Oh, those crazy, funny, prankster, Romans. Always coming up with fun ways to party and give everyone a nice laugh. The original masters of family entertainment.
@mattb551" Romans did NOT call their whips a cat of nine tails. The Latin word they used is flagrum. Even though most Christians refer to a Roman whip as a Cat of Nine Tails – a real British Cat O Nine Tails is like a toy in comparison." from naturesdesignonline
d romans used to crucify women as well. wonder if they got ravaged in between during their scourging, before nailing the condemned to d cross, or after they're on d cross itself..
Experiment? So this video is actually a showing a man being scourged for REAL? I'm amazed that someone would volunteer to have that done. (And before any1 says 'Jesus did', I don't believe in Christianity).
Now that we've covered crucifixions, could we now have physiogical analyses and demonstrations of: (a) Christians torturing and burning those accused of "witchcraft"; (b) good Catholics performing miscellaneous tortures during the days of the Inquisition; (c) lynching of black men by good Christians in the old south; (d) stoning and gougings of various persons who believers in God considered offensive; etc. It's important for us all to know how righteous are the believers in Jehovah God.
When the Romans flogged you for crucifixion, they took ALL your clothes off and unless you were in Judea or other places with similar mores, you STAYED naked. In Judea, they put your clothes back on, but only for the death march when you carried the crossbeam from the flagellation post to the execution site.
jim caviezel who played christ in the passion said during the scourging scenes he got caught once or twice. He stated he couldnt scream because it winded him so badly.
Why are they laughing? There is nothing funny about suffering. When time travel becomes available, I'll slowly slit the throats of anyone who took pleasure of torturing their fellow human beings!
I'm not trying to sound juvenile...but a person would most likely poop and puke on the cross....let alone the penetrations through the wrists and feet and the weight being suspended on them.
That is one of the most horrible ways to die. A lot of people think the "Passion of the Christ" was exaggerated, but the real crucifixion was worse. It was one of the worst forms of public punishment. No one could imagine what somebody went through during this process.
what "rules" about this? Do you like stuff like this? Would you participate in this if it was allowed by law?
I think that you're a disease to society. You probably hide your sick thoughts and bizarre interests behind a mask that you wear everyday to work. Then at home you secretly enjoy snuff films and sh** like that. I hope you get into a fatal accident so that we can be rid of the vile undercover devils like you, coward.
maybe you are talking about your presidents. No actually, I wasn't talking about my presidents, I was talking about you. Now if "This shit rules" was just a joke then fine. I take it all back. but there ARE some people that enjoy cruelty and with a comment like that, I thought you were one of them. Also, I hope it's our government you dislike and not the people...because we are a good hearted people on a whole. and I believe this with all my heart. I don't have time to protest anyone's abuses, I'm too busy working and raising my daughter.

It most likely was more than 30. It's usually 39, minus one if performed according to the law of Moses. But the Romans weren't bound by that law, and it was probably a lot more than 39.
So true, and people think "The Passion of the Christ" was exaggerated. It was common practice in those days to carry out these types of public punishment. If they could feel a pulse, they would throw cold water on you and continue. Taxes weren't fun either.
@thetruecatalan I never seen passion of the christ but as i known it it was painful in those days when crucifixion was around. I saw a play on channel 30 about when jesus was around and when i saw the cruxifixion it looked so real. I began to cry.
@thetruecatalan Oh, cool. So were you there? Were you there to actually witness this? You saw exactly how a fictional character was treated? Please. Tell us all...englighten us, I should say, as to how this person you have no evidence of, no physical proof of, was treated. You seem to be an expert, yes?
Based on your confrontational, mocking tone, I can say that compared to you, I am an expert. I've spent much time studying Ancient Roman history with special regard to crime and punishment, and I stand by what I said.
It would cause horrific pain for the person on the cross becaue the back is against the cross. The wounds on the back would rub against the wood causing them to snag and rip which cause even more pain. Blood loss also would make it hard for him/her to carry the beam to the site.
Well the humiliation on being helplessly tied on a cross naked or wearing underwear in the front of a massive crowd would already have been devastating, especially for shy introverts like me.
And people can see today's police holding their subjects without a flagrum, right?
@chrismc410 The purpose of scourging was to "prepare" the person for the cross. A prisoner, severely weakened from the beating, was easier to handle, and died more quickly on the cross. I suspect they were stripped naked and led to the cross that way. From the soldier's point of view, the soldier had a job to do, and treated the prisoner as dead meat, to be disposed of accordingly.
man, in scourging, i don't think im going to survive that pre-crucifix. By the time that those big bodied romans are whipping me while i'm tied up and lauging at me at the same time, i'm going to faint! :/ by the time that they will let me carry the cross, i'm already dead.. very bloody and painful :(
Im not, my father is a lawyer and sees people come to the courts with saggy pantt lo0oking like gangsters and cholos, they should whipped for disrespect for our courts. instead of doing community service or waste our tax payers money on jail, we should invest in whipping people, to deter theft, lying, and vandalism.
That's nothing. I've known of people turning up in court wearing shorts. Shorts for crying out loud, showing off their pasty white legs. I think a whip applied to their bare legs might have a positive affect on them.
When it gets into what it does to a person's heart, I'm cringing more than the rest. Just a sick feeling. Someone mentioned lower crime rates. I think lower crime rates have more to do with ability to catch the actual criminals and with people not living in desperate settings, and less to do with what the punishment for a crime is. Even in places where women are put to death for it today, women still cheat on their husbands.
you think watching this was bad. this wasn't jack shit compared to the passion of the christ scourging. that was a 10 min massacre and the whip looked a lot nastier too. that was some serious torture i think the worse ever. i couldnt imagine the amount of pain and suffering. OUCH! thats a damn beating!!!
