@mmking9999 yah the japanese version had an intro, a map, and some special effects that we didn't get, for details check this video watch?v=c-lwPW9kdB8 (sorry can't put entire URL).
The Japanese version had maps and moving backgrounds (moving trees, snowfall, stage 7 pulsates). The Famicom version has a special chip with added memory to pull these things off.
@MeowsyDancer There is but it must be put in realy quick for it to work.I should know,i have the famicom version of contra it took me many trys befor it worked.Though usely i play contra without it the konami code makes it to easy.
Why was Level Removed on the NES Version of Contra O-o thank God Konami kept the Konami Code in but still...who woulda thought Level Select Exsisted in the NES Days the Famicom/NES was sure revolutionary more so then I thought
My mom used to go on and on about life in 50's Japan. Including spending all the yen she just scammed from my granddad in bodegas like the one in the intermission. So I guess they're real, she's not just being weird.
Also, did Japan get the Advantage? It totally rules for Contra. Saves you from NES controller hand-cramps.
@Teeg32 More or less, they did. The stick (including the NES Advantage, believe it or not) was made by ASCIIWARE. The same company made the Super Advantage for the SNES. On that note, Bullet Proof Software originally made the controller we know as the NES Max.
Hmm.. NES MAX, Inoko MAX.. nah, I'm not gonna say something mean about the kid. He tries at least.
Hey, was that a map I saw when he continued? That wasn't in the NES version.

He leans so far over the table when he plays shooting games! All the ones I see are probably stuck or tethered to the table for just that reason.

It isn't that popular outside of USA.

@zuschzero
It's known as the Konami Command in Japan. It's more famous in Gradius, however. Arino used it in the first season.
