  • Come to think of it...that Norman Osbourn affair with Gwen Stacy story is far worse than One More Day.

  • @LifeFirst The Norman/Gwen affair was bad, but it didn't erase and destroy years' worth of continuity. It's also something that can (sort of) be swept under the rug of time if they wanted to. That one is a lot easier to "fix". OMD and BND, and the efforts to justify them, have just made a mess of everything.

  • Keep the entire situation in the office and in-universe exactly as it is. They still want to effectively write out the marriage so they can get to making completely new storylines with a hip, single Peter. They still don't want to use divorce. They still have Aunt May getting shot, other heroes suddenly becoming useless, and Peter and MJ basically on the run.

There was a video from a guy, Ehfvanteis, that basically spelled it out perfectly. Five words. MARY. JANE. WATSON. WITNESS. PROTECTION.

  • @Witness2TheWade They used the "young, hip" story excuse and...the stories still were lame in the year following OMD. That why a guy who collected since he was a kid (me) finally ditched ASM. There was an issue here-and-there that was good (Zeb Wells, I believe), but by and large they were still lame. Marriage was never the problem; bad writing was the problem.

  • @dtrod Strangely enough, yesterday I actually started thinking about it a bit and I've actually come up with a theory that at some point somebody's gonna have to use for ASM. Think about it. Mephisto wanting their marriage, even practically marking out about it because it's pure, it's rare, once-in-a-millennia, blessed by God and all that jazz, makes zero sense. Unless...THAT is the ONLY way he got to rewrite history so freely *this one time* in a way *specifically targeting their lives*.

  • Hey dtrod, some new comments on Spider-Man these days ?

  • @SilverSurferDE Hello! The sad thing is, I've been out of the ASM loop for some time. I read a few my brother requested with the return of The LIzard, tried to get back into it...and then couldn't. Is it me or are they always changing writers and artists? I can't stand that on any title, and with the Pete and MJ continuity still messed up my patience for ASM is razor thin. Right now the only Marvel book I read is New Avengers.

  • The whole deal with the 'devil' (demon), step in is insane! I think Peter should have a'coma' and come out, that he still is married to MJ. If they can't get along, she should divorce him, or 'die' like Gwen Stacy. ^^ They made Peter 'totem' powered. Ugh!

  • @DryBONESreborn Good point. There were about 10,000 ways Marvel could have ended the marriage. I would have been unhappy with the move, but if it had been done "right" then it would have been just one of those bitter pills that I'd swallow and move on. Instead, they come up with one of the lamest ideas of all time. And THEN every attempt to paper over it just makes the problem worse. These guys are sad...

  • Have you've read the newest "one moment in time"? I've really hated Joe Q before with the marriage being erased, but this is truly garbage. A fat guy falls on spiderman!?! What a joke! Spidey can get his ass handed to him by supervillains of all sorts and things that probably weight more then one average crook. Come on Joe Q! We all could think of better ways to alter the marriage and make it plasible. Honestly I've loved the clone sage compared to this. I'm for the marriage and how it was, 100%

  • @congojoea I haven't, actually. I stopped collecting ASM awhile ago, although I did buy a recent storyline with the Lizard that my brother suggested. I meant to read "One Moment in Time" but I just couldn't bring myself to pay for it... Right now I only buy The New Avengers and the occasional indie book if it's recommended by a trusted friend. It's pathetic how Marvel treats one of its flagship characters.

  • @dtrod Awesome review. Have you ever made more?

  • @Ikarosus I'm more of a writer, but I might try another sometime soon. I really made this video because of how upset I was over Marvel's treatment of one of its greatest characters...

  • Brand New Day is not that bad, I mean the first few issues were somewhat decent but others such as involving Freak and Menace have been horrible. I find the new supporting cast members are fairly lacking in any sort of interest for me as a reader to be engaged upon. I really can't comprehend my fathom as to why Marvel is doing this I mean Spider-Man is their most popular character and to do that to him demostrates them being very lazy and have offically lost all creativity.

  • Amm can you tell me who is Jackpot...?

    :)

  • "Jackpot" was a superhero who seemed to be Mary Jane after BND started. There was a big build-up as to who she was and the "mystery" surrounding her. Readers (who stuck around) were shocked to find she was...no one in particular. And then she died.

This was awhile ago so I might be off a bit. If so someone else can fill in the rest of the blanks. Hope that helps. :)

  • SoniceVoiceFan, did you delete your comment telling me not to buy ASM? Dude, it's okay! I can totally take criticism. I'm not like the guys at Marvel. :) In short, I admit I have a problem. But I'm a "recovering" ASM fan. I learned to read off Spidey and bought almost every issues since I was a kid begging my mom for money.

I literally went from spending about $500 (or more) on Marvel per yer to... $60. I used to have the exact number, but bottom line is they lost a lot of cash from me.

  • Donated to Linkara of Atopfourth wall so he can review and he's clearly pro-marriage and against bnd.

Swing shift free comic book day

575-576(that bag lady turned me off)

  • Uhm Dude ive been looking for people involved with BND that have a problem with it.

Do you got an AIM or MSN or whatever its called or something??

All of us can wait but i really hope Marvels Fanboys dont destroy any chances of wanting back the Spidey We know.

If you've ever heard of DCompose and his spider-Man Ask Kev Anything questions, tell me. His theory of Mephisto is what interests me.

Will he make a grand return in #666. Cause i can calculate when ASM will be released....

  • I don't have AIM or IM, sadly. But I am a "fan" of Spider-Man Crawlspace on facebook. That's the best I can do for you. I was banned from the Marvel boards by the mod "Dragynwulf" (as he's done to pretty much everyone who disagrees with him). I used to go on crawlspace, but I've been busy with work.

I'll check out that theory on Mephisto and get back to you, probably this weekend.

  • We've spoken before, I've seen Joe Quesada TWO Outrageous Interviews over Spider-Man OMD and BND. Ive also seen JQ's side of things as well as his "half". Im still not supporting BND, and Stan Lee changed his BND in his news strip back to the marrage in a Dallas Style Dream just like the way we all thought OMD was........

My question is this WHY do you guys continue to buy the books if you have a problem with them!!

Marvel gettin bought by Disney makes me more scared at what Marvel CAN do

  • I might be a bad fan for not knowing this, but if you wait until they're in the back-issue bin for a buck that shouldn't be able to affect the official sales, right? That's generally where I'm at with ASM right now. I've saved A LOT of money by cutting back on MANY Marvel titles... Displeasure with BND has bled over into other books, that's for sure.

  • Dude DONT BUY THE ASM BOOKS you dont like. Check them out from a public library!!!

sorry to sound mean but if u give Marvel ur money on books over a year old, your still giving them what they want.

Im not buying these ridicoulus books. Checking them out for free in a public library or using the internet to put graphic novels on Hold/In Transit wont hurt you.

  • Right on! Exactly what I do!!

  • @dtrod The affair is horrilbe. The 'horned lady' is horrible, and the Totem Spidey is horrible. It's all bad. Making Spidey 'magical' takes away the radioactive more 'grounded' in some science matter. Ugh.

  • @DryBONESreborn he wasnt magical there was a spider god who chose him ezekiel told and showed him if ezekiel never came along spiderman would never have known about it JMS has had on of the greatest runs on spiderman ever and the whole gwen/norman affair was actually joe Q's fault jms wanted it to be peter and gwens children but joe wanted them to change it

  • @kyledubrule A spider god is still too supertantural

  • dtrod, great video, I definitely am against Spider-Man: "One More Day" and "Brand New Day"! It's ethically and morally wrong period for Mary Jane Watson-Parker and Peter Parker to make a deal with the demonic Satan/Mephisto. 2nd: I don't like the "separation" of the marriage between those two originally responsible and good, iconic, mega-popular characters. I REALLY REALLY HOPE that this One More Day & Brand New Day crap is soon forgotten in obscurity & erased from existence. Clone Saga: good.

  • I couldn't agree more. As I was telling rzerox21xx, I haven't been reading, but I'll probably catch up around Christmas. I'm taking some vacation time from work, so I'll see what the "Brain Trust" has been up to. I talked to the guy at my local comic shop the other day and he said I should probably stay away for a bit longer... Not a good sign.

  • 605 was pure vomit how they treated MJ character when she cuss Peter out about being gone for 4 days which is BS because he been buried alive by Kraven for 2 weeks. That supposely still happened. Dan slott said that everything happened just not married which doesnt make sense their love was still there and strong. If that was the case, then what the heck did Mephisto get of the deal, their marriage licence? My spiderman canon would before the reboot of 1999 to Spidergirl which the story came.

  • rzerox21xx, I accidently deleted your other post. Sorry! But here's my response: I actually stopped collecting ASM around 600. I couldn't shell out cash for it any longer. I've kept tabs on it, but I haven't bought any. Around Christmas I'm going to go to the back issue bin and probably catch up... Right now I'm only reading New Avengers from Marvel.

  • To the guy who said I was a moron:

a.) It's nice that you can play semantics with a slip of the tongue, even though it's obvious from the six minute video, as well as my conversations with the posters below, I know what I'm talking about.

b.) BND was an extension of OMD that sought to explain away the complete disaster "The Brain Trust" foisted upon us. The people behind BND were EXACTLY the same people who gave the green light to OMD.

    NIce try, though.

  • I've always been intrigued by why people hated the MJ/Peter marriage. Not getting into comics till a few years ago, I haven't made my way through all of the ASM, but I'm interested in your opinion since you know what you're talking about.

  • The powers that be always whined that it "limited" them in terms of the stories they were able to tell (Odd since there are plenty of great stories with young married couples). McFarlane struck the right balance years ago!... In essence, it's their excuse for not being creative enough to tell a decent tale.

Notice how he's now single but the stories still generally stink? Hmmm.

  • Spider-man's comics used to be awesome. They were always a good read. But they dropped the ball with One More Day. I read the first two volumes of Brand New day, and that was the end of my time collecting Spider-man.

  • So yeah what you think of this week's spiderman were peter ended up in a drunken one night stand with his female roomate that don't like him anyway after seeing MJ in the his aunt's wedding.

  • I'll have to check it out. I've been bummed at ASM and totally stopped reading. I just got New Avengers today, but I'll read ASM next week and get back to you.

I was holding out a shred of hope with 600, but I guess not, huh?

  • yea brand new day is one of the main reasons i went digital and download my comics oppose to buying them

  • I was going to buy issue 600...but couldn't. Maybe if I randomly see it and I have some extra cash, but in general I'm done with ASM until things change.

  • Hallo again,

after some weeks of abstinence from the message board at MARVEL, especially the BND/OMD topic I just found out that they closed the topic ! It's just gone, because it leads to nothing - they say.

Oh man, I think this is it definetly for me, no more Spider-Man comics, well except the original ones before this shit.

  • Check out Spidermancrawlspace. It's a great website and they don't shut down threads or people they disagree with. I think you'll like it a lot. Many of the people who got banned for disagreeing with Marvel went over there.

  • I agree with you that the whole OMD/BND was an utter abortion.

I really liked JMS run on Amazing Spider-Man. I really think his run was the kick-in-ass the title needed. Hell, it got me back into reading it.

Some of the things I really liked about it was Parker actually not being a Photographer anymore and becoming a teacher. I also really like the idea of Aunt May finally learning that her nephew was Spider-Man. She finally became a likable character.

  • I totally agree with you. I didn't like ASM for a loooong time, and then JMS came out with some really creative ideas. Even when I disagreed with him (e.g., Sins Past) the overall writing quality of the book was light years ahead of BND. It's a shame, really. ASM became a joke, and it didn't need to.

  • Are you going to be interested in the 600 issue with more than a 100 pages of new content which is not bad but its doing a wedding tease with a wedding invitiation with a spiderman mask coverin ghte names which shows parker and a name ending with son(watson) which is obviously is May Parker and Jameson Sr. Teasing us marriage fans. They also bring back Mj and has a story arc dedicated to her in 601 -605 and she going to be the best friend ex like Stern's Amazing.

  • I haven't read Spider-Man in years, but he was once my favourite character. I can't comment on the change specifically, but I can say this: it appears that many great franchises are being restructured so as to appeal to the American Idol crowd. They hope to appeal to a different, maybe larger, group with the promise of more revenue, & I find this most unfortunate. Case in point: the new Star Trek. When I saw the trailer with Kirk & Spock in a dick measuring contest I thought only R.I.P.

  • Now you know I'm a political AND comic nerd... ;)

Yeah, I think the editors of ASM thought they were going to reach a new audience by "turning back the clock"...but the execution of it was so bad that it blew up in their face. And now they refuse to admit it.

  • Hallo from Germany,

I have been into the MARVEL comicbooks for lots of years. Some time ago I have decided to start again taking a look inside Spider-Man. Well it seemd to be a lot of fun to read through Civil War - Back in Black till......this really bad idea of Mephitso making......well you know. One more day, brand new day, whatever. I absolutely agree with you. It's really disrespectful to the whole Spider-Man plot of the past and also very boring.

    best regards

  • Thanks for the post! Guten tag! (I lived in Schweinfurt for three years long ago). Deutsch ist prima!

I'm glad you feel the same way. If you get a chance you should head on over to marvel's message boards and let your voice be heard! We need to keep the pressure on them to change direction, and that will only happen if we stop buying AND let them know how horrible it is.

  • So I did now - comment on page 672 in MARVEL Message Board "Boards » Spider-Man » Official OMD/BND Thread (No others to be created)". Same name. Hopefully someones going to change something there.

  • Glad you joined! I actually just got BANNED, for what, I don't really know... Hopefully it's only temporary.

Right now I have an account as solidsnakeeyes, but I'm only private messaging people. Glad to have you on the boards!

  • so yeah this week amazing spider-man has peter walk in on his aunt may and jameson sr(jonah's father) in bed and she apparently naked screaming PETER!!!. I was shocked. it seems marvel is going for shock factor these days.

  • Tom Brevoort was on the Food Network recently and said, "a spectacular disaster could be just as entertaining" as a plan that comes together perfectly. I thought it was interesting, since that's apparently his philosophy for ASM. I posted this on his blog. It was promptly deleted...

I'm still holding out hope. At some point sales are going to bottom out, my friend.

  • Seriously Your Vid should have 4000 to 10000 views. This stuff from you is well worth Noting

  • Thanks, man. I appreciate it. I'm not too familiar with making Youtube videos, but I had to with OMD/BND. It bugs me that Steve Wacker and Co. are trying to make it seem like everyone is on board with what they did--when that certainly isn't the case. If I make another video I'll try and get rid of the "rough edges" (to say the least) that this one has.

  • There's no fun reading about a character who doesn't evolve. But I guess Marvel thinks differently. Oh well, who gives a crap about FANS anyway? Money is all that matters, right?

  • I stuck with it hoping things would revert back to normal...but finally dropped the book. I'm still keeping up with what's going on, but I can't monetarily support it any longer... Maybe there will be enough of us out there over the long run to change this, samzig.

  • I honestly hope you're right. I stopped reading it as well and I wont untill it gets back to normal, I still read new avengers but whenever I see Spider-man I just pretend that the whole bnd crap didn't happen. Anyway, I agree with everything you said. There's one thing that pisses me off, I thought that there will be more fans who will do what you did and express their dissapointment in marvel, oh well, I guess they just need time.

  • That's funny because New Avengers is the only Marvel book I'm collecting now. I haven't been to the Marvel message boards in awhile, but in the ASM thread they usually do a good job posting the sales numbers every month--and they've been steadily falling for quite some time (Colbert and Obama variants aside).

  • Then Im wondering what you think of how Spidey reunmask to the new avengers in issue 51 and right now to the fantastic four in slott's current arc. I might drop it after that. Im thinking about dropping after 600. So, they made every forget so then they have people find out all over again. they might as well just kept the unmasking in civil war not happened and let everyone who did find out before that still know. I thought their was a mind block because of osborn conclusions in new ways to die.

  • By the way, the last issue of Amazing Spider-girl kicked butt. I really happy with this alternative take. I sometimes like pretend that one more day and brand new day is fanfiction and amazing spider-man true course will lead to Spider-girl. In Amazing Spider-family 4, JM mattesies who did harry death in Spec 200, in writing peter reaction in harry return. I'm hoping they atleast retcon Sin past as Norman messing with peter and the twins were created with Harry and Gwen DNA.

  • I wasn't a fan of Sins Past. Actually, I hated it...

I haven't been to the comic shop in awhile since I dropped ASM. I probably have a couple New Avengers waiting for me. My LCS is a bit out of the way since I moved, so I have to make a special trip to get there.

In short: Demasking does nothing for me. Marvel erased a lot of history between characters with their little mind-wipe (e.g., Daredevil, Black Cat, etc...). I'll only be happy when the real Spidey is back.

  • Do you love how menace been reveal to be Harry Osborn rich girlfriend and how spiderman is going on trial for murders he supposly committed because of the tracers found on the vitcims. At the same time, Norman Osborn is now running things in the Marvel universe which would be so much interesting if he still know his idenity. The good parts of the story could have happened with a married spiderman. After a year of 36 stories, and they solving the subplots.

  • I heard about that, but I have to run out and pick them up this weekend. They robbed a few really good relationships from Peter when they made EVERYONE forget who he is (Daredevil, Black Cat, etc.) Sigh...

I was never psyched on the Menace thing to begin with. It's pretty anti-climatic to me, kinda like "Jackpot".

  • well I can tell you that this week amazing spider-man 583 sold out first, second printings and going for a third. however it's just because of the obama hyped cover. hahaha oh yeah... in that issue, peter picked up a drunk betty brant and let her wasted friend with a clubber douche who trying to pick her up. so spiderman approve a drunked girl being left alone to be taken advantage of and potentially date rape. how iresponsible.

  • I have nothing against Obama, but I do have something against Marvel using cheap gimmicks to sell ASM. They did the same thing with Colbert not too long again. Not to mention, they've had quite a few variant covers for no particular reason. Hammerhead? Ummm, okay...

I can't wait to read this, but for all the wrong reasons.

  • nooo not the pitt, it burns

  • by the way, what you think of the jackpot reveal and harry osborn never being dead but being all a trick by mysterio and norman. there was one issue where negative letters to the direction. I think its during the kraven first hunt. thats it. .... the rest been nothing but praise. I must admit, the flash issue was good.

  • I wasn't a fan of Harry essentially being a zombie. I'm sorry, but he died... Heck, the editors built up the story on their blog saying, "Just give us time to tell a story the fans deserve," (I'm paraphrasing), and then they come out with the Mysterio crap? Weak...

I saw the one issue with bad reviews, but that's pretty lame. I guess they're trying to mask the constant flow of disapproval by having ONE issue dedicated to negative reviews?

And yes, I liked the Flash issue as well.

  • I also hate the characterization of peter in brand new day. I know he suppose to be struggling with problems but man. I don't agree with him being a loser or as marvel call him a lovable loser. JMS did a good thing with peter teaching job and well before one more day, I think peter david run on friendly and sensation (I cant spell the writer name) were pretty enjoyable and fun to read. I love Peter David interaction between peter, flash, betty and jjj.

  • menace, election, new ways to die, all of these things could have happened minus the roomate and that stupid dating and lily triangle with harry. if anything I would love to see mary jane kick her ass for making a move on peter if they been married. haha. new ways to die would have been much interesting with venom and osborn knowing the id.

  • I totally agree with you. I'm not happy with the new direction in general. was there some moments I enjoy about brand new day, yes. however, these things enjoyable could have happened with a married spiderman. saving aunt may from the blank in the roger stern issue was great but I bet it would have been more interesting with aunt may knowing peter's id.

  • Those letters to the editors are so bull! They are like the only five positive comments out of the thousand of negative ones out there, or those were made up. I totally agree with you man, marvel is messing up.
