@mvdrawer keep them about 25 c, and just feed them cabbage etc, yes you can give them grass, but cabbage it more juicer, and try cucumber, but remember they go moldy fast so you will need to take it out after a few hours. and remember because they are so small, even a dot of water can drown them, so be carful what you are feeding them :) good luck!
My icecream tub has been filling up with eggs over the past few days I cut an egg tray to fit around the top to help the females to get in. All has went well up till now I will let you know if the eggs hatch. Thanks for the help
@farmerz245 not really tbh! in the video you sore how such a small space all the tanks fitted in! just don't over populate the cages and it should be fine!
Just so you know, if you keep the eggs incubated at up to 30c expect nymphs at around 12-14 days. 25c is as low as you'd want to go, so hotter (up to 30) means quicker hatching, colder will slow, anything below 15c will kill them off completely.
Try putting some cardbore fold and hang over the side of you tubs that should help with laying I have to do this with my crickets I use empty cerial box ab strach some lines accros with a sharp knife so the can get a grip after doing the the femails were in the tubs in a few minuets........hope this helps you
how many do i need start with i hav brought 2 boxes of the big ones with full size wings and im going to get some more but they only got the adult ones not full size will that be ok and will they still breed pleease help im new to this my email justinbatleysasha@yahoo.co.uk
@TheH0tstuf not very long.. you would need to microwave it to kill any germs if its from the garde, if you have the set up correct you should have babys in no time
hi i have just put soil in a tub 2 toilet roll tubes stiks and cabbage and a heat mat on one side and i have an other tubes for the babies when they hatch and i sray them is all that ok
@The360gameplayer yes you can i did that once when eggs hatched and i didn't know they was there lol!! keep them well fed though or the adults may have an early lunch!!
can any one of you PLEASE ship live locsusts to me, i am in usa. our crickets are dying off, i need locusts! i keep as personal use and breed for myself only. please help!
if you can't get them in usa, chances are that they're restricted/and they'd probably be confiscated when they got to the airport and you may even receive legal punishment..... check out the laws first...
thank you, just made my first locust breeding station. I think insects in the UK have been treated with a grwoth inhibitor because I have tried Zophorus mario and meal worms before with no success. Still I keep the faith and am trying locusts
@Billybunter32 Wow, bet it looks awesome! hmm rather interesting, Meal worms seem really easy to breed, I have been for over a year now! Good Luck!!! Hope all goes well!! I have just set a new set up and brought new locusts but had really bad weather what just affected them even though they were in the right temperature, then they all died!! Typical eh~? Im going to wait till next month now!!
I have a bosc monitor who has about 6 adults a day and 2 beardies who have about 15 large a day between them. Im wanting to save money so how big a setup would I need to be self sufficiant?
i would say start with about 30-50 locusts, each litter hatched usally has about 35-55 in it, a standard large glass tank or about 3 of the large tank i have in the video, it's one of the biggest ones you can get. It will take a while for you to have a constant supply of them as i have been doing it for about 3 months and it's slowly paying off. i would say about 5 to 6 months you should be able to have a constant supply of you home hatched locusts.
I love your video, Very imformative. Ive started breeding and i was wondering (as you dont keep your heat mat on all the time) how cold does your tank get when the mats are off. Im wanting to make sure its not too cold here.
Oh thankyou! im in England and so it does get cold but as they are in my bedroom they dont go any lower than 18 c thats the lowest i've every seen it without the heating on. with heating on in the house and the heat mat not on 21 c
There isn't no need to be nasty, doing it step by step help people more, even if you need to do that bit of extra work, you can see the results better.
hi :) i have a question if i mix little bit of desert sand with soil would that be ok? also when you take the eggs from the soil how long should i leave them be for i take the eggs out and put them into smaller tubes to incubate them?. Thanks
Yes its fine to mix sand and soil it together, put alot more soil than sand though. I usually wait about a day or two before i take them out of the soil so they can settle as they are soft for the first day.
When you have taken the eggs out, place them in a small tub or cricket box full of soil and make sure there's about 1cm under the soil. sprey the top so the humidity is high, then just place them on a heat mat for about 5 hours a day.
Then it will probably take 2 weeks from then for them to hatch, when they have hatched put them in a tank were you can get in . not a mouse tank because as i found out, everytime i open it without realising there hopping to freedom, maybe a glass tank with slidey doors.
