@OnegodG Why would he want to sell it when he does it better by himself? Why bring other ppl into the process, just so they can screw it up? I say, keep it real, keep it random. :)
why dont you ask the fans to help you. in that you send a giant petition to both companys if they see that alot of fans of the comics support you they may be willing to comply to your desire for a dvd. you may have to pay royalties but its a small price 2 pay.
Answer me this... What's so difficult about going down to New-York, and asking both the presidents of Marvel, and DC for permission to use their characters in The RandomVerse, and the marketing of DVDs for Seasons 1, and 2? Wait I think I know neither will agree to it... Which is sad because this is some good stuff.
Don't read this. In 1771 a boy named Ernie was walking in the woods alone and then he disappeared. Two years later, a girl named Rose found him dead with a knife down his throat. And then, one day later, they found Rose dead in her room. If you do not copy and paste this onto ten other videos bye 12:00 midnight, he will murder you in your room. If you do, then your crush will kiss you
Loving the stuff, just discovered it. How about selling T-shirts with quotes on? surely the script is copyrighted to the randoms (except the stuff ripped off from, sorry, homages to other movies etc... )

You guys do great work and should be rewarded for it. I'll be placing my order shortly. I consider it an investment in high quality, low cost entertainment.
I'm amazed that marvel hasn't shown you more support, you're quite obviously a True Believer, but alas the days when that mattered are long since passed. the real problem is that most of the characters, when appearing on film, are not even controlled by Marvel or DC but by the studios who optioned the movies. they should change the copyrights so that the characters can legally reappear on the web. you should be seeking work as a voice actor, you're extremely talented.
You really should just go and ask Marvel and DC permission to use their characters. I don't know, isn't your thing a parody? Doesn't that give you some kind of loophole?
but u dont know how much time they need to w8 to get the appointment & etc, its not that easy to go and ask a permission but I totaly agree they should do it.
You got any of those shirts left that RandomGal spoke fondly of with scissors in hand when you were at the NY Comic Con?? Is this the reason for raising money??
part 2- granted most parody song writers respect the artists and as a courtesy they usually get permission from the original artist, but by law this is not necessary as long as it is done in parody with new/ modified words. The difference between the Vanilla Ice example and a parody is Vanilla Ice lost based on a few bars because his work was serious (at keast ti him anyway) and directly copied other work. If Vanilla Ice had written a song parody using the same bars of music he would have won.
part 1- ref what's a parody and what isn't and the fact that mad magazine changes the names of the characters. It is all subject to court oppinion, IMO IJSRG would win but is it worth all the pain, costs and burnt bridges it might cause. David Bowie sued Vanilla Ice and won for him exactly copying a few bars of music. Parody song writers can legally change use every bar of existing music w/ out songwriters permission and a slong as they change the words and use as parody they are g-to-g.
yeah but the parody has to be technically different from the source material, and as they use actual action figures and names, it would still be copyright infringement
If this was copyright infringement, then it would be violating the terms of service of YouTube and all of IJSRG's videos would be removed. Parody can use the names and images of the source material and not be infringement. Example: Mad Magazine who's done literally hundreds of parodys on Marvel & DC characters.
But what could happen is Marvel/DC could pursue legal action anyway which would incur huge legal fees for IJSRG.
You are missing a few facts Michaela. First, MAD magazine has never spoofed ANY Marvel or DC characters. Perhaps they may do parodies of BatDude or Spider-Guy, and perhaps these characters may have a Resemblance to certain Marvel and DC characters, but they would certainly never steal those copyrighted characters.
Speaking simply, they chance character names and thereby have a loophole.
Also, it not illegal to parody copyrighted materials As Long As you do not make a profit off it.
And Marvel already has a history of doing just that. Just ask Jim Shooter and Defiant comics. Or don't. Marvel put them out of business (and lost a lawsuit doing it)
Sorry if this question has been asked before, but it just came to mind...is it 3.50 for one commentary or all of them?
Also, well...of course, you're used to wild fan praise, so I'll just say this much: you rock, you deserved to be worshipped (not as a holy figure, but just as someone extremely important), and to sum up all of your vids in one word...awesome.
for some reason...announcing ambiguity like "it's just some random _____" is so hilarious...sounds like a spoof!

Getting short on money, ay? Well then I bet that offer of a free The Mandarin doll is looking pretty sweet right about now! You know my price: give The Mandarin a scene where he gets to karate-chop something. It can be a table. Or he karate-can chop someone's head off. Don't much care what it is, so long as it's not something inherently humiliating like poop. No karate-chopping poop if you want your free doll.
T-shirts are the key to make some money. Some people already have given you some ideas. Take those ideas plus yours and I think you'll succeed. I will buy your comments but I will do it next week, cuz' I' short of money right now. By the way I am from Mexico and I am a fan of you guys since video 1, Hi I'm a Marvel and I am a DC. Your videos are the best. and remember t-shirts...t.shirts
Only 3.50? You should get more than that so I'll get two. If you feel you can't get the hundreds or thousands of T-shirts you might need to sell, first just try getting twenty or so. Then just autograph 'em and auction them off. That shouldn't be hard to pull off.
dude you rock, seriously. people who accuse you of things need to shut up because they couldnt do better. the VAST majority of us love your stuff. so keep it up, and dont look back.ever thought of getting marvel/DC to endorse your stuff??
dude of course there will be haters. But people will see through the hate. Blocking free speach, I can't see through that. There are NO negative comments....they were all over the line / innapropriate?? I can see deleting some, but ALL? I'll chalk this up to an honest over zealous mistake, as I think you are just taking this to heart as it is a tremendous work you have produced for free so far. For the record I otherwise love you. There I said my $10.50 worth, hopefully u see the light
Just to be clear, if you look further up the list of ALL of the comments, you will see that there are a number of negative comments I have left up. The person in question accused us of stealing. How can we not be expected to respond to an inflammatory comment like that? We deleted the accusatory/offensive comments, that is all. We are all for free speech, but we will not tolerate baseless and false accusations. For the record, thank you for your support.
Also, just FYI, the price for all of the commentaries combined is $3.50. The person above paid an extra $7.00 because he was being generous, which is appreciated.
Why can't I delete comments on my own videos? The person in question whose comments I deleted was being rather accusatory, which I did not appreciate. His comment was also untrue, so I cleared it up with another comment. We did not start this. We are simply trying to ask for some support. It is rather disheartening to see this kind of reaction, I must say.
It is legal to sell the commentaries because we are only selling a recording of us talking. Selling the videos would be a problem. This is how it is legal for RiffTrax to sell commentaries to movies they don't own the rights to.
random dude- in regards to be advised againt a DVD by "the powers that be"- I guess you refer to marvel / DC? Of course they would advise againt it. I think it's legal (took 2 MBA law classes), but you might burn bridges and have to endure litigation (even though I think you would win, it would be paiful). Good work around to sell commentary. Also maybe you can sell the toys through your website? Maybe sell your own "unique" toys? Maybe get advertisers to pay you for product placement?
I really hope this works for you guys! I'm sorry that I cannot donate (or buy the commentary for that matter), I wish I had more money to support great stuff like that :(
The problem with getting a donate button is that you need to be approved by PayPal as a non-profit organization. If you don't want the commentaries, but would still like to help the cause...why not just place an order or two (or more) and just delete the e-mails once you get them?
Not so. Donations aren't restricted to non-profit corporations; people are allowed to give money to anyone they please, you'll just have to claim it as income. I've been working with PayPal for many years and I can assure you that you'll be able to create a donation button without verifying so much as your identity.
Also...for those of you giving away free legal advice....if you're lawyers, great, you guys step up too against Marvel and start building the case. If not, then I'm pretty sure these people did their research. Lay off the advice, and drop a few coins in the jar.
To all those who "Need to get some money to donate"
To all of you who are saying "I WANT to support this..I REALLY REALLY DO!!!!"
Step up. It's $3.50. For me in Canada, It's $4.41. But it's way better than some of the comic books I've bought in the last year, and theres way more content within 50 videos to last a lifetime.
Seriously....stop your posturing and drop a few bucks in the jar.
To get away with selling DVDs of your videos you need to think outside the box, or about, rather. Make the DVDs free gifts with the purchase of the box they'll be shipped in! Perfectly legal. Better yet, say that the box will include just some random DVD for filler. OR, Just Some Random Music Instrument made out of a box and a Random DVD to make the music. It's not your fault if people destroy the your handicraft. Loop holes are all around, you just need to look for them.
The price is $3.50, folks. I can't believe people are complaining about the price! It's a bargain!
Just a note, tho, there is no playlist for Goblin Bloggin' which might impact his viewership and using that part of the commentary.
But it was all fun to listen to. I think Randomgirl's contributions really came out there where it doesn't so much just watching the videos. Great collaboration! It's worth every penny, especially if we get more videos.$3.50 is cheaper than most comic books!
There IS a playlist for Goblin Bloggin'! Just click "See All Playlists" under the three playlists on the channel. You will then be taken to a page will ALL of our playlists, including Goblin Bloggin'!
you actually can sell your dvd you are protected by the parody act as long as in the beaning of your dvd you state that you are not the creators of the characters and give popper credit to marvel and dc your good
I ordered the files on Thursday, got them Friday and just finished listening to them today. All four files are awesome and thanks for doing this! Great commentaries and totally worth it!
Sorry about the neighbors though, I appreciate it though.
have you guys tried packaging this and tying to sell to one the cable networks like spike tV , MTV or that video game network. i know you 'll probably have hard tim with cartoon network because the format has a strong resemblance to ROBOT CHICKEN and they don't want to confuse their inebriated audience , however there are far too many channels out there today who would love to pick up an inexpensive show such as yours
How do the Robot Chicken guys get away with making money off the toys then? Note to Seth Green hire Random Guy and Random Girl as you are way better than anything on Robot Chicken.
actualy, i think if u put some legal writing in the begining maybe u can sell the series- if southpark can do it- y cant u??

T-shirts are the key to make some money. Some people already have given you some ideas. Take those ideas plus yours and I think you'll succeed. I will buy your comments but I will do it next week, cuz' I' short of money right now. By the way I am from Mexico and I am a fan of you guys since video 1, Hi I'm a Marvel and I am a DC. Your videos are the best. and remember t-shirts...t.shirts

Great Job Guys.
KevinNewcomer 3 years ago
You know what'd be AWESOME. A hulk "Security" shirt... Good times...
DarkfireLancer 3 years ago 4
Only 3.50? You should get more than that so I'll get two. If you feel you can't get the hundreds or thousands of T-shirts you might need to sell, first just try getting twenty or so. Then just autograph 'em and auction them off. That shouldn't be hard to pull off.

These are the best videos on the internet. Please make a DVD.
tragicallyhip4ever 3 years ago 2
you can take donations and offer a free DVD as a reward for donating.
TSKB 3 years ago 2
Yay! I'm glad you guys found a way around the copyright stuff so that you could make more videos. These are my fav. vids on the internet!!

gotta satisfy those random needs... all of them!
ubehageligt 3 years ago
Just so I understand: Does the $3.50 include ALL the comentaries, or are they $3.50 each?
NATEdamnZ 3 years ago
It's $3.50 for ALL of them!

Combined!

dude you rock, seriously. people who accuse you of things need to shut up because they couldnt do better. the VAST majority of us love your stuff. so keep it up, and dont look back.ever thought of getting marvel/DC to endorse your stuff??

Thanks, man. I appreciate that!

wonderllama4 3 years ago
dude of course there will be haters. There I said my $10.50 worth, hopefully u see the light
dowhatuliketodo 3 years ago
Just to be clear, if you look further up the list of ALL of the comments, you will see that there are a number of negative comments I have left up. The person in question accused us of stealing. How can we not be expected to respond to an inflammatory comment like that? We deleted the accusatory/offensive comments, that is all. We are all for free speech, but we will not tolerate baseless and false accusations. For the record, thank you for your support.
ItsJustSomeRandomGuy 3 years ago
Also, just FYI, the price for all of the commentaries combined is $3.50. The person above paid an extra $7.00 because he was being generous, which is appreciated.
ItsJustSomeRandomGuy 3 years ago
Why can't I delete comments on my own videos? The person in question whose comments I deleted was being rather accusatory, which I did not appreciate. His comment was also untrue, so I cleared it up with another comment. We did not start this. We are simply trying to ask for some support. It is rather disheartening to see this kind of reaction, I must say.
ItsJustSomeRandomGuy 3 years ago
Have you thought of creating your own characters so you could sue other random people?
solvseus 3 years ago
kudos to your entrepreneurial spirit! all the best!
fxfranz 3 years ago
It is legal to sell the commentaries because we are only selling a recording of us talking. Selling the videos would be a problem. This is how it is legal for RiffTrax to sell commentaries to movies they don't own the rights to.
ItsJustSomeRandomGuy 3 years ago
But what if I want to support RandomCat?
hahayouarefunny 3 years ago
dude I would seriously pay money for a live action video with randomgal dressed up as wonder woman. think about it.

Irelevantmastr 3 years ago
random dude- in regards to be advised againt a DVD by "the powers that be"- I guess you refer to marvel / DC? Of course they would advise againt it. I think it's legal (took 2 MBA law classes), but you might burn bridges and have to endure litigation (even though I think you would win, it would be paiful). Good work around to sell commentary. Also maybe you can sell the toys through your website? Maybe sell your own "unique" toys? Maybe get advertisers to pay you for product placement?
rob12332100 3 years ago 2
lol....
I love all this stuff.
made me laff.
I just want to know, WHERE IS RANDOMCAT?? HMMM?
TrampolineRasslingUK 3 years ago 2
I really hope this works for you guys! I'm sorry that I cannot donate (or buy the commentary for that matter), I wish I had more money to support great stuff like that :(
plasticmodels 3 years ago
How about including a paypal donate button on your website. For those who don't want to buy anything, but would like to donate to the cause?
Oh, and the website background hurt my brain. :-)
elizabeththesaurus 3 years ago
The problem with getting a donate button is that you need to be approved by PayPal as a non-profit organization. If you don't want the commentaries, but would still like to help the cause...why not just place an order or two (or more) and just delete the e-mails once you get them?
ItsJustSomeRandomGuy 3 years ago
Not so. Donations aren't restricted to non-profit corporations; people are allowed to give money to anyone they please, you'll just have to claim it as income. I've been working with PayPal for many years and I can assure you that you'll be able to create a donation button without verifying so much as your identity.
jrtman 3 years ago
Also...for those of you giving away free legal advice....if you're lawyers, great, you guys step up too against Marvel and start building the case. If not, then I'm pretty sure these people did their research. Lay off the advice, and drop a few coins in the jar.
syxxblade 3 years ago 2
To all those who will 'Seriously Consider it"
To all those who "Need to get some money to donate"
To all of you who are saying "I WANT to support this..I REALLY REALLY DO!!!!"
Step up. It's $3.50. For me in Canada, It's $4.41. But it's way better than some of the comic books I've bought in the last year, and theres way more content within 50 videos to last a lifetime.
Seriously....stop your posturing and drop a few bucks in the jar.
syxxblade 3 years ago
To get away with selling DVDs of your videos you need to think outside the box, or about, rather. Make the DVDs free gifts with the purchase of the box they'll be shipped in! Perfectly legal. Better yet, say that the box will include just some random DVD for filler. OR, Just Some Random Music Instrument made out of a box and a Random DVD to make the music. It's not your fault if people destroy the your handicraft. Loop holes are all around, you just need to look for them.

I have random needs; can I order popcorn there? And love?

therealdarkknight525 3 years ago
The price is $3.50, folks. I can't believe people are complaining about the price! It's a bargain!
Just a note, tho, there is no playlist for Goblin Bloggin' which might impact his viewership and using that part of the commentary.
But it was all fun to listen to. I think Randomgirl's contributions really came out there where it doesn't so much just watching the videos. Great collaboration! It's worth every penny, especially if we get more videos.$3.50 is cheaper than most comic books!
MrDage 3 years ago
There IS a playlist for Goblin Bloggin'! Just click "See All Playlists" under the three playlists on the channel. You will then be taken to a page will ALL of our playlists, including Goblin Bloggin'!

Will do. But as for whether it's justice or not, I suggest having a long talk with Cory Doctorow.
samo314159 3 years ago
you actually can sell your dvd you are protected by the parody act as long as in the beaning of your dvd you state that you are not the creators of the characters and give popper credit to marvel and dc your good
samusachick 3 years ago
Not quite as simple as that. We asked some people associated with the Powers That Be about a dvd, and were advised against it.

have you guys tried packaging this and tying to sell to one the cable networks like spike tV , MTV or that video game network. i know you 'll probably have hard tim with cartoon network because the format has a strong resemblance to ROBOT CHICKEN and they don't want to confuse their inebriated audience , however there are far too many channels out there today who would love to pick up an inexpensive show such as yours
Urbanvizion 3 years ago
dude..... I thought marvel gave you a job, if not.... why not just get hired by robot chicken as a writer.... This is why they pay me the big bucks
