Hey, it's written and originally performed by Ryan Adams, Tyler Hilton etc etc covered it, quite a few artists have covered it.

helpful hint: ignore tab sites and just watch him play it live. there's no "d" chord. learn to pick the right strings too..

Neal Casal often harmonizes with the D chord, it's up to you whether you use it or not when playing with one guitar. I usually play songs different each time, it's boring if you're just going to read off a sheet and copy it note for note which is why I either work songs out by ear or if i'm feeling lazy I use tab as a base. If you just replicate note for note you don't learn anything and your imagination stays static.

i beg to differ. songs like this are often tabbed wrong anyway. i wouldn't say you learn nothing from playing a song correctly, cause in the case of ryan adams' lead guitar on "stars go blue" you can try your hand at basic hammer-ons and pull-offs, and a bit of finger-picking. those techniques should be learned cause it can change the sound dramatically.

If this is your "interpretation" of the song -- fine. But i find it ironic that every cover on youtube plays the same four chords.

Thanks =] ahh, i'm not sure, I change it every time I play the song...all you have to remember is it's in 4/4 time, so play along with a metronome or something to help and find a rhythm you're comfortable with to fill the bar!
