The CSA not only couldn't produce ( and at such fast pace) what the north did but they had to rely in importing good form England, Continental Europe or even Mexico.
In addition to that the US naval blockade ended up chocking the CSA capacity to manoeuvre. ( US maneuver)

The North had the war won from the get go, since it had been industrialized for several years. This significantly increased its general wealth and was able to produce more and must faster than the south. Especially in terms that matter ( in times of war, that is) guns, AMO, military equipt. etc )
The south by contrast was still under an agrarian society relying principally on hand manufactured goods ( not to mention the slave labor).

THey say things like they were FOUNDED on slavery, it was ordained by the Almighty. Their economy and social status were based on slavery. Slavery became the issue before Lincolns re-lection, I think James Longstreet said it best when stated they should have freed the slaves first then fired on fort sumter, either way fascinating period of US history, yes the black people got their freedom in the end but thats all they got, nothing else.

Are you nuts? The civil war wasnt about slavery??? THe SOUTH -- the SOUTH -- said it was. They said it was. Read their declarations of independence. They said it was about slavery. The north wasn't trying to end slavery -- but the south didn't even like anyone in the north talking against slavery. If you SPOKE against slavery in the south, you could be hung. If you had ANY printed material against slavery in the south, you could be hung. The civil war ended up abeing about slavery.

Tactics around that time was still based that infantry had to get close to prevent losses and deal considerable damage. Gun power weapons hadn't reached their true potential at that time and military commanders were still taught the tactics of medieval warfare "skirmish than charge".

The confederates didn't even have rifled muskets at this point. The shape of the island only allowed one regiment to approach the fort at a given time. modern tactics hadn't been developed yet...

Yes,the Confederates did have rifled muskets.Charleston is a major port.They could have gotten the rifled muskets.And while this fight might be an old Napoleaonic fight,you started see modern tactics at other places.Look at Petersburg,Vicksburg,Cold Harbor,and the Atlanta campaign to name a few.

My appologies, the "vast majority" of the confederate army didn't have rifled muskets. Charleston was a major port that was under Union blockade for a year and a half prior to when the movie is depicting. Petersburg, Cold Harbor and the atlanta campaign took place a year and a half to two years later. Vicksburg fell to grant two weeks before the 54th rushed battery wagner. Didn't mean to pick a fight

If you look at the history,most of the CS army will have rifle muskets.The AOT will not have them in mass quantities until 1864.And 1863 is the year we see the death of old Napoleaonic tactics.I'm a history major.Just trying to teach a little with a good video.

180,000 blacks served in regiments like the 54th, one media-ized more than the others, per chance. The world at the time looked down on slavery by civilized peoples of the day, which America wanted to be thought of as. Think about how the Yankees always gave the black regiments the crappiest/deadliest jobs. The 54th Mass. had to make a frontal attack on Fort Wagner, NC. The US Army brass knew it was a suicidal attack. Northerners hated freed blacks. Look at the race riots in New York City right after Gettysburg. So much for the idea of an open minded North! God bless the South! The Confederate cause was just. If you think the idea secession is 'dead', look at the Lakota nation leaving the Union.

Don`t give your opponent a "noble" cause to fight for cause they don`t really care.
