I've never been on an official tour of a favela but admit that they intrigue me, I've seen many in Sampa and Rio, you'd have to be blind not to notice them. I've seen happy, healthy children playing, just like I've seen in the hood of any U.S. city. Out of respect I avoid going inside favelas, although sometimes roads go right through them, but the people living in them don't need to be reminded of our differences. Sure, it would be risky in the day but just plain crazy at night.

They go to run down neighborhoods--some even go into houses and look around peoples houses or some will go to areas where people are living homeless and look at the people as though it is some sort of safari. Its sickening!!! And the cray thing about all of it is that these tours aren't even authorized by the city or gov't.

I've never been on an official tour of a favela but admit that they intrigue me, I've seen many in Sampa and Rio, you'd have to be blind not to notice them. I've seen happy, healthy children playing, just like I've seen in the hood of any U.S. city. Out of respect I avoid going inside favelas, although sometimes roads go right through them, but the people living in them don't need to be reminded of our differences. Sure, it would be risky in the day but just plain crazy at night.

A big problem in Brazil is the " Human RIghts". If a cop kills one of these guys, the cop is arrested for violating the Human Rights of the BAD GUY, ridiculous. @hombrelubinero I agree except that drug use/abuse is a users solution to a problem. As long as the need to escape reality is there this bullshit will be to. The fact is the war on drugs is an allopathic solution of symptoms falling short of prevention. If you were to get rid of 'drugs' what about pharmaceuticals? If we had democracy and not plutocracy (what we consider democracy) we could address root problems and not just the mere symptoms. Too many people are getting rich of dope to end it.
