Some people just don't get her off-beat witty sense of humor. And her comments were in a context where they would be understood as not serious. She doesn't think Katy "stole" her song -- the songs are completely different. Jill was absolutely joking.
Just because some dikey folk singer in the 90's made a song on the topic of kissing girls doesn’t give her intellectual property of the idea. I saw her (Katy Perry) with my own eyes admit that it was about one of her best friends at the time who was a lesbian, who had introduced her to some great music she never heard before due to her somewhat sheltered Christian upbringing, that she kissed. She said that while she is completely straight, she did like it, and wrote a song about the experience - which she had while dating someone, I believe it was Travie McCoy, but I am not sure.

@Rhaxma Well, there are several stories out there. First Perry said she was inspired to write the song while flipping through a magazine but never really kissed a girl. Then she claimed she did in fact kiss this friend of hers and that was the inspiration for the song...who knows what the real deal is!?!

She DID write the song and the record label told her she shouldn't make the song a single. And she's not even with Virgin Records, she's with capitol records. It's called research.
