The United States was founded on a system of limited representation, not on capitalism. Anyone who has actually read the constitution knows that the founders themselves sought to create a government that could regulate commerce and trade.

From Article 1, the Constitution gives Congress the right:

"To regulate Commerce with foreign Nations, and among the several States, and with the Indian Tribes".

Private ownership, which the founders supported, does not in itself constitute capitalism.
