Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham is simply unnecessarily excessive in every way - it is like an emotional cash cow.

This movie remains as one of the best in bollywood because it shows a situation which happens a lot these days, i.e., a family getting separated due to issues between parents and children. Westerners may feel that this movie is over-dramatized because their family values are not as strong (generally)

@lolnekoyuki: FInally a sensible answer. I grew up in India. I do see family values in this movie. These situations happen. However, each dialogue in K3G is made with the intention of being a "tear-jerker". My problem with it lies there. I recognize that most people in India go to the movies to spend 3 hours in a sort of "fantasy world" where they can escape the harshness of their own lives - and there is a good thing. I think emotions shown in "Taare Zameen Par" or even Swadesh (SRK) ring true.

Not a single character is believable/realistic, Kareena Kapoor's acting is unbelievably bad, the entire filmography is mediocre at best, they draw minor characters and music from previous Karan Johar movies, the movie is too slow even if you watch at 2X speed, there is ZERO literary value in it. It is just a pile of EMOTIONAL TRASH!
