I've never played this game. Is there any particular reason as to why you sometimes dodge the little color blocks but go for them other times? For example, I'm confused as to whether to the red and yellow ones are bad because sometimes you dodge but many times you also go right to them. I'm confused.

Also, reds and yellows are worth more than blues and purples, but are rarer.

Here's a general explanation.

You pick a song on your computer (or xbox) and the game generates a track to play. To earn points you have to collect and match a cluster of at least 3 blocks of the same color. The bigger the cluster, the more points you earn. The colors determine how much each cluster is worth with red being the most valuable and purple being the least valuable. So you go through the song getting points and at the end of the song, you see how other people scored on the same song.

Audiosurf is a rhythm game released by valve software testing some engine i believe.

The premise is you have to hit the right-colored "traffic" on a 3-lane highway in order to make combinations that can get you points. Red and yellow are worth more than blue and purple. The way the color of the notes is determined is by the intensity of the song. The speed is also faster/slower accordingly. The program usually initiates traffic based on the percussion. I don't see the connection between the timing of anything in the game to the music. What exactly is it "building" off of the song you use?
