  • Trip-hop is secret gold in music, ever since I found It years ago, remains much more brilliant than hip hop will ever be..sub-genre of It or not, It gets to operate outside the box that hip-hop can't because of the deep rooted urban american stigma/image hip-hop has.. that & nobody took chances after It became a cash cow.. It happens to evrything fresh..but trip-hop dosen't have a true "formula" which is great, & luckily trip-hop never got too big.. just the way It should be too imo

  • Love the genre.

  • bienvenue sur ma chaine pour écouter "scandale " le dernier de MC Hoppers

  • i L O V E TRIP-HOP!!!!

  • yse i do!

  • MY FAVS ARE

    Tricky

    Massive Attack

    AllFlaws

    Sneaker Pimps

    Portishead

  • Too bad this is just an advert for a site and when you go to the site it says that the site is for sale.

  • Mm.. this genre is a bit weird o.o. I'm more used to Jazzy Hip hop.

  • Yay! <3

  • and more...? Where the fuck was Bjork? :|

  • One can hardly consider bjork trip hop any more, and even when she was it was only a light glazing of the genre.

  • she will be always one of agents trip hop music! and even when in her music are birthmarks of another style, the most general will be always a trip hop, cuz its solid foundation of bjorks music.

  • Yessssssssssssssssssssssss!!!!!!!!!

  • yes, I do

  • trip hop makes u high :) love it

  • even higher when u smoke a fat blunt to it.

I just kick back and chill

  • Aaahhhh, that's *nice*.... a mellow far out state of mind. Nice little roll drum. Floaty sounds.

    That's the stuff.

  • my thoughts exactly

  • Wax Tailor :)

  • Sneaker pimps, DJ Krush, Hooverphonics...

  • Yes I like it!!! =)

  • massive attack is the best triphop example and maybe portishead too.

  • Bushido ist einfach immer noch der Beste und er wird es auch bleiben

    Fickt euch AMis

  • you wanna listen to some krush!!!

  • I'm kinda confused, is this kinda music playing now what is considered trip-hop?

I always thought the kinda stuff that, lets say Dangerdoom or Gorillaz did would be considered trip-hop...

  • yea id say gorillaz is pretty trip hop, but basically trip hop is hip hop filled with effects like reverb and eerie sounds, but this particular song is pretty simple, and wont make you trip good. for good trip hop you should check out Quantic, Morcheeba, also hip hop laced with jazz and stuff gets you the same effect, i consider it trip hop ( free the robots, Tm juke, mr scruff.

  • I disagree with trip hop being related to hip hop. I hardly see any similarity at all. Hip hop is more about bitching, complaining, an angry state of mind being frustrating about stuff.

Hip hop is, to me anyway, a far out swell mellow state of mind. A place of mental rest. The beats and instruments are most often quite different.

I don't see any close relation between the two styles other that the words "trip hop" and "hip hop" sounding similar.

They should not have used the word 'hop'.

  • buddy, it is related to hip hop... thats where it came from, most people will disagree with you, and yea wax tailor is godly, hes french ftw

  • if you think all hip hop is about "bitching, complaining and a angry state of mind" then you havent heard alot of hip hop tbh :).. theres alot of greys between all that black and white

  • Perhaps hip hop is often not quite as negative as something like rap, which I perceive as the grand master overlord of hateful and abusive music.

Perhaps hip hop is often not negative, and more poetic in some way.

But I fail to see the relation between hip hop and trip hop.

  • yeah rap is generally seen as a inferior kind of music to hip hop (even though they are basically the same).. rap is kind of the mainstream version of hip hop :).. i suggest reading the wiki page about trip hop.. some nice descriptions there how to define the style and how its related to hip hop

  • Try these videos, these are what I perceive to be typical trip hop:

    watch?v=dQEmaj9C6ko

    watch?v=_lEsLcGB7Vo

    watch?v=vRtBZOx_fXw

    watch?v=KzutrE85HZw

When I hear what I think is hip hop I fail to see the relation.

I think you might argue that the list that I referred to isn't trip hop. This is where the confusion come with trip hop. It is what people want it to be. Some think that because it sounds like hip hop they must think it must be similar, which I still don't think it is.

  • Example of hip hop that's very far removed from trip hop:

    watch?v=4jNyr6BJZuI

But this one comes slightly closer:

    watch?v=lvd0FXjkCe8

"Old school" hip hop more similar to trip hop?

I still think trip hop is much more than hip hop on a trip.

I'm seeing all sorts of mental states, wavy, floaty, spacy, trip like suaveness, while hip hop seems a lot more simpleton.

  • And how about this:

    watch?v=9Qcbr0jqk28

Not anything remotely close to trip hop.

    More like rap.

So, is rap and hip hop more blurred together these days?

  • well lots of nice videos you listed there, and i totally understand where you're going with your arguments.. and its true that the line between rap, hip hop and trip hop is very blurred.. since they all take inspiration from eachother theres bound to be similaritys.. but thats the same with most genres, like metal for example.. ive had many arguments over how to define certain songs and the only conclusion ive come to is that, like most things, its all in the eye of the beholder

  • or in this case, the ear of the beholder :)

  • Rap and hip hop are not the same - rap is a (generally) musical artform while hip hop is a culture. Hip hop originated in the ghettos and is usually considered to consist of graffiti artists, break dancing, rap, and DJing.

Rap is simply performing spoken lyrics which rhyme (generally) over a musical track with a beat-like cadnence.

Therefore, rap is NOT only what is considered mainstream. Rap can be Jay-Z, 50 Cent, but *also* Flobots and Flipsyde.Linkin Park incorporated rap in their music

  • The connection between rap and hip hop (as far as I know) is trip hop is a musical trend in the mid-1990s of downtempo electronic music that grew out of England's hip hop and house scenes.

Generally, trip hop displays a female singer and uses less rapped vocals (again, all to my knowledge).

All that being said, please don't close hope on rap. There is a *lot* of amazing rap out there. It's honestly a very complicated and difficult genre to master and holds so much potential.

  • uhm you think rap is hateful? try listening to some metal and i wouldnt consider it hate as much as it is angry... anger is much more constructive and helps you grow

  • I find a lot of metal hateful too.

Anger isn't necessarily bad, but it's extremely annoying to hear music that's targeted towards people that are miserable and depressed, like music that helps people feel sorry for themselves and then give them a way out through anger and mental destruction. Often, these people will get worse dealing with people in real life and become more isolated as a result.

An example of constructive anger is music like from Marillion in the Fish years.

  • from what kind of a movie you picked that bullshit up lol =D

ahh, wait, STAR WARS !!! haha

  • uhh what? try a book... ive only seen phantom menace you fuckin nerd haha the book is "a joyful guide to lachrymology"

  • Well then the writers got it from George Lucas, anyway =D

  • Or maybe the other way around seeing as it was written in like 1940's or so

  • it didnt feel right wit trip-hop man

  • i hear nearly all kind of music but triphop is realy crap

  • Your crap. No taste what so ever.

  • i think u haven't heard about Lamb or Lou Rhodes...

  • get out.

  • thnx for this vid.

    MASSIVE ATTACK!!!!!!

  • Thats the magic of that. Every single song is different, there isn´t lot of similarity. Its unique...and i disagree with you, trip hop is the most feelingful music of all genres maybe, it really depends...but Massive Attack, Unkle, Lamb, Air, Saltillo and so on...they are all so emotional...

  • Ya well what shit do you listen to!

  • Whats that tune? Really catching...

  • Thnkas for the recomends, es un buen punto de partida para empezar un trip hop trip

  • you forgot the best new trip hop band ever - Saltillo.

  • you never can put portishead before massive attack. Massive is the base of trip hop, is the soul, and the body, is the reason to exist.
