This reminds me of a Cambodian dish I had several months ago; it was a plate full of raw vegetables (many of which I had never seen before and couldn't name) with a kind of paste on the side.

The paste was made from pickled fish among other things I could not identify. Anyway, the idea was similar; you take the raw vegetables, spread the paste on, and eat it with some rice. Being that cabbage is one of my all time favorite vegetables, I found that the cabbage tasted the best. This is a pretty pointless comment; I'm sorry. ;)
