Another thing, most police and the C.I.S. don't understand anything about the Vietnamese American communities they serve and never will. That's one aspect of how/why they work and live in the shadows to such a large extent and never get found out about. It's also how they get away with all their criminal activity. Also, the Vietnamese are loyal to eachother and don't rat eachtoer out.

Response to the comment below: That particular statement on Unsolved Mysteries was incorrect. Kait rented her apartment with money she earned as clothing manager at Pier One Imports. Later, when Dung staged his wreck in California, he was paid with a check that was run through Kait's checking account, but that money was Dung's.

Thia girl was clearly murdered ... not by a random shooting but by someone who was told to kill her. It was not by the goverment because they kill people by inducing a heart attack or faking a suicide ... this girl was killed rather slopply ... by a type of gang or criminal organisation. This is kind of how the mafia and big gangs kill people just shoot them in the head and walk or run away. At least now they have cameras in the streets

Lois Duncan = amazing author. I adored her books. I definitely agree with her about the murder. It wasn't a random act of violence. No way. Too much evidence points to the contrary. If it was a random shooting, they wouldn't have fired twice.

Those shows concentrate on the cases they think will be of most interest to viewers. Popular, out-going honor students aren't SUPPOSED to get killed, so their murders shock the community, whereas the violent deaths of high school dropouts living in drug infested areas are accepted as an every day occurence. It's unfair, yet true.

The fact is that some young woman minding her own business and making something out of her life and hard work being brutally killed is more scary then someone dropping out of life, putting themselves willing at risk in dangerous situations, and then rolling dice one day and getting snake eyes. There's nothing "unfair" about this.

@kaitarquette Yes if a homeless person goes missing who cares?If he gets murdered well part of the package.Funny how everyone is created equal but some are more equal than others.People get emotional about blonde haired blue eyed girls but nobody cares about the homeless guy who was abused as a child in a low income family with no education and no hope of making a living.He just got what he deserved and fell through the cracks because he didn't have friends or relatives to stand up for him.

"Two viable theories" is exactly right: the implications against the Vietnamese gangs are indeed compelling, but the case against the Hispanic kids seemed pretty strong, too (at first), and I don't blame the cops for pursuing it. Random attacks DO happen: a year before this, a bunch of Mexican kids shot some tourists at Big Bend, much the same way.

The problems are that cops won't admit when they're wrong (or clueless), and parents can't accept random losses. Neither side is thinking clearly.

im not trying to be racist, but i know a LOT of vietnamese guys and girls, and SO many of them are crooked and do illegal scam type things from credit card scams, big drug deals, counterfeit money, you name it... i DO think that the viet bf and friends are behind this murder. him confessing to cops that he was part of the insurance scam helps him look innocent

i dont get why the cops dont arrest the boyfriend and those connected to the car insurance scam and hope 1 of the turns on the group and tells the cops what he knows about the murder of kate to avoid going 2 jail for the insurance scam

Detective gallegos makes me so angry especially after reading the book. I truly believe that Lois Duncan is on to something and that only if the darn apd would look into it the case would have probably been solved by now!

sure is a lot of crim in california every time i watch unsolved mysteries why is there always a murder in california especially los angelas or burbank i lived in plainwell michigan for 21 years and i never hered of any murders or insurance scams!

i think her mom is right, it wasn't random. she was shot twice in the head, which hints that someone was really trying to kill her. if it was a random shooting, the most likely wouldn't have fired twice.

oh, and i love lois duncan! i've read like 5 of her books.

In any event, the boyfriend had to have called the Vietnamese gang to inform them as to the couple's break-up that day and to give them information as to her probable whereabouts. What a great actor he was.
