  • Rakim and Nas. The God Mc and God's Son.

  • Rakim & Nas .. the 2 greatest..

  • Alicia's part was way too long

  • im the only london nigga with a new york state of mind! ahh llool this is better than a jays version but jayz one is sick, that just shows how on a different level this is. Ny State of Mind

  • Comment removed

  • NAS KILLED IT.....ALICIA KEYS KILLED IT.....DJ PREMIER KILLED IT........& RAKIM REALLY KILLED IT

  • damn fml i liked this song when it was at 420 :(

  • nas and rakim should get together and make a album called the last legends standing shit i would buy that. come on nas and rakim you both are still rapping get together dam

  • rakim the best

  • Rakim murders this track!

  • 12 people are completely clueless.

  • @82password More like 12 people have sense... make that 13.

  • @xAntJaY Nah, 13 people are still clueless. Don't worry, you're included in the 13.

  • @82password Have you even listened to this song...? Have you even ever listened to Nas? This "remix" is an insult to his song New York State of Mind.

  • @xAntJaY Let me school you real quick. I love Nas and his original version of this song. DJ Premier produced that as well as this version. Alicia then put Nas on the track and added Rakim "The God" on there as well. It would be an insult if she tried to remake it without the original team, but she didn't. She stayed true to the essence of hip hop. Anyone familiar with Nas, Premo or Rakim can feel me, maybe this is why you don't get it!

  • @82password The fact is, although the song was made with the original team, the mix is just plain bad.

  • @xAntJaY No, the fact is 404 people are correct. Women lie, men lie, numbers don't. Remember that!

  • @82password Numbers CAN lie, they lie all the time. Anyway, the "Numbers" come from a very select group of people, 417 to be precise, not showing the full number of Nas' fans who I guarantee would not like this. Nas' early music was perfect; using the correct production for an intro, and then a quite contrasting beat for the verse. The fact is, this remix used the intro from N.Y. state of mind looped for the main backing track for the verse. It just does not go.

  • Any track that gets DJ Premier & Ra some pop shine and turns people onto a classic can't be a bad thing.

  • RAKIM ALL DAY

  • wat does nas say about sadam who sain???

  • @frank5686 looking at his dead childrens burned remains

  • 0:31 YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! Stillmatic!!!

  • rakim sounds like prodigy

  • @massshysteria Other way round: that midget with the receding hairline sounds like Rakim.

  • @MobKnowledge lol thats fucked up XD but give respect where respect is due hes still a QB hip-hop pioneer...

  • @massshysteria You mean Prodigy sounds like Rakim!

  • Nobody does it better than NAS!!!

  • one + two = three the hard way!

  • when are people gonna stop discussing and fighing over music videos,, just sit back, relax and enjoy the music..

  • Nas is always on another level. Nas is to Leonardo DaVinci as Lil Wayne is to a finger-painting toddler.

  • "The P's breed warriors in skullies and timbies/around micks, spics, niggas, and guineas"

  • all jay z fans say is listen to his old shit...reasonable doubt..blah blah blah...shit is so overrated..i wonder if jay asked nas if he can steal this idea and make it to a hip pop song? Long live nas

  • I'd rather just hear NaS on this to be honest.....

  • @hairloop27 your a real idiot if your gonna make a statement know what you talking about , alica liked the track and did it over with a new nas verse and rakim ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

  • @iysisrose Now, I'm not gonna call you stupid for not making a comprehensible sentence, but I really don't know what you're trying to say here. Am I an idiot for trying to make a statement? Or for making a statement that isn't true? And really, I don't even know what falsehood in my statement you're trying to point out. Really, it just makes you look like the idiot if you can't form a real, or even understandable, sentence. And it also makes it really hard to respond.

  • @hairloop27 Forget my spelling and sentence structure, The falsehood in your statement that i was trying to point out is that the beat is the same from illmatic except for one part, and both nas and rakim wrote lyrics for this particular collaboration (2003) , Great track a real treat alicia did it as a fan herself and i love her for it, enjoy it

  • Loving the hostility on here. Can I try.... CHOKE ON A FRIKKIN CREAM BUN AND DYE (YOUR HAIR AN AMUSING COLOUR) YOU SONS OF WOMEN. Yeah, feels good to get that off my chest. By the way I think Jay Z SUCKS A BIG FAT JUICY throat lozenge when he has a sore throat. So there...

  • real black

  • Rakim tore this beat up without even trying. His flow is fuckin perfection!

  • @defpunch06 nah no fucking way, rakim went hard but nas kiled it man!

  • @jackieblam

Nah I agree nas got down, but Im just saying Rakims flow was impeccable. They both legends real talk.

  • @defpunch06 yeah we'll leave at that they both went hard!

  • real hip-hop isnt commercial. we know that. it's a coin toss... would you rather be rich, with no soul? or all heart, moderate success, and a legendary rep?.... hmm....

  • more nas & rakim less alicia... who agrees?

  • @tomek45654 FUCK YOU.

  • @tomek45654

    Shes still fine as fuck!

  • @tomek45654 fuck you, MORE ALICIA

  • @wufutofu pfffffffff... i dont give a fuck about her singing so fuck you more nas and rakim

  • @wufutofu pfffffffff... i dont give a fuck about her singing so fuck you more nas and rakim

  • @wufutofu pfffffffff... i dont give a fuck about her singing so fuck you more nas and rakim

  • @tomek45654 =zbgYJd4mIks

    you're welcome ;)

  • @tomek45654 lol yeah lets have a bunch of dudes rapping and not have one the hottest and best female singers in the game kill the hook.... u a lil homo dog? Leave Alicia for me then

  • @KushPizzaSleep listen man... show me where i said she aint hot, show me... u cant - bitch, cause i didnt say that. all i said is theres too much of her, shes "killin tha hook" for 3 FUCKING MINUTES... and i came here to hear rakim and nas spit so fuck you there IS TOO MUCH OF HER HERE...

  • nas and rakim both have really good cases to be called the greatest rapper of all-time, and the new york state of mind beat by premier is sick too.

  • Rakim flowing over N.Y state of mind....

    nuff said.

  • Why didn't this blow up in 2003?

  • @citizenzombie cause the raps were to real

  • @citizenzombie i bet cause it aint commercial assssssssssssss

  • @alban4doom It was a rhetorical question.

  • NAS and RAKIM on one track ILL and ALICIAs part is good too

  • @AfroDevful they're together on classic by dj premier too with krs one

  • This song needed more rakim.

  • I never heard this, hot to death...

  • Now that's the Rakim I know!

  • Rakims verse is so fucking ILLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

  • @ShutTheFuckUp0809 fo realllllllllllllll !!

  • RAKIM IS THE GREATEST MC, LYRICIST, RAPPER...WHATEVA U WANNA CALL HIM IN REGARDST TO RAPPIN, HE IS THAT....

  • Wow @that metropolis line, rakim killed that shit.

  • Heard dis song years ago in skool, was infactuated with nas at tha time and thought dis was tha best ting i ever heard-lethal remix!

  • Nas is like , Earth , Wind and Fire. Forever.

  • "The eve of the Apocolypse, evil be movin politics

every block is at risk, the metropolitan metropilis

The opposite of Liza Minelli and Frank Sinatra

Alicia Keys Nas and Ra the gangsta's opera"

Possibly my favorite line from Tha God. So creative. I love both Nas and Ra to death, but Ra proved to his follower that he's like a fine wine, only getting better with age.

  • the only other song where both these legends collab is on kanye wests classic dj premo mix

  • is this real or is it a remix? and if its a mix, where is the rakim verse from?

  • @zsilvah This is real. I remember when it came out.

  • premier rapes beats.

  • the fiend of a microphone

  • Gritty wit and smooth..what not too love

  • this joint is mad gritty, like the NY i know and love

    Barauch Projects til I die

  • i found out that this track is the bonus track of "the diary of alicia keys" uk & japanese edition

  • fuck jay z he wishes he was nas he references nas shit his whole career

  • @chadisolano well i repp brook wit jay so hey when nas released he was the beastt never the least big would eat them both and he went from one coast holdin toast for the other my brother stay true to you and do whaat pleases the true lord hoards of cash won't last repp will satnd and fall but whaat you call on is the most important it makes me naucious to think of it otherwise still don't let me hold you rise NY state of mind peace up ouriginuw MAD HAVOK the DRAMATIK NOBLE

  • @chadisolano They both wish they could be Rakim

  • @chadisolano jay z wishes he was as good as naz... but im sure naz wishes he was as successful as jay z

  • @chadisolano who first rapped wit aaliyah?

    who first rapped alicia(worrio's song)?

and empire state's original had nas but jay changed his mind scared of nas's verse

just helpin u educated the slow bastards

  • "The opposite of Liza Minnelli and Frank Sinatra--Alicia Keys, Nas and Ra for the gangster's opera"

  • Nothing comes near NY state of mind.

    Great beat and lyrics.

  • jay z's empire state of mind SUCKS! huge POP SONG MAN! thats not hip hop!

that song is gonna die by next year, i listened to it 2 times and im fkn tired of it.....that song is all about alicia keys, trust me nothing special dude...every hip hop song out nowadays sounds exactly like empire state of bullshit!

NY state of mind and this is way better, its unique, amazing lyrics, and it will never die! meaning of CLASSIC

  • @ThumbsUpMike Yo, If only Nas Could Spit Like this ALL the TIME........

  • @gingeraleandvodka nas can if he felt like it...the music industry wont allow it

  • @ThumbsUpMike no way man empire state of mind was fuking good, and still is, ill admit this is better but idont think empire state of mind will fade

  • @rakimisking i trust me dude its fading!

its gonna fade out and be a outcast....it will never reach classic!

songs like that are only nice to hear once and then you get fkn annoyed with the pop shit in it cuz you get tired of it!

empire state of mind is only good cuz of the pop sensational chorus from alicia keys......jay z singing about fame like he always does in every song means nothing....alicia keys is he main focus and eventually ppl will get enough of it

  • @ThumbsUpMike,

Actually the only thing Pop well actually R & B about it was the Alicia Keys and Nas was going to be featured on the song but he was too busy doing Distant Relatives which is a shame becuase Nas would have been on the biggest Hip Hop song in a while. Now nobody saying Empire State of Mind is better but it was an awesome song. Plus you have to give the song some props for sounding classic.

  • @ThumbsUpMike Man Alicia Keys Makes that song and it wouldn't be anything without her. Real Talk. How perfect would that song have been with a Nas or a Mos Def? I really wish someone would mix that and take Jay out and Put one of those guys in it.

  • @ThumbsUpMike it didnt die loser.....its better than this...

  • @sandroeleven right...cuz hearing aicia keys just scream new york new york new york nonstop while jay z sings about his conceited shitty self the whole time makes a great song............

    learn what real music is

  • @ThumbsUpMike That is your opinion of the track. I dont consider this that great. Jay does a great job vocally. He doesnt just mish mash a bunch of words together. You can understand him. Nas is great also. Why the hate for Jay?

  • @sandroeleven i dont hate jay z......sometimes i get pissed at the dude especially when he steals concepts and lyrics from Nas and other rappers. empire state of mind....that song was a definite stolen concept from nas's ny state of mind

my problem with Jay Z is hes overrated....he was always overrated to me!

his lyrics are low quality, there never deep, barely ever about truth with reality

all he ever sings about is i got so much money and i'm HOV! THE GOD! HOVVVVVVV BITCHES! NEW YORK! :/

  • @ThumbsUpMike his latest music is shit yeh. but hes not overrated. all styles are different & hes a very smart MC. listen to his old stuff even some of his new shit n u'l see. * nas has stolen plenty concepts aswel from pharoe monch. etc.. it don't matter, just appreciate the good muic. n listen to in my lifetime &~ reasonable doubt.

  • @s44chn i have listened to jay z's older stuff

jay z is very overrated even back then....he was never as lyrical as a true MC....he was never deep with his shit

compared to Nas, Rakim, Big L.....jay z seriously looks like lil wayne!

  • @ThumbsUpMike never was deep? you might wanna go back and check his shit out again

and lyrically Jay-Z is was one of the most clever emcees of all time far from overrated

  • @cm3003 than you have low standards when it comes to hip hop and clearly have never truly listened to Nas, Rakim, AZ, Big L, Immortal Technique, Tupac, and the list goes on

Jay Z had a decent run back in his mediocre "emcee" days

many years later, look how real Nas still is rapping for like 20 years

look at how whack jay z is to this day and the past decade!

he aint shit, if he is to you then fine idc what your opinions are

    but try to factualize shit

  • @ThumbsUpMike wait so since i think Jay is one of the most clever lyricists that means i never truly listened to those artist? the fuck does that even mean....

you act like im discrediting those artist when minus Tech i love all those rappers.

but if Reasonable Doubt and Bp1 are mediocre then you must have pretty high standards and even now he's still dropping dope shit (American Gangster).

  • @cm3003 blueprint 1 was a good album but isnt great

american gangster was a inconsistent album, means it was okay

now if your basing his skill on a mainstream level he does great shit!

if your like me and basing him on true rap(more so underground material) then hes just another whatever rapper nothing special and has moments

Jay z's lyrics ever since day one has always been on a steady decline

Its not like hes writing deep rhymes that relate to reality

    they usually relate to himself

  • @ThumbsUpMike there is no such thing as true rap its just good music or bad music fuck that.

and to say he's not writing deep shit is bull on RD he had D'Evils and Can I Live now those are just 2 songs but for the sake of not wanting to list ALL his deep/relate able songs i chose those 2.

he isn't one of the deep/emotional rappers in the first place thats just not him but that doesn't mean he cant put some real shit out.

  • @ThumbsUpMike and songs like History show he is far from on the decline lyrically

  • @cm3003 one song isnt gonna convince me

thats like these typical lil wayne fans

lil wayne does good with 6'7(even though it was just full of punchlines) and now his fans is claimed the best lyricist alive now

    thats just ignorant

  • @ThumbsUpMike im not trying to convince you and like before i wasnt trying to list ALL the songs i think are lyrical from Jay

  • @ThumbsUpMike your right, lil wayne is no where as good as nas and rah. but lil wayne is good when hes been a featured artist for like nas & damian marley and game, but no where as good as nas. nas is the best lyricist now but rakim is dope and they both have flow and lyrics and a voice that isnt annoying. cause did lil wayne release an album that changed hip-hop?lol

  • @Baiju900 yes lil wayne made an album that changed hip hop

every album he makes changes hip hop for the worse for me:/

  • this track is better than empire state of mind...more better! about the lyric i cannot talk cause i dont understand it,

    ESPAÑA RAP CALLE

  • FIEND OF A MICROPHONE

  • is this a real song or is it just a really good remix? either way its dope

  • illmatic N.Y.State of Mind

  • @bulldogsupert221 ok i thought so i just wasnt sure, where are the nas and alicia keys parts from though?

  • Just Nas on that track

  • @bulldogsupert221 i know thats a nas track its the second one on ilmatic, im asking where the rakim and alicia keys parts come from?

  • I think it's official. It has the beat from New York State of Mind but if you listen carefully, you'll hear this is a New Nas verse. rakim's part is also new

  • Rakim also names alicia keys in his verse, so t must be real

  • Rakim and Nas should collaborate... that would make my day... no, it'd make my life

  • @insaneskigga0830 they have collaborated, the song is called classic, krs-one and kanye west were also on the song its pretty ill

  • o ya ive heard of it. actually have it on my ipod now. thanks for the direction

  • I'd like to return to the ...to the ...to the ... haha quality song

  • @zsilvah,

Nas needs to get Premo, Pete Rock, Q-Tip, 9th Wonder, Kanye, Jay Electronica, No I.D., Just Blaze and only feature J. Cole and Jay Electronica as features for his next album.

  • Nas has a song called UBR (Unauthorized Biography of Rakim) on Streets' Disciple I think it is

A Rakim-Nas collabo album would be incredible

  • while I don't think it ever led to anything really serious Rakim did not appreciate UBR simply because he said at least at the time that Nas did not come to him before or after releasing the song. Rakim especially didnt like Nas mentioning his kids by name something Rakim has never done himself in a record. like is said im sure that they smoothed all that over but Rakim was kinda pissed at that one

  • Straight Fire!

  • nas and rakim on the same track = dope. add big L to it and you got the top 3 mc's ever.

  • could not agree to this more

  • great song....

  • Nas got murked on this.

  • what a fucking classic nas and rakim its fucking over the untouchables

  • nas and rakim its fucking over two of the greatest mc still today what a fucking classic

  • the original empire state of mind. don't get it twisted.

  • Comment removed

  • NOW THATS HIP HOP YO

  • Hey is this an actual remix or did someone collab this??

  • its not a remix

  • thnx

  • Alot of footsteps to follow I've been steppin

  • real music legends on this track!

  • Comment removed

  • ok so first of all this song was made way before Empire state of mind... and its not like Jay-z because Nas didnt sell out as much as Jay Z. All Jay wants is the money rather than putting out good music

  • yea I prefer NY State of Mind over Empire State Of Mind

NY State of Mind is more gritty and realistic

But Empire State Of Mind is upbeat and it's more pop oriented.

  • maybe it deserved to play. truth is, even you know it's commercial crap. be honest.

  • okay

how bout new york state of mind?

that deserved to be played over empire state of mind

its more famous(maybe not today but overall its one of the most famous rap songs ever made)

and ITS ON THE BEST HIP HOP ALBUM OF ALL TIME WITH MANY LEGENDARY BEST HIP HOP SONGS FROM NAS!

  • @blantonaaron

    why is it not marketable?

ye its grimey, but its still got knowledge. Might not b "dance" enough, but I aint gunna b dancing round my room to Empire state of mind either.

  • mabe cuz they took the beat from wtc
