  • old people die off pmsl!! i agree tho gay marriage is a right!!

  • GOOD JOB!!!

    WHOOHOOO!!!!!!

  • if i could vote i would vote YES!on proposition 8 because every one shuld have right to be happy with who ever they want and if they want to get married with the person of the same sex then they should have a right to get married! I AM 13 YEARS OLD AND STRAIGHT AND I WOULD VOTE YES ON PROPOSITON 8!

  • YOUNG man, 45 is not OLD and if you realy believe that we have to wait for them to die off before we have equality then we have a long, long wait. Surely is not about waiting for the bigots to die, but about education getting through to them as it appears to be getting throught to the young.

  • i agree totally, i don't considered 45 or even 60 as'OLD', they are from a generation that we must never forget!!!

  • @marktopp well die off quicker!

  • although some good points- not all true love! be careful of using statistics and percentages- while Florida has high percentage of old folks- many of whom are in institutions and don't vote- we have a large population and several of whom are transient- many more young people are here now- we just passed Gay adoption - Hooray!!! This state is getting better all the time xoxo Greg

  • Forgot the US state of Massacussetts has gay marriage as well! The old 1913 law was repealed on 1 August 2008.

  • As of April 2009, the following countries have made SSM legal -

    * Spain

    * Canada

    * Holland

    * Belgium

    * Norway

    * South Africa

    * Nepal

    * Sweden

  • Iowa and Connecticut have gay marriage as well!

  • It is crude but true. I am considering, not watching your videos as you make me think and I have to comment. No, I will keep watching as long as you keep posting. Sorry it is late and I get stupid thoughts when it is late.

  • Sweden just legislated same-sex marriages, making it the fourth country in Europe to recognize same-sex marriages. Several states in the U.S. are considering joining Massachusetts (and Canada) in legalizing same-sex marriages. A lot is happening quickly, the dominoes are falling everywhere!

  • great video! hopefully these stupid people will come to their senses soon and gay marriage with be allowed . XOXO

  • Marriage is deeply flawed and not worth fighting for. Surely, as intelligent, independent thinking gay and lesbian citizens, we can come up with a better model for ourselves? Howard introduced the gay marriage debate with his legislation to define marriage as between a man and a woman. Prior to that, I don't recall it being seriously on the gay agenda. So the real question for me is, why did we take the bait?

  • You're insanely cute (and you make good points).

    Come to Canada! =)

  • rob i enjoyed your video but when i did clcik on it i thought it was about australia since theres not too much on here about australian gay rights and then fight so i would love it if u could make one for us aussie ;) oy oy oy

  • the statistics u have mentioned were abt america, even though u r australian!.. it would have been better, in my opinion, to mention some stats abt australia or other parts of the world if u wanted to globalize the issue!

  • But I didn't want to globalise the issue. It was a local issue, in another country. They were statistics based on the votes taken in California, Arizona and Florida, and the video was simply my comment on the result of these votes.

  • You are 100% right Robmuch. And Gay people have been fighting for years. I'm an old guy (sigh!), I remember when all my friends were terrified of being "found out" - so of them were afraid of loving their jobs, their friends, their families - and some did. But Gay people in the 1970's often used to buy the shit that bigots told us - that Gay people are sick and needed to be "cured". It took some time, but Gay people finally did away with most of it - you kids will do the rest.

  • It is just a matter of time!; )

  • The problem isnt necessarily the old people its the religious freaks.

  • What they will end up doing eventually, is take it to the Supreme Court. It is against "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" so I think they may eventually shoot all that down. At least, I hope so.

  • i wanna vote and help you gay people!!! but i'm in Philippines... hehe!

  • I think its silly how the majority of the voters that oppose gay marriage are the elders of the communities, who in theory should be more cultured and experienced. I guess this is America and not too many people arrive at that glorious state. Oh well.

  • As one of the old Floridians who voted against Amendment 2 in Florida, I still hope to see the law changed before I die off. We came close as it needed 60% to pass and they got 62%. Ultimately the US Supreme Court is going to have to overturn all these discriminatory laws. You can't have a nation where it is legal some places and not in others. Justice will prevail. Yes it can!

  • amen. we all just have to hold out for a bit longer. maybe, one day, people will understand that this is discrimination.

  • thank you for the video

    much love

  • You look older with your new hair style and beard.

  • i love that little bit of beard on your chin!

    this is such a useless comment lol

  • I think the attention was more on the main election. Had this not been such a huge election, I think that the gay rights movement and our supporters, would have created more of a voice to get people aware how important these issues are and the outcome could have been different.

    Good luck on your exams. Actually Oprah always says "There is no such thing as luck. Luck is PREPARATION meeting opportunity." So prepare as hard as you can to take the opportunity to pass that exam! :-)

  • You are awsome Rob your such a stronge person keep it up!

  • hmmmm. wait for the old people to die off.. I'm 40 so I guess I will die off soon enough but I am not against the gay issues so please mail me some geritol so I can keep on going!

  • Thanks to Rob for these important topics. ftbcustomer-I hear ya LOUD & CLEAR! Mature folks can be educated. People can change at any age. Straights, in the closets, out gays, anyone at any age can influence those around them (even OLD folks) by expressing unprejudiced opinions and making comments about fairness, and that liberty for all means to those different than the majority, gently helping others question or think about their narrow views. Obama is proof of that- signed, 40+ yr old male

  • i voted no on 102! it was voted down before i was shocked that it passed this time.

  • Prop 8 passing really made election night bittersweet considering that many of the same people who voted for Obama also voted for Prop 8. You're right though about the younger voters coming out to the polls against this discriminatory measure. It's just a damn shame it still passed and that voters seemed more concerned about giving rights to chickens and cows than they were about enshrining equality for all.

  • I understand what you are trying to say, but I am 51 and gay. If you read the hateful comments on youtube against gays, you will find that over 90% of them are from those who fall in the 18 to 29 age group. My Grandma who died at 101 was the one who helped me to accept myself--she was angry with me when I went the ex-gay route. She was awesome and very supportive. So NO, it's not about age, but rather false religious beliefs. I am a gay christian, and have been rejected by the church--not God!

  • Unfortunately it's not just being old - this junk is mostly fueled by the christian right, who have been pushing this crap for decades. What needs to happen is a clear rejection of faith-based legislation, because that's exactly what this is. It's possible that one or all of these propositions could be overturned by the Supreme Court, which is exactly what has happened in the past.

  • Wow, I'm amazed at how much you know about American politics. You even know that Florida is where old people go to die.

  • I live in California, one of the states that banned gay marriage, and everyone around us seems so anti-gay. (My mother is gay along with my best friend and aunt). Prop 8 was passed by suburban areas, all the major cities (other than Sacramento) voted against it. But of course, suburbia has a much larger population over all than any large city.

  • Thought I agree with you that it is only a matter of time, I like to point out that with the advance in medicine they will live longer (not that I want older ppls to die or anything). Also often people change their views as they get older, esp. once they start a family.

    With that said, they stats are promising signs for a better brighter future.

  • I've been waiting for that older generation to die off since I was your age but they keep lingering on.I think the frustrating thing that I found was that as some people get older they become less progressive thinking. So, even though we hope that things will change from generation to generation it's still a battle. But this is why we must keep our message of equality fresh and strong. People can't help but see the pain that unjust laws cause and will eventually change them to what is right.

  • Connecticut, one of the New England states, voted 60 to 40 percent against a Constitutional Convention, the purpose of the Convention was to put gay marriage to a vote of the people..(the Catholic Church paid for TV ads supporting the convention)..our State Supreme Court Ok'd gay marriage a few weeks ago!!!

  • nice coherent comments.

    time is on our side but still takes some of the shine off obama's historic win.

  • You're absolutely right about the older generation needing to die off in order for gay rights to come to America. Discussing this with my mother, that's exactly what she said too. The younger generation really don't view gays as the older generation do, much like the younger generation were more willing to elect a black man president (actually a biracial man, but whatever) than the older generation (who incidently never attended school with blacks due to segregation).

  • What frustrates me the most is that, once you're old and have witnessed the useless cruelty of cultural and sexual oppression for a lifetime, you them decide to become one of the oppressors.

    The fact that I don't get it, is what worries me more than the fact that these people actually exist.

    Good luck with your exam.

  • Just a matter of time, just as happened in the 60s giving other minorities their civil rights. It is sad though but until heteronormative America can begin to identify with us as regular people (instead of the spectacle so often portrayed by Hollywood and the newscasts of Pride Parades) - real people with hopes, dreams, and real lives - just like them - we'll never get our rights.

  • I am one of those old poops that will be dying off before too long....just a matter of time. I am embarrassed for being in the generation that voted to take away the rights of all those people in California and elsewhere. 18,000 already married in California alone? I can't really say that I understand why. Maybe we didn't work hard enough (my generation) to change their minds. Sure seemed like we did. I have been working for and fighting for equal rights well over 40 years.What a disappointment.

  • yep i agree, good luck for ur exam.

  • It'll change. That's what we have to keep telling ourselves. Definitely

  • That was an interesting observation. It made me feel better. Thanks Rob.

  • I was so sad about Prop 8, glad you mentioned Arkansas so many people are still unaware of it. Oh, and the mo is growing quickly! Congrats, I can only imagine what it'll look like in a week or so.

  • Not to worry Rob :-) the right wing in the US has been gutted and they aren't even bright enough to figure out why. (btw. don't depend on young voters in the US to be progressive)

    Anyway, things are going to start turning around. (((hUgS, Bruce)))

  • nice stubble

  • How do you stay so positive?

    I've been in a funk all week since Prop 8 passed,

    I went from shock, to anger, to sadness.

    I still cant get over the fact that 62% voted for the rights of livestock and then voted against the rights of people.

  • U R right on! I believe that we will achieve equality for all our rainbow community! Thanks 4 sharing u positive outlook with us! Thanks 4 the big SMile! I never even thought in my life time would i see gay marriage...but i have seen it granted and then taken away...just be means we need to keep fighting! Love&SMiles Tim

  • "Waiting on the world to change," as that John Mayer song goes, might be a better way to put it :)

  • Great vid! Liking the facial hair, looks good on ya.

    Its nice to know that people like yourself keeps up with our (USA) politics aka Gay Marriage rights

  • FUCKIN MORMONS !

  • I think that might be a little harsh. I live in Utah, Mormon Central, and honestly there are a lot of good Mormons that believe in equal rights. I think it would be more accurate to criticize the institution rather than the individual by saying Fuck the Mormon Church, but I think that may undercut the whole message of love by embracing ideas of hate. Further understanding of each other will be required before any change to take place, but change will come. Just give it some time. :)

  • *Further understanding of each other will be required before any change can take place, but change will come. Just give it some time. :)

    Damn, just when I thought I was eloquent/inspirational, grammar had to get in my way. Grrr.

  • Ur right, I was just talking about the wons who gave money and stuff. Some of my good friends are mormons ( mormons are hot ;)

    I will think again before making a blanket statement

    Tally Ho !

  • yep... thx for talking about this. i guess your right.

    In France, wedding is still not possible but i think there is equality of rights for gay couples compares to "regular" marriage.

    but not "gay marraige" ..:(

  • Wow, you're so positive about it! I'm not gay, but I was soo mad/disappointed with people that proposition8 passed. I think it's totally awful to take away a right like that that people already had. =(

    I really wish people would be more open minded. My parents are super conservative, but I've learned in life you just have to accept everyone, and prop 8 seems like a step backwards to me.

    good for you for being so positive and hopeful about it! =)
