thanks for posting this. i never saw it when it aired. It's nice to see a reporter coming at this subject with an open mind. plus it was nice to see the mention of Saku :)
I think of How Royce was when Matt Hughes had him in that one submission and he didn't even tap when the average fighter would, and the fight wasn't stopped either. That's why I respect the Gracie Family, I also Highly respect Miletich and MFS.
Finally a commentator that calls the sport MMA instead of Ultimate Fighting. You dont know how many times I've seen people say," I train UFC" or "Is MMA like UFC?"
Miletich is a fucking cock...He always has a go at British fighters for there lack of wrestling skill.... funny how he wasnt at MMA Live after 114 to comment on Hathaway`s destruction on Sanchez.
@wetwilly0 It depends how you read it. I was born in Australia, but do not classify myself as an Australian and many other people are the same. I carry my fathers surname, I speak his language fluently, so thats what I am. Its the blood.
besides if he did tap whats the point, he might as well keep fighting because his arm is broken at that point, but its ok most of the time to tap, it probably save you
Super journalism, he even joins the training a bit. That's comitment. The is the only good interview/piece on MMA that depics the sport the way I think it is. Good job 60 minutes!
If Fadj honestly thinks he could beat Miletich, and I think he is only joking, then he is sorely mistaken. He could not even survive a typical Wednesday sparring session at the Miletich gym. Not a chance. This is assuming traditional sport rules. Then again, if Pat had no rules you would also be toast. You could win if you had a gun and Pat did not.
Well, maybe if Pat had some Krav Maga training and was in reach he could do the disarm. If you just shoot Pat, he will probably go down. Then again, if anyone could block a bullet, he could.
pitbul 103 thats real man. im feeling what ur saying. this is a great video. its gud how gracie isnt trying to convince any1 that fightings right. he just knows that is human nature. great video. thanks very much mate
Remember though. It was Renzo one of the Gracie's that tought Bj all he knows about BJJ. You gotta give him respect. Maybe if Renzo wasnt as old as Bj the fight could of went the other way............
Just finished Sam Sheridan's wonderful book called The Fighter's Heart, and the reasons for fighting are complex. Fear, bad upbringing, appreciation of an art, meanspiritedness. There are so many reasons, but perhaps the biggest is the need for men to test themselves and answer the question: How tough am I? The truth is that there are no undefeated MMA fighters. There is no invincibility, but these fighters thirst for it. It's complex, to be sure, but it's also FUN, which can't be denied.
Thanks. I spar because I am frankly bad at it. People tell me otherwise, but the first time I got hit hard, even with head gear on, I was shocked at how dizzy and disoriented I got. There is also the fear of getting beaten up and that "testing" aspect in a world that has been largely defanged of its dangers. In Krav Maga, you address those dangers three times a week and it challenges you in a way that hacking at a computer can't come close to.
Totally right man. One point I trained boxing, and was beginning to spar when I found out I had a pretty serious eye condition. Boom, sparing over, boxing goal over. I had wanted just 1 fight, enough to know what it felt like, just 1 (maybe more lol) to truly "know" something about myself. Through the years though I made my fight with my condition and have come back and have re-focused in careers to work with vis impaired people. Renzo is right you can find the fight in everything you do.
Go climb Mt Everest while someone is trying to beat you up. That's fighting. Both activities are similar. There is no rational reason to climb Everest. Everest is nothing more than a challenge, and we all need challenges. It's true that some guys define themselves by their toughness. I am not one of them. It's also true that some climbers define themselves by the peaks they have bagged. Fighting is just another sport and/or activity. There is also a practical self defense aspect to fighting.
Not really. They are both different challenges, different struggles. People who compete and succeed in their sport deserve respect. Yet it seems you neither fight or have climbed a mountain so be quiet while the men speak.
