They're calling it Mono-Blue because it only produces Blue mana. If you through a Dismember into a Mono-Green, does that make it Green with a splash of Black?, Umm not really. If their were Mountains in his deck that would be a different story.

@ShadowdragonYamiryu In the Modern format, nobody ever intends to pay the cost for the Pacts. Instead, you win the game on the turn you play Pact and you don't have to worry about paying for it on the next turn. Summoner's Pact is for Progenitus, which is discarded to play Blazing Shoal and win the game on the spot.

If the opponent has a counterspell to the winning combo or removal to break it apart, there's Pact of Negation to protect the combo. That's another Pact he never intends to pay for.

I'd do a green/blue version and toss in Fauna Shamans to fetch up the Progenitus, at which point you could run 4 easily. Still want to get my blighted agents signed by Sam Black :D

@Moxbound You don't more than 8 red bigcard to pitch, the Drgstorm could be find with peer so it's better than proge, and tolaria west can transmute into things more interesting than Gpact-proge, so basically, if you want to add more proge, just add more tolaria west.

This was the most tuned deck of the tournament. Every card choice is solid, and I wouldn't change anything in hindsight.

This deck seems resilient to hate. I predict that Blazing Shoal will end up getting banned on the next announcement.

And yes, the deck is monoblue, because it only needs blue mana to function. All the nonblue spells in the deck are free, so they may as well be colorless. That would be like saying "Monogreen Eldrazi" is a misnomer.

That's a nice deck, seems clever. The thing I'm seeing with this format, though, is "4x preordain 4x ponder" plus more builds. Maybe they should unban Mental Misstep.

Unbanning Mental Misstep would actually make things worse. A lot of these combo decks would LOVE access to another free counterspell. They would profit more from that unbanning than the rest of the field. And aggro decks would needlessly suffer.

@WimpyMcWeaksauce I'm not so sure about that. It's not a free counterspell for anything. The reason its so powerful is its ability to counter stuff when you're on the play. Countering Spell pierce or Path to Exile doesn't make these decks stronger. The strongest card against almost all of these combo decks has been Gaddock Teeg, right? And no Aether Vials are in the top decks if I'm not mistaken. So how does aggro suffer? MM will counter nacatl, but so will Lightning bolt.

Infect needs to die in a fire. It's such a shitty ability. Makes so many other abilities pointless. Regenerate, Indestructible, Lifelink to name just a few. And proliferate makes it insane. Ruined FNM cos nearly everyone runs some kind of infect cos its such a cheap way to win -_-

Pointless? Every ability should have an answer. Just because Infect answers three abilities that newbies tend to like, doesn't mean it should be banned. And this tournament was Modern, not Standard. Infect doesn't do very well in Standard at all. If people are playing lots of Infect decks at your FNMs, you should be playing Exarch Twin. Or a deck with lots of removal.
