  • are crankbaits like this good for trout?

  • @yabudday121 YES!!!!!!!!! try the strikeking bitsy pond minnow!!!!

    Roger

  • @exbassguide thanks a lot!!

  • Bandit crank baits are awesome.. I love em they have the best bream patterns. Also, the KVD 1.5 and 2.5 are good.

  • Picked up a bandit 100 citrus Shad, yesterday and landed a huge bass. Also the KVD are money 1.5 and 2.5

  • Silver lake out in Ohio I think in Stow?

  • @Zandargwide No. The one I am talking about is in Washington state.

    Roger

  • that first 1 would work hella good in my lake.

  • whats the forage in that lake

  • @TheSuperbassassasin Bluegill, perch, crappie, sculpin and trout.

    Roger

  • 100 series bandit crank bait in blue back and chartruce sides!

3 inch Senko fish the island with houses on it! Fish the senko under docks on the island.

    Roger

  • hay im goin fishing to silver lake what lure shod i use for bass thanks

  • I went out and perched one of those Bandit model 100's (exact same as yours) you seemed to like it. Today was my first day of using it and cough a lot of bass. Thanks for recommenced it.

    - Jack

  • where did you say Silver Lake was again?? how far is it from Cleveland Ohio?? Sorry for asking again. Thank you

    - Jack

  • @entwistle14 Near Portland Oregon

  • No it is in Washington State.

    Roger

  • Silver Lake Connecticut????

  • how do u "bang on rocks" cause i always get stuck on them

  • @RALFLUU123456789 If you are hanging up in the rocks raise your rod tip and your crank will not dive as deep and your crank with hit thew tops of the rocks. If you do not hip rocks drop the rod tip a little.

move your rod tip so you hit the rocks but do not hang up ALL the time.

    Roger

  • @exbassguide o cool k thx

  • That first one you showed is great I caught an 8 pound bass last week off of it

  • great video man

  • That blue sparkled splatterback with white in the bottom right corner of your tackle box, who makes it?

  • @ffnv88a8f I this the company that makes it is called "poes". It is not one of my top picks but give it a try it could work better for you.

    Roger

  • bandit

  • bandit

makes all types of good crankbaits

  • Thank you so much Roger !! You have gave me some really great advice . All of your videos are great! Keep up the great work! Thank you for replying!

  • Hi my names Kyle and I've never used a crankbait. can you give me some simple tips? I live in west Virginia and I plan on going to mud river lake this spring. Thanks , Kyle

  • @kp98fisher Crank baits work best around rocks. I love fishing rocks with crank baits at first light. Crank baits work great when fishing piling rows or along logs in the water. cast to the shadey side and hold on ;) ude a bright color early in the day and swith to natural colors like crawfish as the sun light touches the water.

    Roger

  • @kp98fisher id get some top waters like buzbaits or poppers if ur going deeper use some flash try out gold or silver spoons or bright crankbaits

  • One more question where i live almoat every lake has a ton of weeds but really nice fish so what baits would u recomend for a large weeded area in spring and summer?

  • Dude ur the man and thank you for replying to my question ive watched all yor vids and everything is great just lets see u put some videos on of u pulling in the big ones!!!!!

  • So i live in a small town in norton mass and we have about 4 or5 lakes but only one of them is all natural and thts where i do all my fishing because i feel the fish have been there longer and have grown more i just want your oppinion as to if a natural pond is better than man mad Also i have houses on the natural one and the man made reservior ive pulles nice fish from both but the biggest one i ever caught was in the natural one at 6lbs

  • @iamrichfitz New lakes CAN be better than an older lake! Because the new lake can have nutriants in the water that has leached out of the ground. I have heard of this happening and like 5 to 7 years after the lake was made the lake can go wild with bass growth. Do not limit your fishing do to what you think could be the case. Test your thoughts and prove them right. Each lake is differant so fish them all and over time you will find what lake is best.

    Good question! Roger

  • What brand is that green back square bill you showed, it looks like an excalibur, but they dont make that color.

  • what type of reel should i use for the crank baits?

i have a soinning reel and i have never seen anyone use a crank on them

  • @blackopnoobs101 I have fished crank baits for years with spinning gear. Make sure you use at least ten pound test or you will loose to many cranks. Roger

  • @blackopnoobs101 Luckycraft RC

  • how do you not get them snagged on weeds and wht technique do u use

  • @tyler89r Weeds are not the best place to use crank baits. I like tossing crank baits around piling, rock piles, rocky points hard bottom areas and next to logs. Lots of pros fish lipless crank baits over weeds but not down into thick weeds.Roger

  • I just got two of the X-Rap shad shallows from rapala. Bought the clown and hot head. Have you used them or heard of anybody having luck with them?

  • @nolangreen they are ok.

    Roger

  • I was just throwing the first one it was a strike king blue back/chart and I caught 15lbs in 1 hr I was fishing10 to 12ft.The color is awesome for where I live,I never thought I would catch a citation on a crankbait but I did the other day 6.2 23 in. I was shocked great color Smith Mountain Lake hog.

  • @nolangreen I live at Smith mountain lake and we use both the hot head and clown for stripers and bass they work well at night where I live, but otherwise early in the morning in march they work well for us on points and ledges.

  • Yes I was a guide for over ten years. fish with as many great bass fishermen as you can and learn all you can. Start fishing three to four days a week, to get lots of time on the water. always carry spinning rods they are much easier for beginers to fish with. Read all the books and magazines on bass. youtube is a good resorse. Watch ALL my videos:) . save up for a good bass boat.

    Roger

  • nice tips. i noticed your user name and was wondering if you used to be a fishing guide? im planning on being one and was wondering if you had any tips on that ?

    thanks

  • @The1SainPersonAlive Guide for small mouth bass, you do not need to be a good caster to catch them. large mouth in most lake are alot harder to catch because the casts you have to make are very hard for beginers. get good at fishing crank baits and spinner baits. those baits are a bit easier to fish for new people that have not done a great deal of bass fishing. find the best bass lake or river in the part of your state and guide there. Study all you can and practice your casting skills, Roger

  • where is silver lake at??

  • @entwistle14 It's near longview in Washington state.

    Roger

  • @exbassguide Oh wow, that's far, I live in Ohio XD

  • @entwistle14 where at in ohio? i'm near cleveland.

  • @imakillamann in cleveland

  • @entwistle14 damn really, where do you fish usuually?

  • @imakillamann Lake Erie, private ponds, any place I could get into.

  • I have a couple questions:

What color crank baits should I fish in the morning in a pond and in this pond it's all muddy. With lily pads. And what bout mid day and night???????? And same goes with a lake and this lake is very clear with rocks at the bottom and I will be fishing off the shore.

Do senkos work this time of the season? And what bout jitterbug????

And when should I use white spinnerbait?

  • @mrheadbandboy Early in the day I like to use chartruce with a blue back. The bass can see this color well. Mid-day The blue back works great too in the pond you are talking about. For clear water start out early with the blue back and when the sun is on the water switch to a tennesse shad color or crawdad colors. Senkos work year round! white spinner baits work best mid-day and fish on the shady side of logs or docks!

    Roger

  • Ha i have that same H20 xpress lure .. cheap ass lure but bad ass colors

  • Is it the silver lake in Vermont?

  • @VermonstersinNJ NO Washing state sorry

  • hey roger, what crank bait type/color or whatever would you suggest me to get to go around seaweed and lily pads?

  • @ghoulser234 Bandit cranks (100 series) work well in pads. And lipless crank baits work better in seaweed or other under water vegitation.

    Roger

  • is the silver lake your talkin bout in arkansas?

  • i would love to go fishing with this guy(:

  • i thought you use natural colors in murky water, like black, brown and dark green. almost all the pros say that but when you think about it bright colors make more sense. idk i just wasnt sure.

  • great video roger! i have one question if ya dont mind answering, right now the outside temp is staying around 65 degrees, and the water temperature is about 50 degrees, would a crankbait work right now? in early and late march from there on?

  • Jigs and plastic will work better most of the time in early spring. I start using cranks more in April.

    Thanks!!! Roger

  • ah ya thanks, i was fishing a green pumpkin and purple jig with a berkley chiggercraw trailer and caught a decent size bass at my local pond. which was suprising, it was really cloudy and windy, and a little cold. thanks for the videos keep em comin Roger! :D.

  • do you use any lipless crankbaits?

  • @exbassguide um when you say silver lake were at is this silver lake becaus there is one in cali but i dont no if it is it

  • @zezimawanabefriends This silver lake is in Washington state.

    Roger

  • @exbassguide ok thank you keep up them good videos

  • I was beginning to think you only used soft plastics.

  • nobody fishes crankbaits around where I am from but they work well for me

  • lol thats acually good for you, if no one uses them than the bass will see something new, like it and eat it lucky lucky you

  • I love to use crank baits for bass, that's what i have most of my confidence in. Crank baits and Frogs are my favorite ways to fish for bass. Good luck this season.

  • hey brother. i watch all of your videos, but what advice would YOU give for pre-spawn smallies, in rivers? A 3 pounder is a big one, so keep that in mind if ya got some time to holler back at me. Keep all of the informative vids coming man. i really enjoy them.

    Isaac

  • I fish points near back water areas, but still out near the curreny Look for current seams coming off points. As we get near the spawn look for small gravel areas out of the current.

    Roger

  • great videos...Roger..what is your go to bait during the WINTER ie Dec/Jan when the Bass are "not eating much"....

  • Jig & craw worm and senko baits.

    Roger

  • Roger...one more question...

for offshore/dock/off land freshwater fishing...would you prefer baitcaster or spinning reel??

Im in the market for a simple beginner baitcaster ie Pinnacle

  • the deeper i go the more i use spinning rods the more shallow the more i use bait casters.

    Roger

  • slow moving shakey head worm rig.

    Roger

  • good stuff. I wish I buy more cranks but they dont work that well in the California delta due to all the weeds and plants that grows in the water. But I do have other stuff, check out my vid. 5+

  • cranks work there and they catch big bass! Just look for riprap (rocky areas). Make sure the crank bait contacts the rocks often!.

    Roger

  • how long have you been fishing. I love your videos.

  • bass near 30 years.

  • i need help... I live in new york and i fish under alot of bridges but i catch NOTHING.. i usually use fresh clam and bunker but no luck.. i see others guys catching tons of fish, by using these crank bait things.. any reccomendations..???

  • dude, i would recomend buying LED fishing hooks. i go out fishing at night and catch hundreds. i buy mine off ebay, but i noticed some at walmart too

  • The bass tent to suspend on bridge pilings use your fish finder to see what depth they are holding. or drop your bait down 5 feet at a time and then work your bait till you find the depth they are holding.

    Roger

  • Is it ok to use a snap swivel with these? Or do you ever use them? I like to use them when I change out a lot of lures but some folks say they affect the way the lures supposed to swim. Great vids by the way.

  • I NEVER use any snap swivels on my cranks baits!

    Thanks!

    Roger

  • Thanks Roger, I spent ten hours on the water yesterday, tied a LOT of knots only hooked up one fish. But it was still a great day!!!

  • thanks this helped alot!

  • i have a bass colored crankbait, the light green with a dark green stripe down the middle. and when i hook a fish, the loose treble hook always gets snagged on the fin or under the fish's mouth. i still catch the fish but it doesnt let the fish put up as good of a fight. how could i prevent that from happening?

    thanks

  • Use a smaller rear hook. For me it is landing the big fish so if the bass gets hooked and fights a little less, cool. But a smaller rear hook will help with this problem.

    Roger

  • hey guys i need some of your knowledge to help me with my crankbaits... i got a few crankbaits that are supposed to go to 6-8 feet but theyle only go about1-2 feet why ? thanks

  • maybe because you have youre rod tip up and not down and clip off any other nots tied to the ring

  • rod position is important and line size plays a part too. try differant speeds you may find one speed will dive better than when you get it to depth slow it down and bang into stuff!

    Roger

  • That chartruse crank would work great for the reds too!

  • Ive been fishing for cats FOREVER! but i just recently started bass fishing and i fish a 3 acre pond from a john boat in summertime the water is Brown dingy with no deep cover any tips?

  • Very bright colors on your crank bait is the key. Crank baits work best early in the morning so get out early!

    Roger

  • nice arsenal..im a self professed crankbait junkie..great vid btw

  • thanks for all the info. learned alot so far. got a problem though. i am the snag king. i can probably get snagged in a bath tub. any tips on how to avaid that and any tip on how to get unstuck without loseing my stuff? thanks again for all your info

  • You replied to this video, so I am thinking you are talking about hanging crank baits. If you hang on a rock open the bait and give the lure some slack line. If its a floating bait this will help a ton. DO NOT KEEP PULLING trying to get it off the rock or snag. Move the boat to the other side of the snag and give your rod a pop. If that does not work, CARFULLY try to reel down to the bait and move the bait free. If that does not work then try a lure retriever.

  • My 2 favorite crankbaits are the Storm Wiggle Wort, and the Rapala Shad Rap.

  • just curious, what is your opinion on spinner baits? Love your videos very helpful , thanks!

  • They have there time and place.

They work very good in shallow rocks and on cloudy windy days try the edge of the lilly pads. I like fishing pilings with them.

My favorite spinners are willow with gold willow blade and silver smaller blade.

Chartruce skirts are good and black at night is good too.

    Thanks

    Roger

  • I am at a fresh water resevior and there are rocks which place should i cast my line?

  • Points and riprap points or rocks near lilly pads or weeds. Remember to fish rocks EARLY IN THE MORNING!!!!! I fish them at first light, as soon as I can see my hand infront of me :). If the cranks are not working that day switch to senko type baits!

    Roger

  • o yes forgotten to say a point i live in singapore and its a tropical country

  • thanx for the tips, i used the bandit 100 series and caught 3 good sized bass

  • Good info. nice lures.

  • i have almost the same lure except my bandit 100 series doesnt have the splatter back it just has a regular blue back and scales running down part of the sides.

  • That is one of my best picks too!!!!!!!

    Roger

  • cool vid i use the same some of the same crankbait's but spinner baits can hold a bass longer then a crankbait could

and i luv the new gulp alive it gives the fisherman what he needs i record bass was 8.6Lb still cool vid

  • Great vids I watch them all of the time. I am 16 and I've been fishing all of my life. For a lake that doesn't have many rocks, more of vegitation. What should I do?

  • stay around the banks

  • bang the crank bait in to stumps or pilings. Try a boat ramp they alway have bass around.

    Roger

  • @ohhnoah Spinner baits, buzzbaits and lippless crank baits all work very good.

    Roger

  • dude your awsome im almost 13 and iv benn fishin all my life i used to live in fl and i would catch huge bass i got into ultralight bass fishin and it was awsome u should try it but what i love about fl was all the sharks lol well thanks for all the tips subscribe thanks ttyl=}

  • thanks for the tips man but i need some more on crankbaits so if u get some more time can u do one thanks i would realy like it if u could

  • Crank baits work best late spring till late fall. Try to start with a plastic worm and finish up with a crank bait when fishing a good spot. Some bass will not hit other baits but slam a reaction bait like a crank bait.

    Roger

  • Thank you!!

  • i ordered the bandit 100 series crankbait earlier today in the baby bass color. you think it will be a good bait? thanks.

  • @07HONDA400EX07 It will work but I have had my best luck on the blue back chartruce sided bait.

    Roger

  • Thanks for the tips, they're much appreciated.

  • i have been checking out your videos, your a smart man when it comes to this stuff i agree with alot you say that bandit 100 in dirty water around rocks and wood is killer

  • is it better to get a crankbait, that runs a little shallower than the depth you are fishing, or one that runs deeper?

Say the depth is 8 ft, would it be better to get one for 6-8 ft, or one for 8-10 ft?

  • it better when the bait is banging around the bottom, so deeper is normaly better.

So 8-10 is better to answer your question.

    Thanks for asking!

    Roger

  • With that in mind, what kind of line do you use? I heard to not use higher than 10-12 because the crank wont reach it's diving depth, and braid isnt really a good option at my lake because its very clear water. But then I dont feel very comfortable chucking a 10 dollar bait near cover on just 10-12 lb test?

  • @cameltoejoe69 Try lines like "Stren Magnathin" It is thinner than other lines so if you fish 12 test, Magnathin you can fish 14 lb test with the same diameter line.

    Roger

  • woohog, I know it's been a long time since you posted this, but try and grab a crankbait that is intended for deeper water than what you are fishing.

If the water is around 8ft, try and get a crank that dives from 10ft plus. This will help you reach and bang the bottom.

  • i do all that stuff, butt thnx.

  • i hate crank baits! idk why, it might be because i fish in a little pond, and its only like 3.5 deep. wats a good crank bait for a small shallow pond?

  • try to find a crankbait made to swim at around 2-4 feet and swim it through the brush and rocks.

  • lipless

  • The bandit crank bait is very good for shallow water. You can see one in the video is is the splatter back one.

    Roger

  • I only got a rattle trap and have not caught anything with it. Maybe its the technique but I will keep trying. Its silver and black. What do you say would work best for clear water? I am fishing for Largemouth and Peacock bass.

  • just reel the ratltrap in quickly u will catch em...listen to his tips to

  • you should have more than just a ratltrap

  • with clear water natural looking baits (baits that look like fish). try fishing early too. I like the bandit best.

    Roger

  • hey any tips on using ratltraps?

  • The big thing most people do with ratltraps is fish them over weed and if you hang the tops of the weed pop it free, that is when the bass will wack the bait! They also work good covering deeper water.

    Good luck!

    Roger

  • ty!

  • nice crankbaits

  • I really like those Lucky Craft RC cranks. They have done great for me.

  • rapala is the best crankbait proven

  • I think lucky craft will outfish a rapala most of the time. Use what you like but do not stop trying new things. That is how you find your new favorite lure.

    Roger

  • ya i think so to. but i think a strike king crankbait will out fish them both! haha there all good though

  • where do you get the crank bait at and whats the best kind out there

  • Bass Pro Shops, online, or at your local Longs Walmart, I would reccomend looking for

Luhr Jensen Speedtraps, I have had great success with them, for others ask around

  • the two I like best is the "Bandit" Crank bait in the "100 series" & the lucky craft crank baits. The they have a square bill that bangs off the rocks very nice and it catched big bass my best in about 7 lbs 5oz. I also Like the lucky craft cranks but I have landed many good bass on the bandit! Crank baits work best EARLY in the day and on windy days. fish rocks at the crack of dawn!!!!!!!

    Thanks for asking!

    Roger

  • i just bought a new one to

  • i just bought some bomber crankbaits today

  • are the bombers better than speedtraps?

  • I caught my biggest bass on a crankbait it was a mans 1 minus which is like a topwater crankbait

  • thanks

  • Nice setup very well Organized . I like the red/black power worms (I have seen big bass landed using them). I like that you keep your hooks separated from your soft plastic baits! You need to try 3 inch senkos for drop shot and wacky rigs. Great job! I am impressed! Roger

  • wat do you look for in a crankbait rod

  • I look for a rod that has a LITTLE softer tip. When the bass takes it and the rod will load up and hook more bass and it will not get hung in the rocks as much. Some use fiberglass rods.

    Roger

  • what do you think about cabelas fisherman series

  • I'm sure they are fine. If you like them and you catch fish on them stick with them. But keep trying new things you may find something better!

    Thanks

    Roger

  • were i fish there is a ton off moss and "see weed" beds and i cant use a crank bait in some places is there any that only go like 2 feet down?

  • i need some crankbaits

  • whats a good bait that will skip across the top of the water over weeds if so

  • Tube jig (gitzit) or a senko work very good for skipping. If you are skipping with weeds on top of the water, try lowering the angle and pick up the speed a little. Good luck!

    Roger

  • what is your favirote crankbait company for largemouth bass

  • i like bomber,thats all i use

  • Bandit and lucky craft are good for me!

  • rapala all the way

  • I fish at Silver Lake Ca. It's a cold water mountain lake with trout fishing. It's beautiful there just south of Tahoe.

  • Sounds nice!

  • Besides crank baits what are some other tackle box essentials

  • Jigs, senko, buzz baits, tube jigs, spinner baits, top water baits.

    My top baits are:

    Senko

    Bandit crank bait

    Buzz bait

    tube jig

  • Thanks for the tips. Really nice colors you got there. Ima go out and try some crank baits and Ill let you know if I catch anything.

  • i love this channel!!!!!

  • silver lake in bucksport maine?

  • No This Silver Lake is in Washington state Cowlitz co.

    Roger

  • since you got me burning in cranks last year, i produce alot more quality fish on cranks. blue splatter back is by far my favorite bandit 100 color.

  • The L.M. bass is 9 lbs 0oz From Silver Lake

The bigger smally is 6lbs 4oz Hagg lake Oregon

The other smally is 4lbs 10oz Hagg lake

My biggest smally form the Columbia River is 5lbs 1oz
