  • I love the way the trumpet is used to represent the starlings (if you have seen a 'cloud of starlings' youll know exactly whats going on) and it wakes the listener up! May have had the hi fi on too loud and then got blown across the room by the brass :)

  • Still here luving it!

  • this is the difference between elbow and many other artists. they are AMAZING live.

  • This makes me cry! It is such a beautiful song. I am a bit pissed but I love it!

  • @bytesback Me thinks you could be right!

  • @3eahor3e Excellent, best thing to be obsessed with.

  • @bytesback Totally agree, thank's for uploading the songs to allow me to be here.

  • Luv looking at your cute face Guy when you sing this, then I sigh with complete satisfaction.

  • @3eahor3e Methinks I see the pattern of obsession here :)

  • know atom bomb on the world could have an impact on this song , the band are phenomenal, bombard the planet with this guys voice , so amazing , people should hear this , why so few ???

  • wow. and with the bbc concert orchestra (manchester orchestra) sublime.

  • who did the orchestral parts for this session .?genius

  • good for gloom

  • Would love to see these guys coem to NB, though I doubt it'd happen. Great music.

  • this is one of my favourite songs of all time!and the arrangement is just inspired!all that can come from the bones of a song, starts accoustic, then becomes phenomenal!!!

  • One of the most romantic songs since 1983, The Smiths - Hand In Glove being number 1 obviously

  • I love Elbow, best band ever. Last night, I saw them live in Toronto. Just absolutely amazing.

  • I could have sworn I saw Guy Garvey on the bus I was riding on in Toronto one day, playing the guitar.

  • I love the way the drummer pauses on the very last beat with his stick raised. True dedication to tempo.

  • simply brilliant!!!

  • @iohtskrause1 :O :O :O :O

  • I want a man who makes me feel the way these lyrics of Mr Garvey's make me feel. "At the top Is stopping by

Your place of work and acting like

    I haven't dreamed of you and I

And marriage in an orange grove"'

    *sigh*

  • @travelmouse SO DO I

  • love love love

    this song

  • The cameraman has such a crush on the girl with the glasses, shes in every vid I've seen so far. Nonetheless my favorite Seldom song together with weather to fly. This man's voice is godlike.

  • beautiful

  • beautiful!!!!!!!!!! so beautiful...

  • he almost sounds like coldplay a little

  • @caseyx073 wrong. Colplay try to sound like them. Will never succeed.

  • @OccultaMors They both have different styles, and I love them both. It's possible to like two things at once you know.

  • @caseyx073 These guys are SO beyond Coldplay.

  • @CherrySprings TRUE.

  • Am currently compiling a list of all my favourite fat blokes. Needless to say, he's in there somewhere. Squeezed amongst Morrissey, Ray Winstone and Timothy Spall..

  • Beautiful band, coming to my area next August!!! ( that is Switzerland...) I love that song, thank you for the video! And the voice reminds me of the excellent Peter Gabriel...

  • £10.99 FROM UNIVERSAL MUSIC,

  • God i hate pretentious little popstars like this. Keep your third rate drivel poetry to yourself and spare us all.

  • @ConmanBenitez What are your favourite bands/artists?

  • PEOPLE. THIS IS NOT FOR GRUB UP THIS IS DELICACY, JUST RELISH OF FLAVOUR. ABSOLUTELY MODERN CLASSIC.BRAVO ELBOW

  • what a tune

  • Absolute Masterpiece!.. can't wait to see these guys on saturday! :)

  • @XlilmisspollyX me2 this is really relaxing! :D and saturday 19:00 ! (GMT + 1)

  • Elbow fan!

  • This is awesome - really love it. I hope they tour and come to Vancouver!

  • Find a man thats truer than

Find a man that needs you more than I

The best lines I have ever heard in a song.

  • Staisyboylike you are obviously not a singer yourself and are talking complete shite. I saw them at the MEN and Guy was loud and fantastic.

  • I bet this was the only gig he was sipping from a bottle of WATER! Raised a glass of Guiness to us at the O2 in Dublin in March! Amazing awesome and truly adorable...

  • I was almost forced to applaud after the song.

  • 3.50 nearabouts.. that pause always got me when I heard this song

    Awesomes.

  • To be honest i love this song with all my heart, but i feel this one is off a bit. I like it the recoreded song when he says " Darling is this love" and then the orchestra goes but i feel they go to early, and it just ruins it for me.

  • Newcastle 2011. one of many highlights of the night. gotta love it.

  • @jagill2 is elbow playing in newcastle. when and where? telewest arena? really want to go and see them.

  • Saw them do this in Brighton at the weekend-stunning live performers.

Guy, do you mind if I send my husband over to you for a few lessons on heart-melting, creative sentimentality ;-)

  • this was brilliant at the O2

  • @EzyRider1000 YES! You are soooo right - I've been saying this for ages!!! I love Elbow so much - I'm going to write to them to say how much I appreciate their music!

  • This song simply could not be any better.

  • whoever dislikes this doesn't have a heart.

  • Truly amazing. Sounds great with the orchestra.

  • Sorry but for me the brass blasts ruin a good song... especially live...

  • @gkeyuk I beg to differ......the punctuation of the brass is magnificent. But I have my ears and you have yours.

  • The most beautiful song in the world. With the exception of "Bones of You." This album will be in my top 10 forever. Absolutely stunning. Guy Garvey - beautiful beautiful man.

  • The lyrics are poetry, beautiful!

  • Och to the the sea and swirling gulls and sand pipers.........

  • @Kilchattan7 Bump...This is moving and remarkable. xx

  • No-one, but no-one can touch Guy Garvey and Thom Yorke in terms of lyric writing and pure emotional power in singing. The "Spinning and diving like a cloud of starlings" bit NEVER fails to give me goose bumps. NEVER.

  • Its only the likes of bands such as ELBOW and EARTH CULTURE that have restored my faith in music these days

  • wow there were lyrics in the description...

  • Oh my....this song makes me from unknown reason cry. Find Elbow accidently by looking for some Coverversions and know I sit here for almost two hours and listen to them.

Fuck, that´s more than just amazing!

  • Best vocalist in music in my humble opinion!

  • @azbquinton I agree and if you have heard "Build a rocket boys" you will see that the rest of the world is about to get an Elbow to the face and wake up to that fact.

  • Yes Guy, this is love

  • "Darling... THIS IS LOVE!!" :)

    *Goosebumps*

  • Hahaha, when this comes on my ipod as I'm walking down the street I always jump out of my skin at the blast at the start :P Wonderful song x

  • 4:16. That is the happiness I want in my life :]

  • HMV don't list it any more! At least it is not on their website today, but Amazon have it - amazon.co.uk/Seldom-Seen-Abbey-Road-Live/dp/B002S2EFH2

  • You can get this at HMV as well, comes with the dvd and a cd of the performance

  • It got on my tits no end.

  • I got this in a double packaged cd/dvd from a promotion in england, so i am certain it is available through english suppliers mail order !?!

  • "So yes I guess I'm asking you to back a horse that's good for glue, if nothing else"

    - Guy Garvey, the new poet laureate.

What a song, and what an album, and what a band!

  • the best

  • For all those Elbow fans...check out Frederik Teige......cut from the same brilliant cloth.

  • chocopalmer there isn't enough shit in the world to occupy your brain

  • Great song, but listening to their albums you realize they'd be a greater band if they get a real guitarist, real bassist and a real drummer!

  • super

  • glad to see that elbow finally made it after many years! amazing

  • this is magic.

  • The violets explode inside me

    when I meet your eyes

Then I'm spinning and I'm diving

    Like a cloud of starlings

    Darling is this love? <3

  • Absolutely love this simple, poignant love song...the music and the choir sound like a flock of starlings look, wheeling and diving in the sky...amazing. Whoever he's singing to is one very lucky lady!!XD

  • This is the single most romantic song I have ever heard, and I'm not ashamed to admit it.

  • @DoorsAreSecured Nor should you be...

  • @DoorsAreSecured I completely agree! Wept when I listened to this song this morning (and I've heard it 30 times). Seeing them in LA this Saturday!

  • @allrytie I was lucky enough to see them in Atlanta last Tuesday... prepare to be amazed

  • @Glubags Saw em in atlanta too man, wow that was an amazing show, perfect venue

  • @MrAlexhartness Drove six hours to see them and it in Atlanta was totally worth it - definitely going back next year.

  • @allrytie I was lucky enough to see them in Atlanta last Tuesday... prepare to be amazed

  • 'The Seldom Seen Kid' was always a brilliant album for me but never really got into this song until I heard this version. Thanks for the upload; the album is now one of the favourites of all time.

  • I'm really not surprised the brass section had to wear ear defenders when they played those big notes at the beginning... I've heard the album a thousand times and I sitll crap my pants during this song.

  • why is the drummer in a chamber of his own?

  • @guitarlampclock Cos nothing else can contain his awesome

  • @guitarlampclock google 'microphone bleed'

  • @aybee77 you can buy this album from play.com . elbow seldom seen kid live for 11.99. god

  • @aybee77 now im really cheesed off , just received this album and god wont let me play it

  • This gets better every time

  • sublime!!!! On ne peut que se taire et écouter!!!

  • This is absolutely phenomenal, turn it up.. goosebumps ..

  • I would die to get these in CD or DVD

  • @Aybee77 You can get this in france from amazon.fr, please send the video of you dieing when you have it :)

  • @bytesback No kidding ! Thanks for the tip and prepare yourself from getting my suicide video !

  • @bytesback how to send a video when you're dead?

  • @Luistervink Ah, that's a good point ! Perhaps she could get a kind relative to send it in, or maybe broadcast it over live the net !

  • @bytesback i would die to see a video of him dying when he gets the cds.

  • @bytesback @Luistervink @Aybee77 Ha ha ha ha! This is one of the funniest youtube conversations I've seen in a while!

  • @Aybee77 just got mine through today, it was £6 from play.com (although they promised me a dvd with it which didn't come :/)

  • @Aybee77 Go on elbows website and you can get this at £10.99 better then spending over £30 on amazon

  • @Aybee77 iTunes, look up "the seldom seen kid"

    Great album :D

  • @Aybee77 I bought this on cd 12 months ago where do you live uganda!

  • @marcokango that made me laugh m8

  • @Aybee77 I bought it last year in England in a shop (don't remember the name anymore)

  • @ 4:19 is the drummer crying

  • magic, the most talented band of the last few years, sheer musicality

  • my fav song!!!!!!

  • Thanks bytesback.

  • Ah yes, I am a fool! Profound indeed.

  • ...darling is this love?

  • You're everything in every room you are ever in.

    Guy, I'm yours!

  • @MadameCholet1 No your not ! He might get upset about you getting the lyrics wrong........."You are the only thing in any room you're ever in"

But it is a very simple but profound line ! Glad you enjoyed it :)

  • Absolute perfection.

  • They should make it mandatory that all bands play with an orchestra and choir all the time.

  • These guys are awesome!! Great lyrics, Even better melody.. They are truely original, love his voice too, Very soft but strong when it needs to be... Very well done!

  • I wonder if the people in the audience really know that there are people like me that would sell one of my kidneys to be in their seat and experience the greatest music ever made. Lucky Bastards. This is music made to move your soul, to wake you from your mundane everyday lives and make you feel what's it's like to be alive. The explosion of the horn section is the way he feels when he sees her......beautiful

  • F ing awsome!

  • this is incredible :)

  • this has to be the best song ever performed, written, orchestrated...I cant believe what I'm seeing or hearing. Never heard of these guys before but a new fav. :) no song has ever done this for me and judging by the smiles on their faces towards the end they knew they nailed it.

  • I clicked on this as a link from Grounds for Divorce after being blown away by that performance.

    Was I ever surprised.

Grounds for Divorce is completely different than Starlings in both tone and general story.

Even so, another excellent song by Elbow.

  • love it. Such an emotive and raw song. Sums up that 'feeling' perfectly.

  • Wonderful song, I feel tears swelling every time I hear it. Absolutely beautiful.

  • @Crhobbit Ditto. I'm not usually moved to tears by music but this song does it to me every time. Damn thses guys!

  • ..back a horse that's good for glue....LOL spinechillingly great

  • Makes Coldplay look like Backstreet Boys...

  • Gorgeous....

  • Beautiful

  • I had goosebumps for the entire song. This is just great.

Also, watch Elbow grounds for divorce with the orchestra - it's magical

  • I do like this song, but I cant help but think it would be better without that annoying noise that plays in the background throughout

  • @Jordan3606 Quite the contrary. I think the marimba creates a beautiful flying feeling, like that of "starlings".

  • Simply brilliant.

  • To the person who said he sounded like Peter Gabriel, has he/ she heard Peter's cover of Mirrorball?

  • @debssquonk I have, and as much as I admire Gabriel he can't hold a candle to Guy Garvey this time.

  • "You are the only thing in any room you're ever in"

So simple, but it rings right through me

  • @370benton - Completely agree. To think that was written with someone in mind is sublime.

  • @370benton - yep, just that one line really sticks in my mind. It's just the most romantic thing...

  • I had goosebumps the first 5 seconds this started. Jesus.

  • I think most would agree 'bad' or 'foul' language is more an issue of useage than anything else. In this instance, as with most half-way intelligent writers, it's sincere and entirely appropriate. Don't be afraid of language and what it does to you.

  • As with music language is an expression. Personally i know just where the fuck he's coming from with song and indeed the whole album, mr garvey is a literary genius.

  • Why do some folks have to use foul language to express their views

  • To express emphasis. Because you find words as "foul" does not mean they do. Words are harmless, you're just taking them a different way than some people.

  • Because they are ignorant and arrogant. Just listen to the music.

  • 1.00 = goosepimples fucking amazing tune and album

  • They look a lot different than what I pictured, I just started listening to them a month ago, great music

  • The lyrics are just beautiful. Elbow is a perfect example of a band where I really listen to what is being said because the lyrics alone are worth putting this album on, not to mention the music itself.

"You are the only thing in any room you're ever in"

"I sat you down and told you how

the truest love that's ever found

    was for oneself

    You pulled apart my theory

With a weary and disinterested sigh"
