In fact i don't think I ever want to own a hearing dog again; I never have to worry about her barking at people outside of our apartment, cars driving by, etc. and I love how focused she is when I teach her new tricks.

well to find out if your dog is deaf just like suprise really quick by just clapping really loud or make a weird sound, if your dog reacts to the clap she/he isn't deaf same thing with the weird sound you make. MOstly when they hear some kind of weird sound they move their head to the side and look at you.

really, the most obvious way that i could tell was because she would sleep through everything noisy but would wake up the second I turned the light on. Her ears didnt perk up when i whistled at her and she never learned her name. A lot of white dogs (ie dalmations) have vision and hearing problems. But just becuase the dog is deaf doesnt mean it is SLOW. My baby girl is is 2 now and sweeter, smarter, and more intuitive than ever-- and she didn't need hearing to be that way. Hope you enjoyed!

very cool. from what i hear, all-white pits (or dogs in general) have a higher chance of being deaf. looks like thats the case her. was it hard to teach her the tricks without being able to talk?

i have a 2 month old all white male pit. cant wait till he gets bigger! my pup doesnt have the hearning problem tho. only problem is he can hear but he ignores me a lot of the time.

i dont know how people could give up a disabled dog.

it jsut pissed me off.

Why do people always say "aww poor thing" why then find out a dog is deaf? I have a 10 month old deaf dog, deaf since birth, and he's a perfectly normal functioning dog except that his ears are "broken" (which is how I explain it to kids who don't quite understand). You'd never know he was deaf until I starting signing at him.

When she was a puppy she just didnt ever respond to noise. she never learned her name and she slept through everything. I thought she was just a hard sleeper but i would scream at her and she wouldnt wake up until i turned on the light or touched her.

Wow ilooked at photos and youre right, she does look like one....its possible shes not purebred because i got her from the slums without papers. But arent' argentenian dogos always white? I saw her litter mates and they were brown.

u know when your pit reaches a year and a half old, a good technique if u want em buff is that u strap sandbags all around pit's body, back, sides, 4 legs, chest and even have a dumbell(not too heavy) on pit's chest with a chain for like a few hrs a day, maybe 3 to 4 or 5 and walk them for like 30 mins to an hour with that on n they will be really muscular in no time!

My pit is naturally muscular, as is most. No need to "strap sandbags all around his body". There are better alternatives to sandbags and dumbells. I am thinking about training my pit to participate in pull competitions one day with a harness, which is much more humane.
