I remember when one of these metros got crushed by accident at a plant crossing not far from me about 16 years ago by one of those terex tipper truck things, amazingly the occupants (a mother and child) weren't killed. It was in all the papers along with pictures of what was left of the car once they were cut free, looked like it had ran over the part where the back seats are, thankfully they were not occupied at the time.

I've crashed a Metro at 35 MPH into a lamp post and the car took the impact amazingly well considering its an 80's development. I walked away from the crash unscathed. It impressed me enough to buy another anyway.

Also, that car was a product of British industry. If this is how you feel about the products that your country produces, then our economy is fucked. The government has already proved that the finance industry does not provide a stable economic foundation. Look at Icelands economy...

I have had the pleasure of putting a track over quite a number of cars with a Leopard 1 and they did absolutely bugger all to the Leopard!

it would have possibly damaged the track if the car had all its guts still in it, id be surprised if he didnt have bits of car round the suspension after that lol

The only thing that we removed from the car before crushing was the battery, it prevents starting a fire. The engine and gearbox were all still in it. As for getting the track off sometimes it can take a long time to peel the car off the tracks. I am hoping to get a film of that next time we do a crush so keep watching.

It wasn't as good as the Mk1 Nissan Micra, which was launched in the UK in 1983.

By 1987 or so, the Metro was out of date. Fiesta & 205 were ahead. It didn't get a 5 speed box until late '89. I'v been in a K-Series Metro and was impressed by it's ride, handling & engine but by 1990, that wasn't enough. Crash worthyness was creeping into people's requirements and the Metro/100 was very poor in that respect.

there is one great thing about them metros..... EXCELLENT gas mileage, my cousin got one and he gets 56 mpg in the city and 64 mpg on the highway and i told him to use SPLITFIRE spark plugs...it works fantastic
