  • Manny Klein could well be the lead trumpet, since he could imitate just about everyone. Jimmy D is definitely on clarinet and alto, Hank Stern indeed on brass bass, but I'm unsure about the piano player. The drummers don't sound like Berton or King, could it be a very young Krupa? And I don't hear a banjo but a guitar, so that could be Carl Kress.

  • @syncopeter Thank you for helping with the band personel. It may be a Sam Lanin group. Its a nice sound!

  • Lovely vid for a great tribute...

  • I think Mannie Klein is quite possible for this session because he was with Lanin at least from August 1929 to July 1930.

  • According to Rust, who is not always reliable with the recording dates, this was recorded on January 3, 1930 and not in 1929. Rust might be reliable if it comes to Annette because he has a lot of expertise particularly on this singer. Also "The Online 78 rpm Discographical Project" (I'm sure you'll find that website) gives that date. The line-up of this session is not in Rust. However, there is a line-up of Sam Lanin's previous session on August 29, 1929.

  • @Atticus70 This is what Rust says: Sam Lanin dir. probably: Manny Klein, another, t / Tommy Dorsey, tb / Jimmy Dorsey, another, cl, as / cl, t; Arthur Schutt, and another, p / Tony Colucci , bj / Hank Stern, bb / d (neither Vic Berton nor Stan King, the usual Lanin drummers at the time) / Irving Kaufman (as GEORGE BEAVER or CHARLES DICKSON on some issues), v. New York, August 9, 1929. *** August 9 not August 29 as mentioned in the previous post...

  • @Atticus70 Thanks so much for researching the jazz information on this side. I do so appreciate your help! If the musicians arent listed then thats what we deal with. Manny Klein does sound reasonable. He was a strong trumpet lead and this tune has that. The clarinet behind the vocal sounds alot like Jimmy Dorsey to me also!

  • It says,"Screen songs way old, even grandma cant remember"! LMAO You got some humor dude! Had to come see my pretty baby girl Annette do her stuff again. This is just great!

  • Annette was a great performer, she recorded many songs its such a shame she gave up in her twentys. and thats what makes her special.

its great that some future merchandise has brought her back including a game called Bioshock & a film called Sita sings the blues.

  • @Cresantstar Thankyou! I appreciate your comments! If only she were still alive today to enjoy her big comeback! Im sure she would be thrilled, and also be grateful to you for how nicely you have promoted her songs!

  • This is very good! What software are you using for your vid? It almost seems like several programs to me. I like the effects at the start and your spinning cube effect of Annette's photo. Thanks for the great post!

  • Is this ever great. I just love it all. It makes me wanna try one too. Thanks 2reeler for the great tribute!

  • @2reeler GOD BLESS YOU FOR ADDING THE "Paper Moon " SEQUENCE! I JUST LOVE THIS VIDEO!!!

  • Great 1920's tune, wonderful pictures of Annette, and a very creative video. This was very enjoyable.

  • @maynardcat Thanks for your swell compliment! Annette made so many fine records from the jazz age. Such happy times. I hope this brings you a share! Be sure and see my other Annette video, you may like its slower but catchy 1930 style!

  • Love this! Instant colorizations! Amazing. Lots of surprizes. I am wild about your pic of Annette at the mic! Rocks my world! I will pay you $10 dollars for an 8 x 10 photo of it!! I see Annette is saving a spot next to her on that paper moon, just for me!

  • @JukeJointHop Wait a minute! I thought Annette was saving that spot for ME! ;) Thanks alot for your interest in the picture. I hadn't thought about having prints made. Appreciate your offer! Thanks for your nice responses!

  • At the one minute mark, Annette is wearing a hair accessory somewhat like a fan. I've never seen this photo. Is it photoshopped? In other words Annette, photo had been changed to include this accessory? I want to than you for the clever way you have changed the photos and the animation to cover the song! We all can learn from you!

  • @yogisuperman Yes, thanks. Its all for fun! I believe the photo you like at 1:00 is actually the only existing picture of Annette as her evil jazz-baby twin, Dot Dare...who made a living by singing those naughty Betty Boop songs and show tunes! ;) I love her showgirl headdress too. What a dish! :)
