while i was playing his Suite No. 2 in D Minor: Gigue, my cats both stop playing around and lay down in the couch, very peaceful songs. not just great for the human ear.
There is something about his interpretations that make it easier for me to hear the notes. It is really helping me when I look at the sheet music and listen to him playing! Great playing!
My dear teacher! Possessor of some of the finest cello technique in the world-his recordings are not too well known, but should be. His Schumann concerto is especially fine. Also, Kodaly solo sonata and Piatti caprices are perfection.
His recordings on the Piatti caprices, Kodaly sonata, and Reger are outstanding too. I wish I got to see him perform while he taught in Michigan, but this is great to see nonetheless, the pizzicato was a pleasant surprise!
You really should buy his recording of the six cello suites by Bach. They have never been surpassed by anyone in the world, -either before or after hed did them.
Go and look for the two-cd set from Danacord, DACOCD 331-332, recorded in May 1984 in Emdrup church, copenhagen. It is divine music. If you're more interested you will like the DVD "The Cello and I " where he tells us about his life and career .........in English.
