@namrepus6 The keyword in that was "magic". Captain Marvel's been able to go up against the likes of the Spectre... and as Marvel pointed out, magic is something Supes has a lot of trouble against. That's why Captain Marvel is able to fight Superman to draws: His magic is enough to weaken Superman, even though Sperman still has the advantage of range.
Ultimately, it comes down to who outsmarts the other. As a fan of both, I say they're equally matched.

As far as the Superman vs Cap Marvel argument, they are equally matched physical strength-wise. The only thing is that Superman also has ice breath and heat vision. Cap. Marvel has a slight edge though because he's powered by magic which Superman is weka against. Also he has wisdom of Solomon.

Going by the old RPG stats, Cap beats Supes more often...but still, it's a very close fight.
Supes is stronger (Shift Z compared to Cap's Shift Y) and has some long range weapons (laser eyes, cold breath). But Cap's magic/god status allows him twice the fighting skill as Supes.
It's like an average super heavy weight (Supes) fighting the champion heavy weight (Cap). Example: Brock Lesnar vs Cain Velasquez. Brock can win, but the edge goes to Cain due to skill.

Most of the time, the fights between CM and Superman end on dubious circumstances at best. DC may favor Superman as being more popular, but comics time and time again have shown that they are equals in terms of power. Plot device such as being possessed by Eclipso, sucker punching, or the Power of Shazam being split three ways between the Marvel Family usually play a role in how one of them "beats" the other. I can't remember an instance in where one cleanly beat the other w/o plot device.

His intelligence is great and he's superb at fighting but there's no logic in him being able to stand toe-to-toe with some of the foes he's gone up against. Hell, Hawkman SHOULD clean his clock. @KingCharltonHeston DC Comics will be revamping the Marvel Family within the next year. I've heard that 2011 will be the year of the Marvel Family. We will have to see if this remains true though. To be honest I have to say Superman is almost unbeatable but the to Superheroes who could actually beat him are definately Batman (with his gear of course) and The Flash (Wally West).

@nottoberemembered Wally West (Flash) isn't knowledgeable enough to be able to do what you're suggesting. Superman would beat him quickly, as he'd have to because once Flash is moving, it would be hard to put a stop to him. That said, Supes is very fast. He and Wally raced in the comics before and Supes lost only by the merest of seconds. Now Barry Allen (the current Flash in the comic books) could probably give Supes all kinds of trouble. Read up on him!
I was referring to the current flash in my comment, and now with his ability to drain peoples speed he should be able to defeat superman, as for kryptonite if it was necessary I have no doubt flash has the speed to find some. The problem about the flash is that on a day to day bassis he sucks, espacially in cartoons as he is often a comic relief character however when its needed in the cartoons or comics flash has shown near unlimited power where superman shows consistent power.
@ToddS15 Supes has been knocked out by other characters as well. Darkseid, Doomsday to name a few. Wonder Woman and the Martian Manhunter could do so as well. In the Sacrifice storyline, Wondy slits his throat with her tiara. They also fought in WW (vol. #2) issue #175. No knockouts but you could see then they were fairly evenly matched. All of this said, I do not believe he could definitely beat him but she'd stand as much of a chance as Captain Marvel, if not a better one.

Check out the Infinite Crisis trade paperback to see this fact. I'll give you that Barry Allen wasn't "back from the dead" at that time and I often wonder where Green Lantern Hal Jordan stands in their current power ranking. If you are referring to the fight they had in a Justice League cartoon episode, Superman DID win that fight. Once he realized that C.M. was using magic-based powers, he stopped Billy Batson from saying Shazam. That ended the fight. I can't remember if he ever won in a fight in the comics unless it was when Superman fought an Eclipso-possessed Captain Marvel. At least I think Eclipso had C.M. once and Superman stopped that. Do you have any more clips from Public Enemies that we can get?

@2submit - In the movies, yes he always uses the bare minimum of power in his punches in his fights, since he doesn't want to kill anyone. Same thing in the DVD cartoon movies probably. I can off-hand only think of two enemies that he has fought at full power - Doomsday and Imperiex. And possibly Brainiac 13 and the Superman Cyborg guy. If he fought people at full power, the majority of them would be killed in one punch. So that is something that he is not willing to risk doing.
@GTidmore1 Supes does pull his punches...he only fights with full stength beings capable of going toe-to-toe with him. That would be Doomsday, Darkseid, Imperiex, Braniac and the Cyborg-Superman. I'm of the belief that none of his allies have ever witnessed him go full power, as only Cap Marvel, Wonder Woman and Martian Manhunter would be able to fight one one one.

I've watched this movie and still don't know how Superman and Batman managed to walk away from the fight. They were losing and then suddenly the next scene they're wearing their clothes. WTF?!
As far as the Superman vs Cap Marvel argument, they are equally matched physical strength-wise. The only thing is that Superman also has ice breath and heat vision. Cap. Marvel has a slight edge though because he's powered by magic which Superman is weka against. Also he has wisdom of Solomon.

Going by the old RPG stats, Cap beats Supes more often...but still, it's a very close fight.
Supes is stronger (Shift Z compared to Cap's Shift Y) and has some long range weapons (laser eyes, cold breath). But Cap's magic/god status allows him twice the fighting skill as Supes.
It's like an average super heavy weight (Supes) fighting the champion heavy weight (Cap). Example: Brock Lesnar vs Cain Velasquez. Brock can win, but the edge goes to Cain due to skill.

@vibhutesagar ...Actually, Lex is president and he forces the heroes to register and fight directly for the country. Every hero and villian agrees, villians cause Lex is evil. Heroes, because, Lex made them think he was good, when in fact he was evil. Which is why Superman and Batman did not register. THAT'S...why, they didn't fight.

Most of the time, the fights between CM and Superman end on dubious circumstances at best. DC may favor Superman as being more popular, but comics time and time again have shown that they are equals in terms of power. Plot device such as being possessed by Eclipso, sucker punching, or the Power of Shazam being split three ways between the Marvel Family usually play a role in how one of them "beats" the other. I can't remember an instance in where one cleanly beat the other w/o plot device.

@PUArtista While I do indeed like the character of Batman a lot, I agree 150% with you. Even in the comics, Batman is portrayed this way. His intelligence is great and he's superb at fighting but there's no logic in him being able to stand toe-to-toe with some of the foes he's gone up against. Hell, Hawkman SHOULD clean his clock. Supes would rip him a new one is two seconds flat!!!

@KingCharltonHeston DC Comics will be revamping the Marvel Family within the next year. I've heard that 2011 will be the year of the Marvel Family. We will have to see if this remains true though. They have already brought back Shazam (the wizard) and it appears Black Adam and Isis are on their way back too. Now we need Billy, Mary and Freddy to go back to what they once were.

I really don't care for Captain Marvel, and I firmly believe that Superman is the strongest DC hero. He can move planets. But, I am not a big Superman fan either. Batman is my favorite hero of all time.

Hell, Batman would find a way to beat Flash (I'm speaking of Wally West; Barry Allen is another story) and Supes could fire a beam of heat vision from space and fry Batman. Neither Bats nor Flash can beat Supes unless they manage to have Kryptonite handy (Bats would have some stashed). Why are people underestimating Supes? He's DC's top hero, hands down!

I reckon Flash could beat superman, I mean superman wouldnt even be able to touch flash and even if he could get a grip on the flash he would just vibrate himself out (that sounds dodgey!) and in any case I dont think it would be hard for the fastest living thing alive to find some Kryptonite or vibrate his hand through supermans brain or even just grabbing supermans head and shaking it until brain soup came pourring out the nose and when Flash uses his full power he's invincible.

Superman isnt that damn slow compared to the Flash, and vibrating himself isnt something he can simply do without risk to
himself.
Also you forget he's invulnerability, I doubt he can vibrate though sups as easily as he could a wall or normal human.
Also I dont believe shaking he's hand would give him much more then a headeck.
Lastly the Kryptonite.........you dont just find those laying around you know, their a super rare -__-

@nottoberemembered Wally West (Flash) isn't knowledgeable enough to be able to do what you're suggesting. Superman would beat him quickly, as he'd have to because once Flash is moving, it would be hard to put a stop to him. That said, Supes is very fast. He and Wally raced in the comics before and Supes lost only by the merest of seconds. Now Barry Allen (the current Flash in the comic books) could probably give Supes all kinds of trouble. Read up on him!

I was referring to the current flash in my comment, and now with his ability to drain peoples speed he should be able to defeat superman, as for kryptonite if it was necessary I have no doubt flash has the speed to find some. The problem about the flash is that on a day to day bassis he sucks, espacially in cartoons as he is often a comic relief character however when its needed in the cartoons or comics flash has shown near unlimited power where superman shows consistent power.

@ToddS15 Supes has been knocked out by other characters as well. Darkseid, Doomsday to name a few. Wonder Woman and the Martian Manhunter could do so as well. In the Sacrifice storyline, Wondy slits his throat with her tiara. They also fought in WW (vol. #2) issue #175. No knockouts but you could see then they were fairly evenly matched. All of this said, I do not believe he could definitely beat him but she'd stand as much of a chance as Captain Marvel, if not a better one.

@nottoberemembered The current Flash is Barry Allen and he's better than Wally West. That said, even he cannot beat Superman. DC Comics has stated as much. Supes is No. 1, Wonder Woman is No. 2. Check out the Infinite Crisis trade paperback to see this fact. I'll give you that Barry Allen wasn't "back from the dead" at that time and I often wonder where Green Lantern Hal Jordan stands in their current power ranking. The fact is, DC has said Supes, Bats and Wondy are their Holy Trinity!

Of the three, Cap and Wondy would be the only two who stood a real chance of stopping him. Now, if Supes would stop being the Big Boy Scout, none of them would be able to hold a candle to him.

If you are referring to the fight they had in a Justice League cartoon episode, Superman DID win that fight. Once he realized that C.M. was using magic-based powers, he stopped Billy Batson from saying Shazam. That ended the fight. I can't remember if he ever won in a fight in the comics unless it was when Superman fought an Eclipso-possessed Captain Marvel. At least I think Eclipso had C.M. once and Superman stopped that. Do you have any more clips from Public Enemies that we can get?

@2submit - In the movies, yes he always uses the bare minimum of power in his punches in his fights, since he doesn't want to kill anyone. Same thing in the DVD cartoon movies probably. I can off-hand only think of two enemies that he has fought at full power - Doomsday and Imperiex. And possibly Brainiac 13 and the Superman Cyborg guy. If he fought people at full power, the majority of them would be killed in one punch. So that is something that he is not willing to risk doing.

@GTidmore1 Supes does pull his punches...he only fights with full stength beings capable of going toe-to-toe with him. That would be Doomsday, Darkseid, Imperiex, Braniac and the Cyborg-Superman. I'm of the belief that none of his allies have ever witnessed him go full power, as only Cap Marvel, Wonder Woman and Martian Manhunter would be able to fight one one one.
