  • I remember the last time I went here was 06 or 07 and I was finally tall enough to ride this- it makes me sad that I only got to ride it once before they took it down.

  • This ride is no where NEAR TTD or Kingda Ka, its uses a way different launching Mechanism. If you didn't know TTD and Kingda Ka copied Xcelerator, that was THE original hydraulic lauch coaster in the entire world. Nuff said

  • i thought there was nothing there for a minute i was like, they're gonna crash lol :P

  • I rode this with a stuffy nose once. The launch pushed all of the snot to the back of my mouth and down my throat.

  • Pov videos usualy dont show how high drops are/speed and this looks like an intense launch from the pov. It has to be fricken scary

  • fuck this....this aint for humans :P

  • They need to rebuild it! I HAVEN'T EVEN RIDDEN IT AT ALL!

Let alone they need people to know how to fix it too :(

  • @LilSceneAnnie as a employee, its not because they didnt no how to fix it, it was because the ride was expensive as hell to run and for maintenence cost. And it does kinda suck that they took it down.

  • @gostboy56 Ahh. Well Idk why you would build a ride that costed a lot of money to keep running >.>

  • @LilSceneAnnie they built it while it was owned by paramount but after they sold the park to cedar fair, the running cost just kept going up so it was either the park or the coaster

  • @NuclearHotel your mom called you a pussy?!? WTF

  • @KingsDominionGeeky no realy, el darado is a little further to the side, by the way the thing was a good ridance, the damn thing was always broken and only lasted a few seconds.

  • what part of the park was this at?

  • @rutgersfan39 The part near where the Eiffel Tower was before the ride was removed

  • someone died on it i think . but how high does it go ?

  • @KhFamous2 no they didn't... just to much maintenance, and waits were always so long for a extremely short ride.

  • anyone knows why they took it down? i heard it cost 15million so??why

  • ClubBendi, Dodonpa in Japan has a more powerful thrust. It goes 0-100 in 2 seconds. Both Ka and Dragster lack the intensity of the thrust on Hypersonic.

  • this ahit was no whore. I died and came back to life.

  • i was 13 when me and my friend rode this... I had never been more scared

  • I rode like 3 weeks before they took it down. It was so intense too! I miss it

  • before i moved away from VA i used to go to KD alot and ride this ride. why in the name of hell would they take this AWESOME ride down????? its madness!

  • @c13rocker11 it had a lot of downtime(it broke down a lot)

  • People are right, there are other coasters with this kind of acceleration, but this ride, right here, was the FIRST that inspired the madness and dreams of Top Thrill Dragster and Kingda Ka.

I love how this coaster even came about. An S&S designer was pretty much like "What would happen if we took our launch tower ride, put it on it's side, and some how made that a rollercoaster" The rest is history. This was S&S's original Prototype, wasn't made to be forever sadly...

  • @DEFCONx19 im no mathematician, and i agree with everything else that your saying, but are you sure there are rollercoasters that match this kind of acceleration? sure, kingdaka goes 128 miles per house but it takes roughly 31/2 seconds to do that. since it takes less than 2 seconds for this Ride to go 80, i would think that this acceleration would be much "stronger" (i dont know the correct term in this situation) than Kingdaka and TTD. this was my favorite ride and KD broke my heart :'(

  • i remember walking under this and someone was filming on it. their camera flew out of their hands and landed on the bench across from me hahaha.

  • CLACK CLACK CLACK CLACK CLACK CLACK CLACK CLACK CLACK

  • dodonpa

  • This ride was fast!! The launch speed was 0-80 in 1.8 sec!! Not as fast as the dragster, but quicker off the mark. I just wish it was a longer ride, oh well it was fun while it lasted. Nice vid by the way!

  • i went on this shit as my first roller coaster ever. That hydraulic launch jolted me good! lol

  • i m iss that ride.. tears

  • so what this has stealth, thorpe parks, speed AND accelleration?

  • XLC by the way for those who think this is a normal coaster (was) stands for xtreme launch coaster. the acceleration is done with Compressed Air. this was a great ride. cool pov.

  • I'm glad i rode it before they took it out. Didn't know they had taken it out, 'til i saw a few of your comments saying so. It's far from slow, it went about 85 or a little more on the take-off, i remember that! ....Similar to Volcano, The Blast Coaster's launch speed.

  • Looks pretty slow and lame to me

  • I forget... why again did this have such a short life? The launch looks amazing.

  • @MestizoFilipino Maintenance Costs.

  • Nice POV of a ride I'm really sad I never got to experience.

  • this is a lot like the dragster

  • @boyz3512 this is nothing like the DRAGSTER

  • @Culverboyz Are you stupid? this is the original dragster this ride isn't even there anymore it's so old and not only that but it's the same company so fail

  • @boyz3512 Same company

  • @kimmijrockdork No it's not. Dragster is an Intamin designed coaster. Hypersonic was designed as a prototype from S&S. Different company and the launch on dragster is a cable while on XLC it's compressed air.

  • @coolbutt7 I said it was an inspiration and not only that Kings Dominion and Cedar Point are both Cedar Fair parks

  • i hate how people keep saying this is a copy of dragster this ride came years before dragster

  • @ash09er5 How the hell is it a copy of dragster..? Dragster is nothing like this!

  • I miss this ride soooo much

  • this is by s&s right

    short ride launch looks powerful

    is there any airtime

  • This is just like Stealth at Thorpe Park, the only thing that was different is the turn after the drop

  • @legokinz head to cedar point in the 2011 season, i think this ride is gonna head there, if you have a facebook, become a fan of cedar point, there gonna have a new ride this year and there revealing it on the 24th of august, and there owner cedar fairs just bought kings dominion, the owner of hypersonic, and they still have this ride for sale, i think cedar points getting a new coaster this year, and its this amazing ride!

  • @dill7198 it is not gonna be this it is gonna be a like the eruption at great adventure

  • @dill7198 its a chairswing ride go to cedar points facebook page picture and look into details its not a coaster its a 301 foot chairswing.

The same exact ride is also going to be new at Kings Island And Canada's Wonderland.

  • @dill7198 They didn't "just buy" KD. They bought all the former Paramount Parks back in 2008 which includes King's Island, King's Dominion, Great America (in California) and Canada's Wonderland.

  • I miss this ride.

  • Too bad this is gone, the airtime at the top was epic!

  • You people can't understand unless you ride it. This motherfucker was intense. 0 to 80 mph in 1.8 seconds!!

  • @Damanx1903 rock n rollerocoaster was better =)

  • @Damanx1903 There are several other coasters with this acceleration though: such as Stealth, UK.

  • @Damanx1903 Yeah after a 3 hour wait in line, or so it was at Kings Dominion in Richmond, Va, LoL

  • @Damanx1903 So's Stealth at Thorpe Park!

  • @Damanx1903 who would have ever though this ride would be beat by a ride 458ft tall 128 mph insane

  • @Damanx1903 like stealth..

  • @Damanx1903 80 is nothing though. 120 128, 137, those our the fastest currently. this is powered by compressed air. lot more enviormentaly friendly, but lots of down time. they currently redesigned this technology. the same people who made this coaster hold the speed reccord at 137. but compressed air isn't a consistant technology to power a roller coaster all day long. hydrolics and magnits are, i rather ride storm runner at hershey!

  • this ride stucks

  • Comment removed

  • this thing was always broken.

  • Dude i cant believe they took it away that sucks iwas to short to ride it. oh well intimidator took the place of it

  • i cant ride nothing good

  • @kayleewv why not?

  • as good as stealth, thorpe park?

  • this look like a terrible ride

  • Soooo not worth the hour wait. It was hard to beat the crowd, but there were no-line periods.

  • They take this down but not the shitty ass stand up rollercoaster? WTF!?!

  • @NatePoky yea I don't get that...

  • R.I.P ...I Rode This Ride 13 Times.. That Was A Launch Never To Forget! I Wish They Didnt Take It Down :(

  • @tazzz89 . Also, for your question about flying coasters coaster;A flying roller coaster is a variation of roller coaster meant to simulate the sensations of flight lol. I got all of this information from a ride engineer at KD who happens to be my brother

  • @tazzz89 . As you may know, Hypersonic XLC is a air/pneumatic/ launched coaster and that it was placed as a prototype for S&S for a coaster they had built in Japan. Now, S&S is designing another coaster that will break the 100mph mark which is supposably going to be the "replacement coaster" for KD.

  • they just put up I305.. which in my opinion was a terrible design, lets make a really long hard turn after the drop so people black out... the drop isnt even scary anymore because of the trim brakes, i guess the reason they took this coaster down was for safety...

  • @mortarlover123 lol theres nothing wrong with blacking out idiot, it happens to me alot on milenium xl 200, and also mantis if blacking hurtred u id be ded and im not ded u stuped idkiot

  • @FunAndOnly first off , if you black out on magnum xl 2000 there is something wrong with you, second of all, you shouldn't call people idiots that you don't know, and third of all, you loose a lot of brain cells when you black out, and sometimes you don't wake back up from a blackout, you can go into a coma...

  • @mortarlover123 i said millenium force xl 200, and ur retarded if u black out and go into a coma

  • @FunAndOnly Yeah, douchebag. You don't know the names of the rides. They are Millennium Force and Magnum XL-200. Dumbass dick face.

  • @TeamApparition no shit, i cant believe how serious u take me, i bet u rly think a rattlesnake bit me, and that i got hit by the disaster transport too

  • @FunAndOnly You know what you can take your trolling somewhere else, people like you are so idiotic, this is why some people don't deserve the internet, and learn to spell correctly, where were you taught how to type?

  • @mortarlover123 shut up i dont waste my time typing perfect sentences on youtube shut up ur retarded

  • @FunAndOnly im ending this stupid bicker on youtube, this comment section is for Hypersonic XLC POV not this little debate

  • @mortarlover123 well shut up cause i am continuing it lol u r stuped

  • @mortarlover123 don't worry about him he's a super troll and is a disgrace to humans

  • Haha the funny part is that , the coaster you stated doesn't even exist, and its natural you cant help it.

  • classic late 90's and mid 00's coaster RIP

  • lol next season they are replacing it with another air-launched coaster considering that ride was only up for about 10 years. Then, for the 2012 season they will be adding their first "flying" coaster and of course this season Intimidator 305 exciting next 2 years

  • how do you know about the 2012 season?

  • dude that looks boring

  • @RockGodrg666 Sure the ride was only 16 seconds, but the launch was incredible. 0-80 in less than two seconds. It's a sensation you can't really explain. Too bad it's gone now though.

  • R.I.P

  • I'm actually glad they took this down. It was never very smooth compared to other rides i've been on. Having inflated tires instead of the standard polyurethane wheels was a terrible idea. The major reason is that the tires will never have the exact same air pressure and will create an uneven distribution of the wight of the train. This makes the ride bumpy even if the track is smooth. The only good part of this ride is the intensity of the launch. other than that it was a terrible ride.

  • its so sad, they took this down. no longer at kings dominion ):

  • ive never even ridden it im sad now!@!!!!

  • @SOCAchikk10 That ride was a mechanical NIGHTMARE. Those poor ride ops had to deal with only an 8 person capacity and four hour lines.

  • @SOCAchikk10 i know!!!! i wanted to ride that thing SO FRIGGIN BADD

  • @SOCAchikk10 i know

  • @SOCAchikk10 they r bringing it back

  • @BigRMD313 when r they bringing it back do u know exactly?

  • @stunner4life316 never, it was recycled

  • sooooo soft nothing compared to The Behemoth at

    Canada's Wonderland

  • that is nothing compared to the dragster at cedar point

  • but it is fun and im riding dragster in 4 months for my first time! :P

  • Ok? Nobody mentioned that.

  • actually i have riden both multiple times, though dragster is much larger and reaches a much higher top speed, Hypersonic was much more intense, the layout was smaller so you feel the curves better, the crest of the hill was tiny so you got huge air time. you barely get any airtime on dragster.

  • and the lauch on hypersonic was quicker per length of the lauch track. 0-80 miles per hour in 1.8 seconds to be exact. dragster is 0-120mph in 6.5 seconds. cut the speed to 80 on dragster and that would equal 0-80 in about 4 seconds. hypersonic did that in 1.8 seconds. MUCH more intense, and you will never know how much more intense it was unless u have rode both coasters. just the launch and the airtime over the crest of the hill makes hypersonic the better ride

  • @coasterluv 6.5 seconds LMFAO, it aint even on the cable for 6.5 fucking seconds LOLLLL, its 3.8 seconds. Though hypersonic is alot smoother then TTD because of its Tyres and pressured airbased launch, TTD is still a much better ride as for me i prefer taller, faster and more G's :)

Before you say, Yes i have been on both, still prefer ttd :P

  • @Grantjeffries ttd will always amount this crap!

  • 98,000th viewer!

  • ahh they closed this down? i'm glad i got to ride it. it was awesome :P

  • the station attendants should ask the people to please put their cellphones in their pockets. they can also doublecheck it. it's too bad this closed down.

  • how fats is that again? 80mph?

  • Looked pretty boring.

  • It was actually pretty awesome!

  • thats looks pretty fuckin cool

  • its gone now

  • if u think that is big check out stealth, top thrill dragster and kingda ka

  • wwemania321:

This wasn't designed to be big. It was designed for high acceleration. This has a higher acceleration rate than Stealth, Top Thrill Dragster, and Kingda Ka.

  • haha since cedar fair owns kd maybe they'll replace this with a new top thrill dragster-type ride?

  • After Intimidator, KD probably won't be getting another coaster for a while.

  • haha i didn't mean right way, but it's a possibility we might be getting a new TTD in the future.... I don't know, just making guesses...

  • they are making a coaster that has a 305ft drop, but it isnt the style of top thrill dragster more like millenium force but a steeper drop at 85 degrees.

  • yes i know.. intimidator 305... im not saying right away im saying in the next ten years or so

  • it was all hype.. the ride is only like 10 seconds long and not really that great, bad move on kings dominions part, what a waste of money that was

  • this ride was a piece of shit! im glad they got rid of it. i remember waiting in line for an hour and for what? to get on a ride that is less then 30 seconds. the drop wasn't even that exhilarating! fail!!!

  • Whatever You where just to scared to ride it.

  • nope i wasn't...since i ride pretty much EVERY rollercoaster there!

  • Yeah every ride in the Kidzville area.

  • I agree it sucked donkey nuts. I'm glad this POS is gone...what a waste of time this ride was.

  • thanks. at least someone with common sense agrees with me.

  • And one of the primary reasons for it closing was that morons were taking the ride and leaving their cell phones attached to belt clips instead of leaving them with the station crew or putting them securely in their pockets. The park got sued by attendees frequently as a result because the clips aren't made to hold a cell under the G loads that ride made. A friend of mine nearly had a phone hit her in the face as she walked by, as it flew only a couple of inches from her face before shattering.

  • I agree. People just don't think to secure everything before they get on the ride. I myself was walking by Sheikra at BGA when I heard something shatter. I wlaked over to where the sound originated from which was directly under an inversion element. I found what apperaed to be the shattered remenants of a then brand new Razor phone which cost about $400 at that time.

  • there are tons of rides like this that are still around, i still don't understand why they didn't just build a tunnel or something in the launch? like a glass tunnel so people can still see there friends go on it. anyway. xcelerator at knotts is still around so i don't see why there is a problem with this ride.

  • The issue is that in Virginia, the law states that irregardless of what precautiions an entertainment venue (including theme parks) may take, if an incident occurs which presents a hazard to life or property, said venue may be held civilly liable for damages.

The problem is that people would frequently not secure loose items such as cell phones, and clips for smaller phones aren't designed to withstand the loads placed on a phone by such rides. So phones would shoot out at people walking below.

  • Keep in mind that just because your cell phone may weigh barely anything normally, the loads on acceleration and turning for that ride made them weigh far more (up to 40 lbs), so clips would just give and let them fall out. At which point, it's like putting a stone in a slingshot, and letting the stone fly at full force. KD now though asks that for all their extreme coasters, cell phones be turned in during the ride with an attendant, or else left with someone on the ground who isn't riding.

  • We've always asked people to leave their loose items in the station or with a non-rider, never with an attendant as the employees and the park are not responsible for things left while riding. Seeing videos like this frustrates me immensely, because no matter how hard we as employees try to prevent it, idiots still take their cameras on the rides. I don't want to see anyone hurt, but I always hope their cameras break.

  • Coupled with the maintenance issues (it frequently broke down), it became too costly and risky financially for KD to keep it operating.

  • that sucks. they should have just made a tunnel or something for the launch to keep things like that from flying at people.

  • thanks though.

  • No, this coaster is a compressed air launch, and these type are very difficult and expensive to upkeep, and the capacity of this ride was very low, making it economically terrible.

  • thats not what its all about. what matters is how much fun it is. they could have changed the launch style gave it a paint job and it would be virtually the same. i guess if people didn't want to ride it, that's a different story, but it looks pretty fun to me.

  • Ohhhh YEAH!!!! I rode this beast back in 2001 :) It was over too quickly, but was the biggest rush EVER! I can't believe those bloody wankers scrapped it *cries buckets*

  • Still holds the record for fastest acceleration in any rollercoaster ever. 44 miles per second. Compare that to Kingda Ka which is 36 miles per second. That means it had the meanest but not fastest launch ever.

  • thats dodonapa (i think thats what its called its in japan) 0 to 106 in 1 point 3 seconds that did 0 to 80 in 1 and a half seconds but still second best

  • Comment removed

  • dint u mean feet per second cus miles per second would be very fast

  • Haha, yes, didn't realize that it never actually goes 80 miles in 1.8 seconds but at the speed of 80 miles per hour in 1.8 seconds. So, the actual acceleration is 44 miles per hour in 1 second. Not 44 miles per second.

  • DIMMUSAKURABA:

Actually, Dodonpa at Fugi-Q Highland, which was manufactured by S&S Power (the company that made Hyper Sonic), is the coaster with the highest acceleration rate of any coaster in the world-at 59 mph/sec. Dodonpa goes from 0-107 mph in just 1.8 sec..the same time that it takes for Hyper Sonic to reach only 80 mph. And, no I am not confusing mph with km/h...in case you were wondering.

  • Are you like, a coaster guru or something? I see you everywhere.

  • how tall is dodonpa??

  • @frank12364

    Only about 170 feet.

  • this was my first roller coaster, i was dissapointed when they tore it down.

  • Man that was the Best

  • rip hypersonic. what's even sadder is that i went there months before it closed and i never went on it :(

  • it looked pretty boring...

but so do "Piraten" at Djurs-Sommerland in Denmark, although its hilarious when you ride it ;D ntw: Piraten is announced as the 5th best coaster in the world ;D

  • they took it down becuase too many people were getting hurt, and also it broke down too much

  • dont forget it was really short

  • why did they take this ride down?

  • they took it down cuz

of it broke down a lot and too many coasters

  • your right!

  • my friend blindfolded me and took me to a random ride, i heard prepare to launch and nearly peed my pants

  • cant wait for the new giga!!!!!!!

    RIP hypersonic

  • this video is a fake

  • this is not fake its a real ride at kings domion but.... they took it down during b4 it opened this spring

  • how is itt fake???

  • wtf? How??

  • are you fucking retarded?

  • Cause of the dominator. they can only have so many rollercoasters

  • srsly? cuz some parks have more rollercoasters and this ride wasnt located where the dominator is
