The Playchoice 10 had a better PPU than the NES, it could output RGB SCART. (A precursor to Component) And that's why the Opening of SMB3 looks yellow, the color isn't compressed.

People buy Playchoice Motherboards to hook a NES to a 480i TV with Component.

Those who live in the Portland, OR area may be interested to know that there's an arcade in downtown Portland called Ground Kontrol where they have a playable PlayChoice 10. (Not to mention a 6-player X-Men cabinet, Ms. Pac-Man, Mario Bros., and plenty of other classic arcade games from the late '80s-early '90s.)

Here's how I see it (according to PlayingWithMahWii). Nintendo used a time machine to go to the year 2000 to get ideas for their coin designs, so when they say the gold dollar coin, they had an idea, then they went back to 1988, and used the gold coins in Super Mario Bros. 3. Nintendo logic!

No offence, but you made a mistake when you were telling the story of Super Mario Bros. The bosses at the worlds 1-7 we're not Bowsers brothers! If you kill them with fireballs they will turn into normal enemies that then die. They were just normal enemies with a transformation spell or something cast on them.

Super Mario Bros 3 was a play, which is why it opens with a curtain, and which is why those platforms, or stage backgrounds are held up by chains, and which you can go behind the black backdrop on one level, etc. Thought I'd clear that up ;)

Well, If you really want to go with the dollar coin thing, you have to remember that the game originated in Japan, and during nationalization it was probably changed to Dollars($) from Yen(¥) and 1 Yen is worth I think Less than a penny, and is in coin form in Japan...

@Erinsanity it isn't THAT difficult to get your own arcade machine, assuming you are willing to do some searching. I am not sure how hard it is to get a Play Choice 10 (or it's SNES brother), but there are a lot of common units, and PC-based generic units that don't cost a ton. You just need to worry about shipping (freight shipping means they won't do more than bring it to your front curb and plop it down)

My "Play Choice 10" is my WWF Wrestlefest arcade machine. I came home from my high school graduation and in the den was sitting my very own version of it. My parents and grandparents knew how much time I spent playing it in my Jr high and Sr. high years at the local bowling alley and decided to buy me one as my graduation gift.
