it looks like Derryl here is using scalloped fret Ibanez.What model is it,I have never seen that one.

@LifeForYoga: I am not absolutely sure that this is the guitar, but i do know that Darryl has a Carvin that was custom built to look like an Ibanez i think that this is it. Or it may be that only the neck is Carvin i can not remember exactly.

This is not something I usually say. But your phrases sounds extremely theory-based, a little to much so. Not to say that there isn't plenty to learn from you. I'm just concerned about how your own music sounds.

@Sperzel I'm a very theory-based guitarist, but I even have a hard time listening to this futa-jazz-jam-style shredding kinda style. It's just one of those things that...well, definitely is not my think. I can still recognize that he's a pretty damn impressive guitarist though.

I may not like the music of Jimi Hendrix, for the most part, but I still see that he's absolutely wonderful at what his style of music demands. See where I'm comin' from here?

@TheGilmer Hehe yeah. That was kinda my angle on it too. Derryl is for sure a much more complete guitarplayer than me. But his phrases just sound a little too sterile at moments. It's all a matter of taste of course. I'm probably gonna check his video out anyways to get some cool excercises and whatnot!

@Sperzel I know it's an old comment, but still on page 1, so I'm going to reply: the music stands on it's own. Don't think about theory while you listen. Either it is good or not; the only question that matters ultimately. Derryl is great at what he does. He doesn't need your "concern" about how his "own music sounds". If you don't like this because it's "theory based", there is a simple solution; far easier than trying to get Derryl to change; don't listen.

That sequence he play's a 2:42 sounds like it's over a ii m7 - bII7 - I Maj7. Sweet! The old tritone substitution that is hear so much in Brazilian style Bossa, Samba and Pop.
