I wish I could say that I have just the same Porsche, like the others did here, but nooo :( I don't even have a Porsche. Maybe one day... But dreams never come true. pfff (I think I'm jealous now)
btw the driver was really talented, and that 8:08 was stunning. Nice vid!
I definitely have to join my colleagues, this is a master, no super siliding, pure harmony, fast driving transformed into art. Some guys have this gift. I own a 964 Turbo 1992 modified by Ruf, to 3.6 and it is wild, but I love it.
This is what I call a real driver's machine, requiring lots of skills from their driver to actually get the true potential out of the car. Porsches own.
you really think that switching from OLD SCHOOL street tires to modern R-Comps wouldn't buy you a 9+ second improvement? (he ran an 8:08). The driver also made a couple mistakes in this run.
@yuyueyuyue Yes Sir, that's the correct way to do it in all aircooled 911s especially, the rear weight bias + no traction control requires the counter-intuitive way to drive it around the corner, like you said : give more throttle instead of letting it off to give more traction. Cheers !
tj930,your not wrong!i have been out with stefan roser round the ring..and he was amazing...goin to download it on here when i get the time!great driving...and controls its superbly..certainley banzai...
keep meaning to do it,but its still on video, and i need to transfer it..there was an article in december 1996 in performance car magazine with me in it..hes a very cool guy...turned up in a jag xj at the ring,i asked him did he do the ring a lot,he said oh yes!at least once a year!lol,i asked had he raced,he said yes ,in group c,but ...he was'nt quick enough!!!!!and enjoyed going sideways to much...i also asked what did his wife make of his driving,he said she hates it,but my son loves it..star.
I agree he is definitely over driving it a bit, but you have to realize this is a completely stock 911 turbo from back when Porsches were "real driver's cars", that is they were always trying to kill you. Also I'm sure the stock suspension isn;t set up for a track as brutal as the nurburgring.
Hehe.. The 964 turbo (1991-1994) was the last of the 2WD, single-turbocharger 911 turbos. But it did have coil-overs (rather than torsion-beam) suspension, 5-speed gearbox, hydraulic clutch, power-steering, ABS brakes and a nod towards ground-effect (with a smooth underside).
Quite sophisticated when compared to my GuardsRed Tree-seeking missile! ;o)
Amazing video. Thought he was going to break his wrists counter-steering into some of those corners. This is an amazingly skilled driver. The car speaks for itself. I have an '88 930. Never had her sideways like that. Looks like fun!! Don't worry, I'm not that stupid to think I'm that good.
I don't think this car is standard, I'm sure I saw a falme out of the wastegate pipe at the start. You don't get that. And also the original suspension is not this steady, most of us upgrade. No doubt though, impressive car, and even more impressive driver!
wow, I am stunned! Just bought the same car almost. Mine is a 1993 Turbo S with 355HP and the sports exhaust. Yours too, right evojoerocks? I will post videos soon. Wicked car. I wish I could ever drive it that fast. Great driver... Amazing skills!
Hy, Yeah I have a 1992 3,3 Turbo bone stock with 320hp, like to drive it very much. But I am not blessed with such amazing driving skills like this japanese guy. Congrats on your Turbo S, let me know when you have some videos of it. Cheers
Way impressive! Now thats a driver in the ultimate driving machine, & who needs all those sissy driving aids, PSM/ESP or even AWD! "A Real driver, doing it the Right way, in the realest place in the world"
You have to give this guy credit. He does a 8:08min turn on the Nordschleife with a 15 year old car. No PSM, no ESP, no 4WD. This needs some serious balls. And there is even construction work going on, he could have been faster.
This video was recorded on "Best MOTORing VIDEO SPECIAL VOL.21" in 1991.
This video became proof and 964Turbo had the fastest lap of Nordschleife in the 1991 fiscal year authorized.
This time and Mr.Kurosawa were called the man who got to know all Nordschleifes most in the world as a test driver of the Bridgestonen tire.
Moreover, also in the past, he broke the official score.
1989 Nissan Skyline R32GTR 8:22.fastestlap
1990 Honda NSX 8:16. fastestlap
1991 Porsche 964 Turbo 8:08.fastestlap

You can tell the car had turbo lag by the way he choses to always keep the car in a lower gear with higher revs.
He uses second gear a lot where in a more modern turbo he'd use the torque to pull him out of the corners.
A Jap driving a German in the Ring, wow, great car and driver.
Somehow today with all the GTR vs GT2 RS vs ZO6 etc you don't see that happening.

2Gtrevo 1 year ago
@2Gtrevo
This video was recorded on "Best MOTORing VIDEO SPECIAL VOL.21" in 1991.
It is the episode which measures the lap time of Porsche964turbo released newly by this time.
The lap time of SkylineGTR in 1989 and HondaNSX in 1990 is also recorded.
We recommend you to ask stock by the homepage of Best MOTORing.

The way he goes through the fast corners with very little positive steering angle - that's a drift, not all this powersliding crap.

hmm drifting costs a lot of time...
and an 8.08 isn't a great time with a porsche
i took 13.30 with my 50hp vw polo
and the record is about 6.26min... done by a porsche last year
but i've to say, he's a really really god driver, even drifting on this track is only sport for masters
Hateclaw 2 years ago
For a 964 turbo, 8:08 is a very good time.
