if you add salt into the solution it acts as both a catalyst and a electolite and makes the reaction go insane but dont use metals that will corrode easily cuz it also make NaOH and will oxidize anything except the metals from the platinum family!
quote :" ANY claim of fueling a car with water, and having the water converted to Hydrogen quickly enough to power a passenger vehicle is pure B.S. The bottom line is simple physics. It takes electrical energy to break the Hydrogen-Oxygen bond in water and release the free gases... and that takes time.
it's a bad news...but still the truth! gosh!!! Only way to go must be to store it in tanks with metal hydride go see their site : United Nuclear : 3wdot switch2hydrogendotcom
I agree you need something longer, it would be alot safer. Try and find some stainless steel though, post your e-mail and I will hook you up with a site. Keep up the good work, the more the better.
For demonstration purposes I'd reccomend getting some of those long matches that people use to light pilot lights so your hand doesn't get in awy of the camera. Very interesting project, a hydrogen fuel powered vehicle would be awsome.
lye sucks. its a good conductor but releases gasses that are junk. Clean energy i think is what people want. nothing less.

try lye with distilled water. others are doing good with positive and negative plates stacked

try adding sulphuric acid and copper to the water at 30v possible equation Cu+2H2O+H2SO4=3H2+3O2+CuS

i recommend you hold the steel almost touching so that it creates an electric current and the hydrogen is separaed quicker
