  • I like her . oodles of class and humble to boot

  • I want her suit xD

  • Bipolar....highs and lows....an everyday struggle to keep balanced on a tightrope....I can relate. Love this artist, she's intelligent, talented and inspiring.

  • intelligence, soul, beauty, talent - she's got it ALL

  • Is she awesome or what??? Janelle Monae is creative, talented, artistic and crazy (in a good way)! I love her so much and I really appreciate "Tightrope" and the Palace of the Dogs =) She is a beautiful example of being yourself and having fun while doing it.

  • Now let me see ya do the tightrope

  • As I roll into 2012, I'm going to distance myself from all of my haters, and everyone who has ever done me wrong, and "Tightrope" will be my own personal anthem.

  • I like the way she talks! =)

  • I love her voice... Pretty soon imma make a video with this song. (Dance)

  • Well Said. This song is for everyone. WHAT an AMAZING ARTIST!

  • I like her b/c she keeps her clothes on, she not naked. And she not singing about explicit sex. Janelle is presenting the art music, nothing more.....

  • @knapier AAAAANNNNNDDDDD she's a classy chick!

  • she is my favourite! to be honest though, I first heard her on a mazda commercial... but I've started listening to her more since then. she is pretty much the best there is.

  • Natural beauty is always the best . And the greatest part? She doesn't have to show skin to send her message or get people to buy her records! Thank you Janelle!

  • omg I LOVE HER

  • Love artists like her who represent reality through metaphors and expressing relations with your everyday life

thats true talent, not fuckin lil wayne type of bullshit rapping about money and bragging how hes living it and we arent

  • @ThumbsUpMike Janelle Monae does rock & so does Lil Wayne.. Money & bragging about himself is NOT what he raps about . If you dont understand that world of where he & many like him are coming from, dont judge it. My second point is that if he does want to "brag" about his luxurious lyfestyle he has every right. He came from a poor, violence ridden part of the world & with his great TALENT made it to the top. Good on him, good on Janelle & 2 anyone else who works hard & believes in what they do.

  • @parasev1 are you retarded?

lil wayne does not have talent are you kidding

    1. he has song writers to help his lame ass, thats why he only did good in the beginning with carter 1 after he get rid of gillie da kid who boosted his shitty career

    2. he uses auto tune and audio filters in all his songs, have you ever heard his real voice before? its scratchy and sounds like a dying rooster!

    3. he IS NOT REAL HIP HOP

you want real hip hop, listen to this album... Illmatic by Nas

  • @parasev1 :Lil' Wayne does talk about himself and brags.

  • Cambiate el peinado Janelle, que eres mu guapa!!!

  • ok listen to me. why the hell is she so pretty. it just doesn't make sense. how can one person be that gorgeous. the fuck? ughh some things i'll never know

  • <3

  • I think im in love

  • amazing genuis she i dont have words any more

  • holy. crap. this woman, i can't even fucking handle how great she is.

  • A true Role Model at least from what she's saying. o:

  • lol jk

  • i hate it when people say thumbs up if you agree when they post up a coment............ thumbs up if you agree with me

  • @SuperSpiderjam HILARIOUS!

  • If you were wondering what Beauty looks like on the inside--here ya go!!! LUV LUV LUV HER!!! Most are beautiful souls --some have not connected or tapped into how to express it yet--but she def has!

  • I love the comments because my name is Janelle Also ;)

  • .."Dance is the Cure, to getting rid of all evil!"

Because your changing the energy, your shifting the paradigm, your creating the alchemy for change.

I Love you Janelle! Your a much needed light in a world full of ignorance and darkness.

And your performance last night in Nashville was Incredible! Keep the spirit Alive!! ~ Peace.

  • This video is why she's my new favorite artist.

  • Well Muthafuckin Siad Janelle!!!!

  • I would marry this woman. In a heartbeat.

  • cool as hell.

  • I love Janelle. She is so beautiful!

  • y wouldn't ppl like Janell Monae i love her <3

  • Where are my natural-haired sisters? We rock, just like Miss Monae!

I absolutely love the timbre of her voice, a lot of my family and friends talk like that <3

  • What an amazing performer all around!

  • @stephengerondakis Lol. Why are there so many dislikes

  • @mujiha I guess people dont know how to take a joke lol.

  • Dear Janelle; do you know "Industrialized Society" and "Foundation Stone" means? I think one should know what he/she is fighting for as THERE IS A COLD WAR.. BUT ALSO ONE SHOULD KNOW HOW HE/SHE IS FIGHTING FOR..

    BEST WISHES..

  • ZERO DISLIKES! WOOOT WOOT

  • she' so cute while so professional :)

  • LIKE LIKE LIKE LIKE JANELLE SO MUCH !

  • " dancing is the cure 2 get rid of all evil". wow! its always gud 2 see raw talent being used 2 edify and - take ya pain away -.. lol . she's great !

  • why is Janelle Monaè so cool? I love her so much she's so cool

  • good point dance2damusic1

  • HOW DOES SHE GET HER HAIR LIKE THAT!?

  • someone who doesn't have to be half naked or wear meat....SHE HAS REAL TALENT....

  • @svagrod Albeit, completely different kinds of music, I am fans of both Janelle Monae and Lady Gaga. Both are strong, talented women. As a vegetarian I couldn't have been more disappointed with the meat suit but there was a point to that..women are constantly objectified as a piece of meat. Her intent isn't to be half dressed and skanky, we should be comfortable and proud of our bodies! I think that's something that both Lady Gaga and Janelle Monae have in common. Let's end the spread of hatred.

  • @Annamandabella ...and she doesn't copy Madonna's songs and style. There's a difference between getting a point across and just plain attention whore. If she was truly against woman being a piece of meet why would she continue to dress like a whore,be for real at least....anyways... Music is different for everyone ,if you like it listen to it,Saying an opinion/fact is not spreading hate .It's making a comparison.Take care

  • @Annamandabella yeah we should be proud of our bodies but i don't understand how women today feel that to do that, they have to just expose themselves all over the place, half naked or fully naked.be proud but also respect your body.just showing it whenever and to everyone tells those objectifying us that not only are we meat, we are easily obtained meat. the harder it is to get, the higher its valued. something you can get easy is disrespected and undervalued. i just wanted to say.

  • @dance2damusic1 amen

  • I love the fact that she hasnt down graded her self and tried to make music that fits to what people are listenin to now to try to become more famous. She just does what she likes and does her to the fullest...

  • isnt she touring with bruno mars?

  • @Nativenerds1 yep she is!

  • @Nativenerds1 yea he like normal ppl like janelle monae

  • Girl...that's some "crazy" hair, but you are so LOVELY! Tightrope has a better groove and a deeper meaning after Janelle's explanation. I'm not big on current pop music, but this is a good song.

  • SHE HAS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL SPEAKING VOICE OH MY GOSH

  • For those who don't understand the song and her interpretation just stay silent. She makes the point very clear. to break it down simple stupid for those who really dont get it: It takes place in an asylum which represents the craziness of the world, walking on the tightrope represents staying balanced whether you are doing extremely well or barely surviving, her song says JUST STAY BALANCED! duh!

Oh yeah and dancing is what keeps her center calm.

  • For those who don't understand the song and her interpretation just stay silent. She makes the point very clear. to break it down simple stupid for those who really dont get it: It takes place in an asylum which represents the craziness of the world, walking on the tightrope represents staying balanced whether you are doing extremely well or barely surviving, her song says JUST STAY BALANCED! duh!

  • 2 things 1) what u just said dont have anything to do the song and 2) you need to do something with that hair girl! i need to tweet GloZell and tell her about this crazy girl

  • her hair looks like a cap

  • it's because of artists like Ms Janelle, that i remember to remind myself and people around me that inspiration and freedom isn't lost, even though the world today, especially the industry makes it seem like it's all gone...

  • she sounds exactly like alicia keys when she speaks its creepy

  • greatest of ths time today..

  • why are all you baldwins comparing her to beyonce? their music is completely different styles

  • She looks better than beyonce b/c she has so much inner beauty.

  • Brilliant.

  • it's a good thing not all celebs are like this intellectual.. it's artists like her that make the rest come to a certain realization. keep up the inspirational lyrics/messages!!!!!

  • dis gurl is goregous.....and she is SO MATURE for her age!

  • @SexyJessi09 how old is she???

  • @RiseDeadChildren she's 25....but honestly i thought she was younger at first

  • @SexyJessi09 lol so did i. wow

  • I love her hair :) She's refreshing and real and down to earth. She is a whole person. She doesn't become a parody of herself, like a lot of the female pop stars today. I'm so tired of the "I'm a bamf so I do whatever I want and here are the crazy things I do" publicity image. She's aware and not arrogant. She's about the art more than the image and persona that artists nowadays feel the need to portray.

  • I absolutely love Janelle. I always have, since the beginning. She's very inspiring. Her and Lady Gaga provide me with many influential life lessons to help me maintain and amend my own sanity in this world. I'm progressing, and I'm glad to have these supports, they're the antibodies to those who tell me who to be, how to act, what to say, and what I should want.

  • Genuine. Authentic. Something this industry is lacking anymore. Keep at it, Janelle!

  • Did you hear what she said?? Shes obviously talkin bout this fucked up industry. She has seen what many wish they havent. That fame game aint no joke...she is sooo ill! Love Her!

  • can i tell you how fly i think this woman is?

  • It's her attitude that makes her so much more attractive than anyone else out on the scene, like Beyonce. I bet she could never explain one of her songs this way.

Oh Janelle.. why are you so amazing?!

  • @reisday i love Janelle myself but you will not sit there and diss Beyonce like that because she is just as genuine and passionate like janelle!! you betta check yourself or I'll do it!!

  • @Beyoncefan1000 Oh shut up, I wanna see Beyonce say something like this because she probably can't. No one is hating on here, we are stated to our own opinion.

  • @TheDearBrain never underestimate the Queen Bey!!!!

  • @Beyoncefan1000 Shut up, idiot.

  • @TheDearBrain Wtf?? Fuck you!!!!

  • @Beyoncefan1000 SHUT UP.

  • @reisday Doesn't have to get her arse out to sell her music either.....in case any rap fans are watchinG this...it's called TALENT!!

  • @reisday ahaha!!!!!so true

  • @reisday - so amazing. I think we'd agree, it's because she genuinely wants to help lift us up.

I find her and her music so polar opposite to so many of the lyrical messages we've come to know and here in late 90s hip hop. Her tunes aren't candy coated with ganster glam sh*t - I believe she's a chic on a mission. I'm so thankful that she's intellegent, clever, coool and carries herself with full-on class. Makes me smile some! :)

  • @reisday Why can't you just uplift one artist without bringing another artist down? There is no need to. Janelle and Beyonce do different kinds of music, but they both put their hearts and souls into their performances and that's why their respective fans (some who are even fans of both artists) love their music.

  • @reisday Right?!!!

  • It astounds me every time I see this video. This is the second time I've seen it. She's highly intelligent and well versed in the language of the soul it seems.

  • I'm a classical musician and only bother with those pop musicians who are genuine artists and sincere people. Janelle Monae has my vote.

  • oh my god, she's like a black Annie Lennox. :)

  • she is stunning. and so intelligent.

  • she speaks so strongly

  • Willow Smith in the future?(looks not music)

  • @WinstonDH id say no to both

  • Exactly what I thought it was lol. Ha' put this up on my 29th b-day =0) no wonder I got obsessed with this song lol.

  • Im in love... lol

  • She sounds like Alicia Keys

  • @oanunkor Yeah she does a little.

  • She sounds so much older than she sings and looks like

  • I like how chill she is shes not like some people who get interviewed n they are all like hyper n bouncy lol

  • @candyqueenify eaxctly. more people should be relaxed and just enjoy themselves. but in western world "to enjoy" automatically seems to mean being hyper energetic..

  • i love her hair!

  • HEY EVERYONE!!! PLEASE LISTEN TO THE REMIX INSTRUMENTAL I MADE (COLD WAR REMIX, NUFF-SED). Dope track...aaand Janelle Monae is above and beyond!

  • Great works! Please don't pull an Erika B' move... She opened the world to a "High Archy" combination of sound and appearance then just did something... Else... We love you and we support your music! A young dance group (V2W) performed a piece to your tight-rope song and I was blessed enough to capture it. It was recorded at THE oldest black owned theater in America! The Crispus Attucks Theatre, located in Norfolk, VA. Just reopening a few years ago.

    Wish you the best!

  • windycity...you just don't know, this woman is bordering on geninus. Can anybody say that about you!

  • @blackpetebruklen genius? lol im jus sayin if ur a artist u aint gota try an get attention like that...shes like that gaga bitch tryin to distract u from tha music and say hey b4 u hear my lyrics u can tell im a genius cuz my hair looks like a crazy person..naah u aint foolin shit

  • @windycity708773

well maybe if you actually heard what her music was about, then you could say it is genius. And yes, her hair is artistic and is her own style. You know nothing about this person so shut up. Also I live in Chicago too. So don't give BS answers. If you don't like it, why are you even here. Get out.

  • @yomamasofat1000 her hair is wack get over it

  • @windycity708773 You hate what you can't comprehend, and with your stupidity, you're dissing Chi town. Don't address such stupid matters in such void ways saying you represent the city, because you don't, you represent mediocrity.

  • @MengoCuz did u notice i dont care yet lol

  • @windycity708773 Of course you don't, ignorance is bliss.

  • ewwww ur hair is fuckkkkked uuuuuup

  • @windycity708773 Her hair is artistic and has meaning. You are either some stupid 12 year old kid who loves American music and fashion, obviously with no taste. Or you're a troll and so your opinion isn't valued.

  • @soragirl6 kanye west wannabe ....and im a grown ass man wit my own opinion who lives in chicago and proud of our artistic values here and what weve done in music and more so dont start that young american music bullshit...ive grown up to music that u would not have a clue on how to relate to..i think her hair is wack get over lameass

  • @windycity708773 Get over yourself. Just because you live in the same geographical location as many of the artists doesn't mean anything. People can interpret their own damn meaning into whatever song they want. That's why people make music. It's free for people to read into it what they will and cannot be constrained to one meaning or another. It will always evolve Don't pretend like you own it because you grew up with it or it was made near you. Doesn't mean shit.

  • This woman is the bomb.

  • "You got to tip on the tightrope." That's a phrase to remember. Balance is necessary in mostly all aspects of life, and since there is no clear option for anything, it's always best to just tip on that tightrope.

  • You guys can't really compare Beyonce to Monae. They are completely different artists, one is hip hop and the other is soul. They seem to be nothing alike.

  • I totally agree with you davy:) you are truly right

  • Janelle is naturally beautiful. I think the word "Gamine" (look it up...) describes her perfectly. On the other hand, "Beyonce" tries her hardest to hide her colour, she's got "bingo wings", she's utterly devoid of talent and above all, she's got a really fat arse.

  • @davymgaunt lol whats bingo wings???

  • @sweetbunny9 "Bingo Wings" is UK slang used to describe the build-up of fat and/or extra skin that hangs from the underside of the upper arms....that you see on hefty fat unfit women in Bingo Halls. I suppose the American counterpart is the obese heffalumps who play the dime machines in Las Vegas....

  • @davymgaunt lol Heffalumps! damn

  • Goddess...

    Overwhelming impression...

    Revelation...

    Difficult to resist her innocence...

    Is it...?

Her heart, eyes or her mind...?

Intensity & fate... Of a sweetheart...

    ©...Aronne

  • i can't tell if she's with 'them' or against?!

  • Dancing is one way to make it dance balalnces so well! dance dance dance.

  • yea she's alright....

  • SHE'S AWESOME!!

  • this is one hell of an artist who deserves to sell quadruple platinum and lots of grammies. this is an unusual talent that i hope the world will appreciate and by the look of her first sales, the world doesn't seem to really grasp what real talent is...God bless you Monae and continue giving us raw and inspirational stuff that this world so badly needs

  • Ive been looking for a woman like this for a while without success..anything worth having isnt gonna be easily found or acquired for that matter...ladies and gentlemen stop watching tv thats all i have to say..then maybe you see more of yourself instead of a personality everyone else has..

  • @mwilliams2991 Good advice. I'm one of those idiots that watches FAR too much TV even though I agree with you...

  • this is a white boy that is in love

  • "Dancing is the cure... to get rid of all evil." --Janelle Monae

  • great songwriting device....extrememly original

  • I'm in love

  • she's so weird and artsy and smart! that goddamn beyonce i get tired of that yoddling bitch! whew...shush.

  • look she is a great singer but what annoys me is that a whole bunch of people dont know who she is (or if she exists) when she is extremely talented and i really hope she doesnt get corrupted by her fame and fortune if she becomes rich and famous.

(hopefully she does get really famous)

  • she is my queen. there is nobody like her. <3

  • Brilliant woman like Janelle are too far and few between. Brilliant and Gorgeous even fewer so

  • "dancing is the cure to get rid of all evil"...-Janelle Monae

    Word Up!!!

  • how pure...how real...how beautiful

  • what are halve and halve nots?

  • @colombiatm have and have nots - the rich and the poor

  • @ZafuDiamond thx

  • @colombiatm HAVE

  • she has a great style and soul to her music.

the music in this song dares you to sit in your seat.

she had a great message and respect for herself and refuses to sell out for titles.

and she is the most goregous artist out there, hands down.

  • She's so beautifully, it's compelling.

  • shes one of the most underrated artists. monae's music is genreless, i can't classify it as any one sort, that is true talent. and naturally beautiful.

  • shes the type of lady u take home to mama

  • Clearly, there are many us from the past generation, who see this generation she can speak to. Nothing has change that much. Dance for us then is something she understand, so we also wouldn't go insane. I am glad her understanding has carried us forward. Thank you and thank you some more.

  • she is sooo gorgeous! wow.

  • everything about this woman is so attractive. im 19 years old and i find her more attractive than beyonce, and all the other celebs that society says im supposed to be attracted to.

  • @MrBlackninja777 There we go again. Why do you have to compare the two? Why can't you just appreciate her AND Beyonce? She's a beautiful young kady and so is Beyonce.

    Leave it at that.

  • @mumbleora Beyonce is young? lols

  • @rainman33322 29 is not young? If not, what is old in your mind?

  • @mumbleora 20 to 39 is my zone

  • @mankill3r1996 That's my zone too...I'm not old.

  • @mumbleora Beyonce is young? lols

  • @MrBlackninja777 Yeah. I agree.

  • @MrBlackninja777 I agree. Mostly because she doesn't look like what american women are "supposed to be." She has talent and class, and that's way more attractive than seeing some chick dressed in skimpy clothing to distract people from her cookie cutter pop music.

  • @MrBlackninja777 That's the truth. I've seen the woman in person. She is tiny and beautiful with perfect skin. She's an absolute doll.

  • shawty is deep!

  • The way in which she speaks and carries herself is truly rare among young artists these days. She's good. Very good.
