This movie got a lot of reactions from me but I kind of felt for her in a way like sad to the extremes she went to, and how she suffered in silence trying to conceal the truth from her partner and everyone around her. It's like you knew she was suffering. Great movie

wow!! is all i can say. the acting is incredible. the actress must have had a hard time preparing for this role. i love all the raw, natural sounds in this film. from her waling to the bathroom so her drinking her water to her playing with her flesh, to the cracks made when shes balancing herself in the mirror. its really disturbing, but its supposed to be. the most disturbing that ive ever seen in a movie.
I think that's what frightens me: To loose control or even to get seriously hurt or even to die by something that's supposed to make you feel better or at least to enable you to bear the situation.
that was wrong again: It's about getting back your own body - step by step - even by making a sacrifice - not necessarily - and if you spoil it - THEY will take control - hospital - mortuary -

It's not supposed to be about self-injury in the way most people do it. The protagonist is trying to reconnect with her physical body after realising in a strange way how physical pain isn't "real" and so the body is an object. Not out of any emotional pain.
I think this movie speaks to everyone who ever had experiences with self mutilation. For whatever motivation you do it - you end up with a bunch of very "philosophical" questions.(If you like it or not.) I don't think that people who are doing it out of emotional pain are doing it plainly out of emotional pain - but rather to get in touch with their pain. To get in touch with your pain, your body, your very property.
I agree with you - but I don't think it's such a big difference.
It's more than just speaking about self mutilation too though. The director/actress is well versed in film theory and this entire movie is a reversal of the 'male gaze' concept that is all too common in slasher/horror flicks. This film is genius in all its technical planning.
I agree completely - but why shouldn't a good movie not also reflect reality? I don't see any contradiction there. The other way around - that cinema, the production of images is influencing life - I think that's a given too.

self-mutilation in movies is mostly more shocking for me than other kinds of violence or torture scenes (exception: Salo - there are others...). Even if it gets really grotesque (Cutting Moments, Naked Blood), I have problems to make this "it's-only-a-movie"-filter work properly.

The film is a document that describes a person that takes a walk on her dark side and decides not to come back.
There are questions but no answers.
The dark side of a single person can vary a lot (serial killer, pedophile, cannibal...) so I think you will find this film interesting only if self-mutilating is a potential part of your dark side.
One of those films I rated 10/10 - but like Seul contra tous - I will never watch again.
