A brilliant song, probably the zenith of the Airplane/Starship project. 5.51 "But in a day and a night I could write you a symphony"............................
This band missed Balin. His returned presence reunited the those really cool three part harmonies. Listen to Kantner and Slick step in at the 2:11 mark. Close as this band was gonna get to the Airplane's power...
@UmmAzizaJamila-Yes,many fine memories. You have made another. I return your wish for me with what love I can send through this strange ether we communicate through. My only hope is that there is room in a heart that must be already overflowing with the same.
I had a dark eyed girl who once loved me back when this song first came out.The poet in my soul longed for her.Years later a friend bought a small fishing boat and began chartering it on the Pacific side of Costa Rica. Her name:CAROLINE. Ifished her many times.with good luck.Always catch and release, as she did with me.
@Jelly50cent finally...i am running into people who can realize the timeless beauty of this song!! i have loved this song for nearly 30 years and will until the day i die...
@bunkieb00 You just ran into another one ! I was there back then and also have loved this song from the beginning.. I was at their concerts front row center.Today has nothing to compare. sad but true !
@dbrinkm1 Ya sure got that right!! this is real music played on instruments and sung by a true singer..none of this computer-enhanced crap like today!!
From the beginng E minor 9 chord, 'Caroline' weaves in & out like a flowing rock river. Marty Balin's lead vocals, a guitar break, then crashing in behind, Grace Slick's soaring backing vocals ! The listening equivelant to flying solo over the Hymalayas toward the eastern sunrise. Any woman would die to have this song written for her...
Sometimes Grace's voice almost sounds like an instrument. Cannot begin to say how much I love hearing Balin-Slick-Kantner's voices soar together.

Nothing is real but my feelings and desires for you
Everything looks like some sort of scenery stored in an empty theater
With stars on the ground
Fences in the sky
Tears in the curtain of time
Oh what can I tell you now my Caroline
