this is the best game i've ever played. shenmue is the only rpg i've ever really liked. i felt a connection because i'm japanese too so i felt familiar with everything about the game. plus the soundtrack is amazing

@grez14 What does that do? I have a Model 2 Dreamcast and it can't play downloaded games unfortunately. Does that still work with the model 2?

@amari2001 I'm not sure what you mean by Model 2, but unless it's a very late-generation Japanese model, you can probably run backups on it. Even if you buy Shenmue, you might end up having to use a backup anyway. My copy has a bad first disc, so I have to use a burned copy if I want to play through disc one, which really pisses me off since it's one of the few Dreamcast games that I legitimately own.

The flashback scene with Ryo and his father is also in Shenmue 2. I think it was really touching with the music. Both Shenmue games are incredible and really underrated. I hate Sega for releasing a bunch of new and very bad Sonic games, but no Shenmue 3. it makes me really angry.

This game looks amazingly detailed... From actually seeing your character operate a rotary phone to looking at the individually-rendered veins on his hands, little touches are everywhere. It looks just as meticulously detailed as Metal Gear Solid 2. They just don't make games like this anymore.

@derf55509 Don't you have the game? I could never sell it. It certainly feels like a 20 million dollar production when you play over several months through it to the end. I'm sure if you look long enough on ebay you'll find it between 15-35 dollars. To my shame I sold Shenmue II on Dreamcast in favour of the Xbox version. But even that sold for 40 dollars.

@sonic13rocker That's cool, well there's some great titles out there fitting to the Dreamcast's capabilities. I can recommend Soul Calibur and Dead or Alive 2 for fighting games. I got back into gaming through the Dreamcast and now own an Xbox360. I can't imagine what it would be like to own a current gen and go back, but Shenmue is such a refreshing break from all genres its worth owning a Dreamcast to play through once. Don't forget to buy a VGA/Pal 60 adapter either. VGA looks great.

Play this one and the second one! Keep playing these games! Infact buy two copies to help Shenmue increase profit! If only every person who owned a Dreamcast did that we'd have the third installment.

Maybe it is for the better, you know? Maybe having no closure to the greatest game in existence is a good thing. After all, every good thing must finally come to an end. Let's just be happy there's two games to this great story.

Truthfully I'm not sure if its because enough copies sold, I think its just because it costs to much money to develop each game.

The first game cost $300,000,000 to develop, while the sequel cost $700,000,000!!
