@EASYTIGER10 A lot of people use it to get to Westfield Shopping Centre from Kent and Sussex and to use East Anglia services (like me). So not entirely a waste of money even if the functions it was meant to be used for never came to fruition.
Eurostar wont be stopping at Stratford International, certainly not during the games anyway. Its possible that this £210 million station wont ever live up to the name international.
@hellohello1700 Mainly by looking in the timetable for St Pancras arrivals/departures, although in addition there's ECS Southeastern workings to and from Ashford before the morning and evening peaks. You get a bit of notice from the headlight reflection and sound in the tunnels, but not much....
@DeanieBoi07 Well it makes my trip home to Norfolk from Canterbury that much easier and its a line many people use and Eurostar have said they may call at Stratford after the Olympics
@DeanieBoi07 Yeah it would be much more convenient than getting an underground train from St Pancras but apparently they're going to install a shuttle service from some point next year so I imagine its definite
@gangstamillion Good stuff. The Underground is going to be absolute murder during 2012 Olympics. I cannot see all this upgrade being complete, seen as they are falling quite far behind.
@DeanieBoi07 I have seen the building works and they seem to be doing quite well with most of the stadiums complete but yes they do need to start with this shuttle service as soon as possible
@Class390032 At the mo, you need a ticket to even get to the station from Stratford - it's in the middle of a building site and can only be reached from the mainline station via a bus link which is included in the train ticket price.
@Class390032 you don't need to get a ticket to get on the bus that brings you to Stratford int'l, but you do need a platform ticket (which can be bought for 10p at the office upstairs) and permission to take vids/photos from the guard down on the platform. If you stay nice and polite both shouldn't be very problematic
Cool train. Thumbs up! :)

Is Stratford International just a huuuge waste of money?
Originally it was going to be London's "through" station for Regional Eurostar. Well, that never happened.
Then it was going to be the stop for Eurostars carrying Olympic crowds from the continent. That isn't happening either.
Eurostar doesn't want to use it after the Olympics either.
All a bit embarrassing really.

Complete waste of money. They build it and then decide they don't want to use it.

@gangstamillion It'll be very handy if they do use the station. Makes things better for the French and what not.

nice vid, am I the only person who thinks the HS1 stations look quite horriable?
simpletimes222 2 years ago
No. Stratford is truly a shoddy station. Unfinished rough concrete, dusty, mossy platforms and its in a trench. Thats probably why nobody uses it

Beautiful. This is high speed.

Awesome video of the Eurostar mate, it was doing 143 mph (230 kph) which is the max linespeed through Stratford International :)
