Just use pain.net, or Photoshop, remove the background, and save it as a png. Png handles transparency.

I would not use this technique to key out the background. I suggest NOT using the presets - use the eyedropper for best results. Sony has a good chroma key plugin but often has a tendency to leave you with a jagged edge (if you zoom in and carefully examine your subject). You should use your RGB and HSL sliders to fine tune your key as well as your upper and lower threshold adjustments. Click on your "Show mask" to verify your not damaging your image and also keep an eye on your edges.

i do animation with sonyvegas9 and i use the chroma keyer for the characters. I draw the characters with a green background and put them on a seperate video track on top of the background track and key out the green. it saves the work of not having to draw the characters actions with the background in the way.

Thing is, what if there is no actual green screen but you still want to use another background? Because I heard that, with some difficulty, you can select an object or a range of colours to keep and then leave the rest to become a background of your choice.

after you used chroma keyer the green bits are transparent, so you can just put any other background under the clip.

about the ipod thing: the only opportunity i know is to mask yourself, use brightness and contrast, put the brightness to 0 and than put a blue, ect... background under it.

Search for some tutoriols. I learned everything by my self :P. Just try things .

If you're looking for 3D effects, you can find them easily through google. Digital Juice has a lot of samples you can download with FireFox after installing "Download Helper 4.4.1"

But they are pretty small.

If you have a video where the main foreground objects are not moving, then you can also Mask the area you want transparent and place the new video below the masked on in Vegas.

The reason why editors use (green) and (blue) for this effect is because those are the colors that are furtherest from human skin tons. They don't have a "red screen" because that color is predominant in human faces.

Bluescreen blue is the least "human" color so its generally used and green a close second.

Redscreen was used in Visual Effects on some miniature work because you could pull a tighter matte.

Yellow(sodium vapor beam-splitter) was used by disney with some success in the 50's-70s.
