thats a neat unit is the circuits that play the voice recording inside the red box and can you rig one of thesa as a portable amp for an mp3 player, also have any of you folks ever seen an analog clock/PA speaker combo unit like in schools they are usually mounter above the classroom door, clock on the left speaker on the right and it has a dark gray metal panel
we still have the old simplex horn/strobes from the 70's at my school. in all honesty i think they should be replaced with these. one of these went off at my brother's school and i liked the noise level.
thanks dan! these vids really help me get used to fire drills b/c when i expect them i get really nervous--thanks again! btw do u no a model that has a voice message saying "may i have ur attention, may i have ur attention please? an emergency has been reported within the building. responsible personnel are responding. u are instructed to remain calm and orderly." something like that--its definitely different than this vid; can u tell me wut model u think it is? thanks!!
At my high school, the whoop and the voice was hooked into our intercom system. We had strobes mounted all over the building, but no horns. Is this a common practice? Just curious. I prefer the voice warning as opposed to the obnoxious horns.
I know at my high school they had SS-24 sounder/strobes but they weren't heard in all parts of the building. The way they had at your school is actually pretty smart, it was heard all over and cut down on cost because they didn't really have add anything extra
yeah the fire alarm at the building i know goes like 1. two slow whoops, (no pre-alert chime) 2. then a voice message: "may i have ur attention, may i have ur attention please? an emergency has been discovered in the building. repsonsible personnel are responding. u r instructed to remain calm and orderly by evacuating by way of the nearest exit. look for the nearest exit sign and proceed to leave the building."
Well, then they wouldn't know what was going on! Some people are blind, so they can't see the signals to figure out it's a fire alarm that's going off. That's why the messages say "An emergency has been reported", or something to that effect...
Can you make a continuous "Woop" vid?

It was like that on the clip I downloaded. I've since gotten rid of it using Audacity.

They're probably horn/lights, if they're from the 1970s. Most likely Simplex 4050 horns on 4050-80 light plates. We have a few of them at my college.

Also, just out of curiousity, is there a way to program how many times the whoop sounds before the voice or how many repitions of each? Thanks!!

Yeah, the school I went to also had no horns or alarms, just strobes. The voice evac was hooked up to the intercom/PA system.

All the speakers you hear in my UAlbany vids are Wheelock E70s...
weatherdan882002 4 years ago
well, with this alarm, for some reason you can really hear the strobe charging. IDK why - it's not like that with my Wheelock speaker/strobe...

It can probably be programmed that way...

Whats that tone before the Main signal used for?
mikemcgill23451 4 years ago
It's a "pre-alert" chime. My guess is that it's used to prevent people from jumping when the alarm first goes off. It really does work...
weatherdan882002 4 years ago
that would be kinda funny to hear music being played over that

Can you make a video, but of it doing a different message and a code 3 tone or horn sound?
jayhawk29 4 years ago
That's a speaker/strobe, Not a horn/strobe.

wow.. glad i subscribed to your videos.. ive never heard one of these.
mysterykid200 4 years ago
well, again, it's a speaker. It plays whatever's played over it, so don't think you're going to hear this exact message when one of these goes off...
weatherdan882002 4 years ago
yeah they are all differant.
