@40joel Exxon have invested heavily, both traditional biofuels and Algae based fuels are being made, but they are nowhere near enough to replace oil, oil is still much cheaper costing them $30- $40 a barrel. But even when Algae takes over completely, we the consumers will not get cheaper fuels.
@VERGIS92 I completely agree. If Exxon wanted to produce bio-fuels they would just launch production when oil was expected to be back at $90 and it would be profitable. When production is started the price of production would drop. Instead they hold ships back to drive prices higher before they off load the oil.
For all I know, I don't believe Exxon investing in algae-based biofuel is anything benevolent that they want us to believe. By forcing people to rely on limited resource like fossil fuel, they can jack up their profits at an astonishing rate. And no doubt they have an army of lobbying firms to impede progress on alternative energy. Who do you think paid Senator David Vitter to impose a ridiculous law to punish people using solar energy?
@NaziGOPBallmer So true. Exxon and BP launched ads to appear as "green" companies in the public eye. Can you believe people are buying that these are green operations?!
Haha I know, I saw those lying ads. I believe there's a term specifically for this whole deception regarding how oil barons deal with green energy, they call it "Green Wash".
My left ear is lonely.
