPEPPER i would say , so obama is working for the devil

  • I glad the scientists and medecine communities.

    Happy New Year 2010

  • he does a good job keeping his reading face on at all times so when he is reading the prompt you cannot tell. that promt ruined this speach lol

  • This demagogue pisses me off he talks about science yet his science "czar" Holdren HATES SCIENCE he calls for "dedevelopment" what a joke!

  • @TrutherD1 i believe you man, but alot of people probly wont wake up until they see for themselves and by that time its too late.

  • God is it refreshing to listen to such a well spoken, knowledgeable, insightful, far sighted and inspirational man.

    What a change! :)

He may be speaking as a Nationalist, but as the president of America Obama and his administration act as a role model to other nations.

Obama: "Under my administration, the days of science taking a backseat to ideology are over"

  • Obama the first Nigerian, Closet Atheist, materialist, Rationalist, Latino president in America!

  • Does anybody know if there is a transcript of this discourse?

  • Yeah, can anyone PM me the transcript too.

    @lecatie

if you receive a link for the transcript can you share it too.

  • NATIONAL ACADEMY OF SCIENCES

It would be ideal if member of the Academy step forward and reflect on the history of Swine Flu, namely that in 1976 the government had another scare campaign highlighted in "60 Minutes Mike Wallace 1976 Swine Flu scam" where CDC right here on youtube makes an ass of itself and the US Government by using scare tactics similar to the ones you have today.

Now it would reason that those in the Sciences come out and say something, than the cowardice Grant$ approach.

  • NATIONAL ACADEMY OF SCIENCES:

Science would be a good idea, especially where your mission is to help society better itself.

One of those would be to look at H1N1 numbers, according to CDC, you have 36,000 deaths / year from the flu. Now we are not even at 10% that level but we have a national panic on our hands. SCIENCE is a measure of numbers. It would be ideal to use logic in statements of a national emergency when the numbers dont add up.

60 Minutes 1976 Swine Flu Scare DejaVu GOVCON

  • President Barack Obama, the winner of the Peace Nobel Prize: Congratulations!

All nations need your help to align this ideology and strategy. Although this require before a common ethical-moral system with strongest universal values, where the nations work to achieve United Nations Millennium Development Goals.

I believe that only the healthy tension to global competition between nations allows ongoing development of the world.

  • Obama is a closet atheist I love it.

  • he really is an atheist :)

    it makes me SO happy

  • A typical speech from a business-oriented politician. He talks about solving the energy problem (including the reduction of carbon emission) because fossil fuels are running out, not so much because of the harm that is doing to the planet from the emitted carbon. Quoted a lot on basic research, but his aim was not so much to achieve something useful, instead it was to beat the other countries to it. At least he has got some values right about what should be done towards science education.

  • Bravo Mr. President - God Bless USA!

  • shut up you ignorant racist

  • Racist? Against whom? Obama is barely even black, he's more Arabic. And besides, my three favorite musical artists are Bob Marley, Jimi Hendrix, and Sidney Bechet. I had no mention of racism in my previous comment. It is you, child, that insinuated racism, not I.

  • except for the fact that his father is from kenya and his mom is from kansas. he's totally more arabic than black. you think he's more arabic bc you think he's a muslim. which is ignorant. you mentioned america is home of the gutless slaves. what does that imply? tell me, i would like to know.

  • We are all brainwashed sheep, through religion, government, media, and public schools

  • the internet un-sheeps people

  • Hopefully... Are you a red dot or a blue dot? ; - )

  • I see you're getting hastey again. I never said he's a muslim, nor do I care if he was/s one. Religion itself are cultural ways of going to Papa (Creator). If you cannot understand what my comment implies about how American's today are gutless, well then I'm not going to bother explaining my reasoning behind said remark.

  • @shackelfrdace69 it means we love to kiss the goverments ass and follow our leaders with out question, no one wants to stand up against the gov, even though we can see wrong doing, this is a gutless slave.

  • You are not bad, just misinformed.

  • Maybe his name is pooppepper.

  • I would probably think that you are just ignorant...

  • ObamaObamaObamaObama

  • Wooooow! Obama have to be the best president since... ever!

  • I know two professors that actually went tot this.

  • LOL, it should be: "I know two professors that actually went to this." Anyway, the speech was great, five stars!

  • Ignorance is bliss for some who don't have all the facts. Anyways I really like this pres. Hope he can just find ways to convince the groups under him to the best answers.

  • Oh thank goodness we finally have a president that doesn't believe we live in a flat earth that was created by a divine invisible being 6,000 years ago that will come save all the good people when we finally do nuke the place. Maybe now we will actually see some progress into saving our own butts since apparently hoping really hard while we still do all the bad stuff that got us here doesn't seem to cut it. Seriously though, thank you President Obama for acknowledging the importance of science.

  • ummm, ever president since Nixon uses as teleprompter. how fucking stupid are you???

  • To hear this speech makes me want to be an American citizen.

    Let reason and science prevail!

  • Oh damn ... should have stayed out of here. Now some Webtrends cookie is going to follow me all over the Internet.

  • Thank God we have a president who believes in science again, after eight years of pandering to the theocratic Right.

  • @kaspianaaby don't thank god, thank people

  • @BRIANisALRIGHT in God we trust :)

  • @SangMarocain you can't trust god because there is nothing to invest your trust in, i try my best to trust people because i actually interact with them

  • @SangMarocain i'm not saying you don't interact with people, i'm saying that i've never interacted with god, seen god, or spoken to god so i can't invest trust in god, not that i don't want to, i actually can't because to me, it is an impossibility

  • Great speech and important legislation

  • Certainly this man is the best representative of any country on Earth at this moment. My optimism is beginning to return.

    Thank God!!! 'whew'

  • Haha, I don't blame you for losing your optimism after the last eight years. I think Obama might be what this country needs. I don't agree with a lot of stuff he does, but he at least knows what he's doing unlike a certain president.

  • everybody will disagree with something he does, but he is doing what he promised he would do on the campaign and that scares people, a president doing what he says.

He speaks intelligently and that scares people who cant connect with him intellectually.

I dislike most of his foriegn policy but I wont spend all my time railing on it and instead focus on debating the issue, staying informed to keep my reps in congress in check and have them keep him in check, and help him where I agree.

  • It's must be frustrating when the audience applause far to long.

  • Who Sarah Palin? Bobby Jindal?

Face it, Republicans are fast becoming a minority in America. I have mixed feelings about it, because they sometimes have good points, but that's what happens when you pander to the religious right... people eventually get an education and grow beyond you.

  • You're wrong and you're pulling the stats out of your ass. People are jumping off the sinking boat right now... so keep with the wishful thinking. Goes with the kind of mind that props itself up on religion.

  • Prove to me that you got that statistic from a reliable source and I'll paypal you $1000.

Otherwise, go back to doing whatever inbred idiots do.

  • Damn is this a good speech, if he does what he says, he would be the greatest President of the US.

  • so far so good, i am sure hes interested in advancing more then just stem cell research, which he has opened up.

  • finally, a president with a cesar due. for the first time in a long time , i am a proud american. we are living amidst new winds people, its fuckin beautiful!

  • "Uhhh... Go ahead and move it up."

    Nice work, TOTUS.

  • your message is growing thin. he is doing everything your 'movie' says he's not. you have lost nutjob

  • Ron Paul doesn't believe in evolution. LOL DINOSAURS.

  • Pheorach is right. I saw Paul explain his views on creationism vs evolution it in a video. He's a doctor. So does he really not believe in Evolution, or does he figure a majority of his libertarian followers don't believe in evolution. Makes me wonder. I think he may be more calculated than his trusting followers think he is.

  • Is a fortune to have someone whi trust reason at the responsability of the US Gov... The world needed not a fundamentalist as America´s president so much....

  • smarter than you will ever be

  • Which president are you talking about? Did you mean Obama, or every president before him, ever? Because all of them had cue cards.

  • That word, Nazi, is thrown around a lot. Mostly because people use it as a 'shock' word. And because they don't understand it.

    The ignorance... The Ignorance.....

  • I'm very glad that the president's worst criticisms are so trivial. If you knew the issues well enough to make a valid criticism, you'd probably wind up agreeing with most of his policies.

  • What a silly thing to say. If you think the administration's performance hasn't been front page news for the last three months, you haven't been reading a newspaper. The same is true in today's paper. However, if you're looking for a newspaper to recapitulate the last 100 days of old news on the front page, you'll find it wrapped around the merchandise at the fish market or lining someone's bird cage.

  • Got anything of substance to say?

  • time to use science to make cannabis laws not politcs and religion

  • I like the fact that he takes science seriously, and that the Americans need to take the scientifical explanation, which also is the only real evidence when it comes to life, and the Universe, rather than going by the babble.

Oh yeah, I laughed a bit when he nearly forgot to say "G*d bl*ss ***, and *o* b*e*s Americä."

I think he is an atheist, really. No devout believer would be so welcoming towards science.

  • You are awesome.

  • USA UNEMPLOYMENT NUMBERS 15.6% which is the U6 number

Not the U3 number the goverment show you.

USA will reach Depression level unemployment and surpass it

    Bureau of Labour stats

  • What does this have to do with the topic at hand?

  • It's because of science that we still aren't living in caves and using clubs to hunt for our food, and why you are likely to live into your 80's-90's instead of dying as an infant or living until your 30's-40's. Civilization and everything about the modern world is a product of science.

I'm glad that we now have a president that understands the significance of science and innovation.

  • Actually science as we know it today is only about 250-300 years old. Besides science also invented the nuclear, atomic, and neutron bombs, along with poisonous gas, the potential for super-diseases immune to any form of treatment and we are beginnibg to tamper with forces we can never hope to tame. Don't get me wrong science can do great good, but it is not the panacea for all of mankind's problems. It is only as good as the intentions of the people who wield it,

  • Science Is Important, Like The Science How How To Kick Ass and Remember Ramadan

  • He looks exhausted. Notice how much more grey his hair is now than it was before the election. The presidential stress is beginning to take it's physical toll.

  • He'll be okay. I'm an atheist and I'm still praying for him. :-)

He has 7 more years ahead of him.

  • i agree i was just telling my husband that same thing

i remember watching is 2004 dnc speech then of course the begining of the campaign although i supported hillary when he won the nom i backed him cause hell john mcain was scary

anyway im off point lol he has aged alot since then its intersting to watch the pres age so fast like they do

  • It is amazing to see, especially with Clinton and Bush. I think Obama purposly makes himself a little older looking by not dying his hair etc.. just to hold the aura of being wise or experienced. It has to pay off in his negotiating.

  • I love Obama, but he's lookin kinda blazed here. Look at his eyes!

  • I noticed he didn't once mention prayer or intercession or ritual or sacrifice when he spoke about healing diseases and finding cures and preventions. He spoke of hard work and the long time that these things take to develop. It's disgusting to me that he ended his speech (as he has done others) with "God bless you, and God bless the United States of America". What a horrible way to end this realistic speech!

  • Prayer, intercession, ritual, and sacrifice in SCIENCE? Seriously stephenetienne, you made me lol'd at your stupidity.

  • Oh I did, religion is irrelevant to science, and you criticized Obama's ending words.

  • shut up

  • You skeptics make me sick to my stomach! Don't you idiots have any faith?

  • Faith is for religion. Actions are what is important. Nationalizing everything is an action.

  • seriously? did you just say he is a shame?

  • Dumasses get into good school because daddy went there, but get low grades Like George Bush. Or they rank near the bottom of their class, like John McCain. Or they go to several schools to get a journalism degree. Like Sara Palin. Dumasses don't go to Harvard and get a law degree Suma Cum Lade.

  • lol! He opens with a scientific method joke!

  • We once again have a President who is capable of embracing religion and embracing capitalism without abandoning science and without having to censor and bury accurate scientific reports from his own government.

    Thank God!

  • Comment removed

  • Can any of the blind Obama worshippers name ONE program he has implemented that directly helps them. Answer: NO! Of course not. A person has to totally block their reasoning abilities to follow this fraud.

  • Stuff like this doesn't improve the economy over night. It takes months and you thinky ou can do better.

  • Even though I disagree with many of Obama's policies, I couldn't be more pleased that he understands the importance of science and how much it has improved our standard of living.

This is a complete turnaround from the backwards policies of our previous president.

Separation of Church and State forever.

  • depending on how you look at it, that can be a great thing and exactly what we need right now.

  • Do you know anything about what Bush and his cabinet did to impede scientific research in the name of religious beliefs? Do some research before you projectile vomit your party line.

  • banned stem-cell research...

  • Not a lie. Bush vetoed a bill that lifted funding restrictions on stem cell research. It was his first veto. It was vetoed on July 19, 2006. Look it up.

  • A few examples of Bush's ignorance of science:

-White House OMB Attempted to allow the government to hand-pick scientists to second-guess real research (2003)

-Ignored CDCP research on preventing lead poisoning (2004)

-Bush vetoes Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act (2006)

-Promises to double NSF budget in 5 years. (2002) Increases 14% over both terms.

I could go on, but i'm running out of space. If you'd really like to know more, ask any scientist, they'll tell you!

  • I didn't say he did. In 2004 he allowed funding of adult stem cell research, but in 2006 he vetoed embryonic stem cell research, calling it "murder". This was a huge blow to the scientific community.

  • geetryflb, do you ever anything else better to do than writing up retarded comments against Obama?

  • If you had actually read what I have said, you'd know a few things:

    1. I have provided more than one example of Bush's IGNORANCE of the IMPORTANCE of science in our society. The vetoeing of embryonic stem cell research is one of many.Look up my other examples.

    2. I didn't vote for Obama and I never gave him a dime during his campaign (no, I didn't vote for McCain), and I actually disagree with him on many policies. This is one of the few that I am pleased with.

Read what I say for once.

  • he bannded stem cell Research on dead baby fetuses and frozen embryo eggs. But said ok let's extract stem cells from adults which is good.

  • Respond to the points that he has made and stop calling him names. You are being very immature.

  • uhg why dont you learn to read.

  • "In November 1954, five months before his death, Einstein summarized his feelings about his role in the creation of the atomic bomb: "I made one great mistake in my life... when I signed the letter to President Roosevelt recommending that atom bombs be made; but there was some justification - the danger that the Germans would make them." (Clark, pg. 752). "

  • barack obama will go down has the best president ever********

  • very profound

  • "the days of science taking a backseat to ideology are over...

to undermine scientific integrety is to undermine our democracy...

I want to make sure that FACTS are driving scientific decisions, not the other way around..."

    YES!!!

  • legalize weed

  • OMFG YES!!!

  • if that were to happen i would........ get high. LEGALIZE IT!

  • You are probably right. There is a lot of research out them and the great majority of it seems positive to the effects of that substance. You have scientific, legal, and moral reasons to legalize it. Sometimes it seems overly obvious, but until politicians realize that in a couple years national polls will support such legislation it may continue to be a taboo subject.

  • The swine flu is a pretty pathetic beginning... more people die from car accidents daily then the recent strain of swine flu has killed total.

Its ineffectiveness on the world could have something to do with our advanced medical *science* ... who knows!

  • That has got to be one of the sickest things I have ever heard. And I hear alot of crazy things on youtube.

  • "That has got to be one of the sickest things I have ever heard. And I hear alot of crazy things on youtube"

I'm sorry, I did overdo it. I was trying to be sarcastic. I would never wish death on anyone.

My comment was in response to what another person posted which I took to mean that the flu is a punishment from God.

"Swine Flu is just the beginning. Repent your sins because the Day of the Lord shall come like a thief in the night. "

  • We finally have a president that cares not only about our environment, but about advancing science as well!

    Obama rocks!!!!

  • I am absolutely satisfied that we FINALLY have a president in office that respects science and that speaks out and DOES SOMETHING about misguided individuals making important decisions on fact-less ideologies. We need to base our decisions on facts, evidence, logic, and science so that we make the BEST decisions possible. I'll not sit back while oil tycoons and misguided religious leaders badmouth the SOLID, peer-reviewed, and journal-published findings of climate change physics and science.

  • High end attorneys do it all the time actually. When you make the big bucks, you got to remember like 40 minute closing comments and opening speeches.
