  • To say Dave was 86 when this was perfomed...God bless him !!!!!!!!

  • I was there, man! Right next to you when you filmed this!!

  • sound is terrible... why bother

  • Dave was in his 86th year when this was recorded ...... God bless him !

  • aaaahhh crazy clapping scared the shit outa me

  • Dave is 90 years old actually :)

  • Omg, how old are they?

  • Well, Dave is still alive and kicking. Thnx God!

  • @slavnotslave Dave is more alive than a lot of the younger generation that like to insult him and his great music.

  • c est quoi ça???

  • what song is this?

  • This song is called "Someday my prince will come". Dave Brubeck recorded this song already on his record "Dave digs Disney" in 1957.

  • oh ok thanks. yeah i kinda recognized the tune but wasnt sure. lol

  • haha yeah and i'm pretty sure Bill has been dead for more than 3 years.... ;)

  • Hahah

QuadtreroGR -"Is Bill Evans on the piano????"

    ohh man

    DAVE BRUBECK quartet............

  • Is that Joe on drums?

  • No, it's Randy Jones.

  • just saw this same quartet last night in Seattle! they were SO GOOD!

  • Where is Paul Desmond ?

  • Died May 30, 1977 (aged 52)

  • He's dead

  • Someday my prince will come!!!

  • is Bill Evans on the piano????

  • Evans used to play "Someday my prince" will come a lot, but this is probably really Brubeck. But it's clear he had been listening to Evans quite a bit :)

  • @gumbor08 Disney's Someday My Prince Will Come was originally covered by Miles and Bill Evans wasn't with him at that time....Evans may just have played this tune on his own..

  • aww the upstairs of the BPC sucks but I guess its the only place where you can get away with recording

  • lol its good but i got owned by the noise at the start

  • oh god you have no idea how I laughed when I read that

  • a goodie

  • Grandissimo.... Immenso...

  • oh my goooood! myy ears!!! What the hell is that....i will summ you! my head!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Yeah, that hurt, that opening. Plus, i had it up all the way watching a previously low volume DB vid.

  • DAve Brubeck is AWESOME!!!!!!

This is the "oldies" and I'm only 15 and even I like it!

  • completely inconsiderate. fix your LEVELS before uploading!

  • Woow I was scared at the beginning, it was so noisy :D horrible sound, but still good. :-)

  • @Gilbertjollolrofl try falling asleep to this on a playlist and being woken up thinking you're about to die 8| /goes back to sleep

  • Mine too!

  • I saw him last night at Blue Note jazz club in New York, I'll never forget!

  • Brubeck made his mark 50 years ago. He doesn't have to prove anything to anybody!

  • i thought he was dead,,,,

  • horrible sound!

  • it scared the shit out of me at the begining

  • I know what you mean :D !

  • Great great great, need no further comment. Really like Dave Brubeck.

  • oh shit! I had my head phones in and on full blast when it started and the screams were so loud my ears and head are sore az! rofl

  • Haha! Dude! Same here!

  • lolz

  • same thing X___x it hurts.

  • What? I can't hear you!

Oh that's right because I just went deaf!

  • same here hahaha

  • A true gift to music, enjoy your private interpretation.

  • I arranged my own version of "Someday My Prince Will Come"...it's just a great song for jazz!

  • Is Dave Brubeck still alive?

  • yep I saw him last month!

Probably not for much longer though. God bless him.

  • the man is 87!!!!!and can still swing. I saw him last night at the toronto jazzfestival. Awesome show. He played 2 1/2 hours with a short intermission. I'll be happy if i can still walk when I'm that old. Class act!! He played with his quartet and the second half they had a full band backing them up. Man the place was moving.

  • I just saw him last night in Kansas City, he is still alive and kickin.

  • We need Paul back!! this sax player really sucks!

  • Paul Desmond was a legend. He made it look effortless, very lyrical, especially the quieter solo's but don't be dissing this player. The video isn't the best quality. His style is a little rougher, less polished but when I saw them live it was still awesome.

  • Nobody digs the sax player (he does hog a bit) from any of the new Brubeck stuff.

  • originals (drummer and bassist) were there?

  • I really like Someday my prince will come....it is so nice melody!....and Dave is one of the greatest!

  • The sax player plays as if he were a one man's band. Man, let the song breathe.

  • i met the sax player, guy is good but totally full of himself, he was like yeah ive been good at everything i do, what can i say, im just amazing lol no lie.

  • thats what happens in the jazz world man. arrogant style is something really essential appearantly ;)

  • I saw this lineup in 2007. Brubeck is incredible...as is the saxophonist. However...they dont mix well.

  • I daresay that this sax solo really does not fit the theme atmosphere. I watched personally to this presentation

  • agreed, in my opinion this sax soloist sucks actually..but i wont judge him on one song.

  • Honestly the sax player exhausts me when I listen to newer Brubeck recordings like London Flat, London Sharp and the DVD "Take Five in a Quartet". He makes me flip to the next song. Repeatedly.

  • In this song...I just felt that he (like alot of musicians) were just trying to show off how fast they can play notes instead of 'feel' what the song is about. I think thats what seperated players like miles davis, freddy hubbard, dexter gordan, etc. apart from this guy.

  • no one can replace paul desmond ever

  • i dont think dave has ever tried to replace desmond he knows des had his own sound no one will ever have again im sure he knew it was time for a change and moved on to players with new sounds

  • ouch! i had my volume up decently high since i was listening to some Basie...the beginning "fuzz" caught me by surprise! ooh, great song though :)

  • Me too. Just about blew me over. And as you say the song is great. Dave is in his fifth decade here.

  • me too xaxaxa!

  • ha same

  • Same here! Darn, my ears! =)

    Love the swing though

  • Same, I was wearing headphones and its 2am, scared several shades of brown out of me.

  • Hell yeah.....i think i broke my head phones b/c i threw them off.

  • I completely agree with you!

Unfortunately, Youtube is full of such jazz-ignorant like lozione1... If you go to view his profile you'll see, after over 15 years of playing sax, what is is main job today: playing videogames!

    Shut up, next time!

  • I have been playing saxophone for over 15 years, but regardless, just because he's an outstanding musician doesn't mean he's perfect for this group. Im all for people trying new things, but this performance in particular just didn't fit, the sax player is a mix of cannonball with gerald albright and the solo in general was meh, i have a right to my own opinion

  • he's a guy dave brubeck thought would be a suitable replacement for paul desmond. who the fuck are you?

  • HAHAH

    thats hilarious

  • pattynama is referring to the sound quality.... not the quality of the sax player. the sound quality is poor because it was recorded with a poor camera

  • such a pity...the soundquality is not that good

  • Regardless of any other comments, and trust me this needs not a reply.

    Shut the Fuck up.

  • They can't all be Paul Desmond - time moves on.

  • who are all you experts???

  • i was there, was an awsome performance...

  • well, Brubeck insist...!

  • 80 yr olds play as well as 16 yr olds.. :))))

    ...or even younger!!!!

Their ONE OF A KIND MY FRIEND...

    I LOVE them!!!

  • amazing how music keeps people young...ive seen 80 yr olds play as well as 40 yr olds..

  • They are still alive!.....amazing!.....i have to go to see them it could be my last chance!

  • I saw this group when they came to my hometown just last month. It was amazing. I absolutely adore old jazz musicians, and I think that we can learn so much from them.

  • I miss paul Desmond.

  • :'( as do i, it's sad to hear Paul Desmond died of lung cancer. The world will miss this saxaphonist.

  • I'm classically trained and know virtually nothing about jazz, so the discoveries which I am making at the age of 44 are of the kind of things which you guys probably knew about when you were kids!

Great to find out that Dave is still active at 86. Pity that the CD of his 80th birthday concert with the LSO is so heavily edited: I had a tape of the original "live" BBC broadcast and I'd estimate that about 80% of the CD was recorded after the concert.

  • Dave the great Dave and his quartet is wonderfull!!!

  • Cripes, who the hell recorded this?

    Horrible quality.

    Great performance though. too bad.

  • How much did you pay for this video? You should be happy someone atlest had the video to share. People can never be happy!!!!!!!

  • What, I can't have an opinion?

    Go f*&kyourself, I said it was a good performance didn't I?

  • This is soooooo not about video quality ~

  • The alto player got to far from the tune. He should of had the band stop playing and just play a solo. So he was playing in 4/4 and the band in 3/4. It is OK. Too much freedom doesn't work either.

  • I went and saw them perform at the Cerritos Performing Arts Center here in SoCal. It was my first time watching him live and i enjoyed every second of it. Dave is like the "Yoda" of jazz!

  • I've seen him twice - once in '77 with 3 of his sons - then about 25 years later, as part of a different quartet. He (and his band) were awesome both times. Yes, there is some good, young jazz talent today - good to see them keeping it alive. But there has always been - and will always be - only one Brubeck.

  • I met him at a Jazz Festival in 1958, Long Island, when I was 16. Then didn't see him again until 1993 at The Blue Note in New York. A much older, white haired man came to the stage, but the playing was still superb. The last time I saw him was in 1996 when I worked at St. Peter's Jazz Church, at the Gerry Mulligan Memorial. I have always loved him, always will. I can't believe he's still touring at 86!!

  • Awesome that you got to meet him. Last time I saw him perform - 4, 5 yrs ago - they opened with a 15, 20 min rendition of Pennies From Heaven. Then slowly, Dave makes his way out front & starts telling the greatest stories. He's so old and stooped over (from his height & decades of hunching over that piano), he can barely walk - but man, can he still play - & his tales of how and when he came to write certain pieces - he's the best ...

  • i hope so

  • Does anybody think jazz like this will survive after all the classic jazz players are dead? Some form of jazz will, but will the classic jazz come back like it used to be before I was alive.

  • i think so, jazz has a comeback these last ten years, and some of them will play classic jazz, so i don't think you should worry.

in worse case, we must put on old CD's (or LP xD) and remember the stars from the past

  • Oh definatly,

i live in a little canadian town and there are some really good payers who i think could rival ven the greats, every city has some jazz master whiling to share the secerets with anyone who wants to listen (like me) just give em time, you can't master jazz over night

  • Only if our generation spreads the message and we get enthusiastic young musicians get into the industry. We definitely need a star, a man/women with charisma so the mass culture can appreciate the music. Marsalis is simply not enough IMO.

  • Check out Matt Herskowitz at mattherskowitz or madfusionmusic and also here on youtube. He is one of Brubecks favorite young Jazz artists. This guy is your answer.

  • Christian McBride?

  • Actually, I think Eugene Wright is alive as well... Only Desmond has passed.

  • old men, old jazz style :P...but works fine..

  • Great jazz player. One of the best. In regards to the age of the players in the band, the only one that was in the original quartet is Dave, the rest have since died. The drummer is Randy Jones, who played with Maynard Ferguson. He is an awesome drummer.

  • Joe Morello hasnt!

  • WTF. When was this concert? I lived in Boston for 10 years and the year I leave Brubeck shows up at Berklee!!!

  • i prefer desmond though

  • Militello...the best kept secret of jazz....

  • i was there!!!

  • Bobby Militello is the man. Does anyone have a video of the Quartet playing Love for Sale? Bobby just blows that song up!

  • it would be even better if the camera could pick up the bass sound. kinda sucks without it.

  • wow..everybody's old already!

  • crazy soloist
