According to Sugata Bose, this statement is oversimplification of Indian/ specifically Bengali emotions. (Ref: His Majesty's Opponent: Subhas Chandra Bose and India's Struggle against Empire by Sugata Bose and other. He also told this many other times during interviews and writings.)

But one thing I just want to share a note that He never told 'Tum mujhe khoon do, mein tumhe azadi doonga' (You give me blood, and I promise you freedom)'.

Even I knew and hv been reading this since my childhood and shocked to find its wrong. What He actually told was ' Delhi is calling. Blood is calling to Blood' and He also told 'Blood Brotherhood for Purna Swaraj in India' along with Gandhiji told that time 'Rivers of Blood'.

And also I want to mention one line from Nirad C. Chaudhuri, i'm not quoting coz i don't remember word by word but it was something like Subhaschandra was the greatest Bengalee and he never adulterated his idealism with that of Gandhi's contaminated chivalry. He sacrificed His life for his own strong and true belief. And in history of the Nation, you won't find another example like this.
