i got a new labrador for christmas and let me say he is a handful i was just wondering when he goes poop or pee should i praise him for going poop and then praise him when he goes pee or should i just praise him for both one time?????
@ssips720 I have had experience with Puggles and want to tell you that you were never the cause of your Puggle not being trained properly. Puggles are exceptionally hard to train, even for an experienced dog trainer like myself and a friend of mine, who also had one. Took me almost a year to house train, but ordinary commands were easy. Labs on the other hand are so easy to train as long as you give treats right after they go, or do a trick. Never give a treat unless they do something.
Here is a great video and this is the Service you need if you live here in Orange County. This Video will show you two Labs and Vizsla and how easy it really is to have the Great Companion you have always wanted. These Three Dogs go into Macy's on a Free Leash, Sit, Stay, and Come on Command, and all you have to do is work with them. Watch the Video and you will see what we do, and Call us.
I have a 1 1/2 yr old lab who is out of control. No one in our home can walk her, even with a pinch collar on. She is very strong and has knocked down my husband. She's a really good girl but my husband wants to get rid of her. When someone comes to visit, I have to be right on top of her or she'll knock them over. She jumps up at people and goes nuts! I need to know how to control her when people visit and also how to take her for a nice walk. Please help!
@SweetMamaB5 get a Gentle Leader or Head Halter to use for walking. It works perfect for any dog who pulls. you can also put the leash on the dog and have her sit and you step on the leash to hold them down. this does not allow them to jump up on folks coming in the door. remind it to sit and stay. if she goes to get up, she at least will not be able to jump. If she remains sitting when folks come in, give her a small treat. if she goes to jump, have them walk back out door and try again.
good advice...but what if it's to late to teach them calm greetings as a pup? My Lab is now a big 1 year old and is crazy excited when meeting people...how do I train him to calm down when meeting people at his age?
Mine LOVES cars, and even got run over gently..which helped me realize how much i care about her because i cried and cried. Walking does help them, i try several hours a day. They are just very hyper when young, I get some injury every week, but they are loyal pets. Mine has even helped me stand up before by going under me and pushing up!
Hi, your vids are great... lookin forward to getting your book. My LAB is 9 month... still mouthing quite often, any advice... scared it may put to much pressure one time and hurt someone (family covered in bruises lol)???
i hab a golden retriever. is about the same wif lab. the problem is... when she saw a dog, she will jump and run very fast and jump on the dog. Every dog see her they will away or bark . any1 can help me stop her from doing this . She is too hyper when she see dog.
Ahah my lab too doesn't want to lay down. He will do it if you mention food in change though. He can do lots of tricks but relaxing is not his favourite.
My lab always jumps on me and ruins my clothing, I'm afraid to take her out to run, because she always cries whenever i put the leash on her. Can you help me?
give him toys every time he does... its gonna stay like that for a while. mines 5 and a half months and still teethes, but nudges us when he wants a toy. he wont bite anyone
Labs are the greatest. They stay puppies for quite some time, however they are easy to train and they are very loving. You can not go wrong with a lab for a child or yourself, if you need a pet.
i need to work with my lab, when ever i am talking to people he barks and whines. and then when im about to go for a walk. he pulls me like he is in a rush to go to the park.
Any dog can adjust to an apartment. Apartment dogs has a richer life because you have to walk them in stead of giving them a couple of minutes in the back yard.
The good part of getting a labrador is that it is easy to make it accept your leadership.
The bad part is that a labrador should have at least 8 km of walk each day - and dont think throwing a ball or a stick is exersice - it is just making the dog stressed.
filigold, puppies are just weird like that. my dog used to lay in the sun and just sit there, refusing to come back. he will grow out of it eventually.
i have a lab, 3 months old. he doesnt like going out, we have to literally pull him to the end of the street but once we get there he's all happy but during the walk he stops for like 2 minutes, looks at us and then keeps on going, whats going on?
Guys my labrador is 1 and a month old now and I dunno y but when he was small when I said "sit" he will sit within a second, now when I tell him to "sit" his apparently too excited and disobey my orders by jumping and running around, anyone know how do I calm him down?
house training isnt very difficult crime to the cross. i acctually have a lab pup now. she goes outside alot and is easy to house train. The only problem is nipping. i recemmend a girl lab. i also kno a few places to get labs. just say if u need me to give you the cites u in NY?
crime2thecross labs would be fine for a first dog. you have had some experiance with dogs in the past so it shouldnnt be 2 hard. the one thing you need to do is exercise it daily. also get a book on them to learn more about the breed. My lab is my 2nd dog (yorkie first) and they seem easy to train.
thanxs for your message i have read a book on labs they sound grate dogs i have mountains round were i live in easy access so exercise isnt a problem think they grate dogs just need to find a gud breeder now how hard did you find your lab to train
hey eric i have watched alot of you.t vids on alot of differnt breeds really enjoy them this question goes out to anyone really im thinkng bout gettin a lab im soon to be gettin my own place would a lab be a fgood first dog? i have been brought up around dogs i have haad a gorden setter and a westi in the past so ye if anyone can answer i would be verry gratefull thanx you
Eric, I've been watching your videos most of the afternoon and thank you! I was not able to stop my yellow lab from jumping until I held his paws for a moment. You rock!
I have an 11 year old yellow lab named Chloe, she's my dog guide and has been for ten years now, she's the sweetest, goofiest, most squeezable, huggable, kissable pooch you'd ever like to meet and I don't like dogs all that much...I'm a cat person LOL.
i bought my black lab at 8 weeks old i have a vid of her on my page ,
ps im 16 and im the only one that has trained her she sits lays crawls chases people on MY command she knows no she listens and she is a wonderful friend
my labrador is 4 yrs old and i love her but all she ever thinks about is food and its making her vicious. she snaps foodfrom my hands and she sometimes attacks my little terrier over food. plz help
You should get with a professional trainer immediately. Food aggression is nothing to play around with, even with a Labrador, which do tend to be a "softer" breed.
That said, you may not be giving you dog enough exercise (Labs can have ALOT of energy), and you may want a vet to check her just to make sure everything is ok physically.
YUP! Ur right!!! labs are easyly excitable!!! i got a lab and she'S now 5 years old and i didn't teach her to greet people calmly and now she become Hyper when she sees people! I don'T know how to calm her and how to teach her to stay calm because she's so big now... but i still LUVVVVV her!
Sasha, my yellow lab pup, will be 6 months old on Tuesday. She's not a big barker either - which is awesome!! She will "alert bark" when strangers pass the window or she hears strange noises, especially at night. I'd say count your blessings!! The 2 dachshunds Sasha shares a yard with bark at everything which is pretty annoying. I love that Sasha reserves her barking for when it's important.

i think a lab would be great because they can hike with you, swim, probably frisbee.. and maybe even save u if ur going down in the water,,
+ they would prolly alert you to strangers etc.. and they are a great walking/sports companion.
i really like this breed, its in my top favorites.
i just wonder if id be able to train it well.
(since our family puggle was never properly trained ..
and i want my own dog to be super trained.
